Yes..it's official..there will be another Subspecies. It's set to start filming in late summer..with an early 2000 target release date. As I was about to make this page I noticed Full Moon Pictures updated their page with the news..so instead of hearing my version of it..

HOLLYWOOD, CA - April 30, 1999 - "Yes, there will be a Subspecies 5," came the announcement this week by Full Moon Pictures CEO, Charles Band. Mr. Band made the announcement during a luncheon in honor of the U.S. visit of Dutch actor Anders Hove, who portrays the vampire Radu in the Subspecies series. The luncheon was attended by all Full Moon employees, as well as invited guests, including Subspecies star Denice Duff and director Ted Nicolaou.

For Ted, Denice, and Anders (his name pronounced Ah-nus Hoh-vay), it seemed like old home week, as they reminisced about the shoots in Romania and entertained the crowd with their anecdotes.

Principal photography for the new film is planned for August of this year in Transylvania, Romania. In this outing, the proposed plot will center on the origin of Radu. We will see how he became a vampire. It will allow Anders some screen time without the heavy vampire makeup for the first time in the series.

Mr. Band also added that the tiny Subspecies demons themselves would return more prominently.

Well..there you have it. Now we just sit back..relax..and go nuts waiting for it's release.

As you might have read in the chat that Denice came to, Anders Hove is having some conflict troubles (because of his return to General Hospitol), well now on Denice's page she says filming will start in the fall. Hopefully this is correct.

Also, in an interview with Charles Band from the Summer issue of MK Ultra, Charles says that Ash will have a more prominent role in the new movie. He also talks about having a series of short (around 2 mins each) web movies available before the release of Subspecies 5 to help show where the movie is going (more or else downloadable commercials..but hey..still sounds cool).

According to an email newsletter sent out by Denice Duff on August 17, 1999, production will begin some time in November.

Yet another change..at this moment (it's October 31st right now) the new movie will be filmed in February 2000, with a release date of late 2000.

In Denice's latest email newsletter (11/16/99), she mentioned some stuff about the script. Her character is named Helena and she has a son in the movie (she doesn't say who..Stefan perhaps?). She also says something will happen to Helena that'll make us shudder..hmm. The story is going to span from the 9th Century to the 19th, and Radu will be without his makeup for a good part of the film. "There will be sword fights, horseback riding, and plenty of blood.." And finally, she says filming starts in February, with a taget release date of November 2000.
