Part 2
Sarah found a job working at a local youth center. She taught swimming lessons in the morning and in the afternoon, she was the activities director which meant she did a little of everything. Not too bad. It would look good on the resume when she applied for a teaching job. It also kept her outside so that she could work on her tan.
It was at the youth center that Sarah got to know about one of the local groups; the Backstreet Boys. She heard the kids talking about them all the time and listening to the music. It was good but not what she had listened to lately. Russell, her ex, had been a country music fan and loved Journey so pop music wasn't something she had listened to. And listen was all she did. She never bought any of the CDs for herself or thought about listening to them at home. She did know the first names of the guys in the group but that was it so when she met Aaron, she didn't make the connection. Aaron was one of the kids in her 'choir' and he was really good.
It was late one Friday afternoon and Aaron was the only one left at the center. Sarah went over to him and asked, "Is your ride coming?"
"I don't know. My bonehead older brother is suppose to pick me up but he's ALWAYS forgetting."
"How about I give you a ride home?"
"You don't mind?"
"Not at all. Let me go change and lock up and I'll take you home."
"Thanks."
Sarah went to her office where she changed in the bathroom; a loose, white sundress with her hair hanging down. She brushed it out and looked in the mirror. Well, she was just taking Aaron home. She didn't have to look THAT good. As she was shutting down the computer, she heard voices out in the gym area. 'Aaron's brother must have shown up finally.'
Aaron knocked on the door. "Sarah, my ride is here. I'll catch you later."
"Okay. See you later."
Aaron ran across the gym to leave with her brother's friend. In his rush, he forgot his hat and as Sarah came out of her office, she spotted it with his basketball. She picked it up and rushed out of the gym to catch Aaron. She spotted him walking with a young man, about her height with long, curly hair. She called out, "Aaron...you forgot your hat and basketball."
Howie and Aaron both turned around and Howie felt like he'd been hit by lightening. There she was, the girl in his dreams. Well, he wasn't exactly sure. He couldn't see her eyes from this distance. He stopped as Aaron went back to get his stuff from her.
"Thanks."
"Is that your brother?"
"No. He's a friend of my brother's. Come meet him."
Aaron grabbed Sarah's hand and drug her to where Howie was standing.
Howie felt himself getting excited. 'Oh shit....it's going to happen. I'm going to embarrass myself.'
Aaron said, "Howie, this is Sarah. She's the director here. Sarah, this is Howie. He's a friend of Nick's."
Howie took her hand in his. "Nice to meet you," he said as he thought 'This is the girl in my dreams...her eyes, her hair, god, she's so soft.'
"Nice to meet you too," she answered shyly. To herself, 'This man is gorgeous. What beautiful brown eyes and such a sweet voice.'
Aaron said, "Let's go, Howie. I want to beat Nick at basketball tonight. Sarah showed me some COOL moves."
Sarah blushed at that and Howie asked, "So, you play basketball?"
"Sorta. I like just about any sport. What about you?'
"Dancing is my favorite recreation."
"I love to dance. Know of any good dance places around here? I'm sort of new in town."
Aaron laughed, "Howie owns a club downtown."
Sarah raised her eyebrows with curiosity. "Really?"
"It's called 'Tabu'. Why don't you come down tonight?"
"I might. I wanted something to do but my roomie is busy."
"I should be there. Come to the side door and give the guy this," said Howie as he handed her a card. "This will get you in without ANY problems."
"Thanks. I just might do that."
