Part 60
Tuesday morning found Sarah swamped with paperwork for the Foundation and Howie’s company Sweet D Inc. As she worked, the phone rang but she ignored it. She was busy reading the requests from the various hospitals around the Orlando and Tampa area.
A minute later, Rachel stuck her head in, "Sarah, phone for you."
"Thanks, Rach," said Sarah without looking up from the papers. "Hello."
"Hey, baby! What ‘cha doin’?"
"Hey, Boo…. Reading some requests for help from different hospitals. What’s up?"
"Just wanted to let you know that I’ve got a date with Vanessa tonight."
"Do me a favor?"
"Anything."
"Try and keep your foot out of your mouth."
Kevin laughed, "I’ll try."
As Sarah talked to Kevin, Howie came in. She gave him a smile and he leaned over to kiss her. He pointed to the phone and Sarah mouthed ‘Kevin’.
Howie went around to her side of the desk and switched it to the speaker so that he could talk to Kevin too. "Leave my secretary alone, man! She’s got work to do!"
Kevin laughed, "Sorry, D! Didn’t mean to disturb her."
Sarah rolled her eyes saying, "God…the boss is here! Guess that means I actually have to do some work."
"Hey…you’re at the center, right?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I’m your boss too so you have a good reason to be on the phone talking to me!"
"Thanks, Kevin. Be nice tonight and DO NOT bring my name up! You know how to make a lady feel special so DO IT!"
"Thanks, Sarah."
Sarah hung up and Howie sat on her desk, taking her hands in his. "Kevin got a date with Vanessa tonight?"
"Yep! What are you doing here?"
"Came by to see if you want to go to lunch with me."
"I can’t. I’m meeting Becca to go look for a dress."
"How long are you gonna be?"
"I have NO idea, D. It depends on how hormonal she gets. God…that’s the one thing about being pregnant I DO NOT miss."
Howie laughed, "Were you bad with Jesse?"
"God, yes! And it was intensified by what was going on in my life. Why don’t I just meet you at the club when we’re done?"
"That’s fine."
Sarah handed Howie the requests, "You need to read these and pass them
on to the others."
"Okay."
Sarah stood and he put his hands on her waist. "Have I told you today how much I love you?"
"Nope."
Howie looked around the office and then grinned, "How about I show you?"
Sarah laughed, "Not today, D!"
"Shit! You’re kidding?"
"D, I should have had it last week. My body is adjusting to not being on Birth Control."
"I know. It’s just been so good lately."
Running her hands through his hair, Sarah leaned to him and whispered, "You know, WE can’t do anything but I can do something for you!"
"Ummm….I like the sound of that. Promise?"
"Cross my heart. Now, be good while I go shopping!"
Howie gave her a kiss, "I’ll walk out with you."
The couple gathered their things and headed out to the parking lot. Before going out the door, Howie pulled on his baseball cap and sunglasses in an effort to disguise himself but there wasn’t much point. Everyone knew he was part owner and that Sarah worked there and a few fans met them. Howie signed the autographs and then headed to the car with Sarah.
