This is how we think when we walk away from God. When we get saved we walk in the success and freedom from sin that God gave us. A few years down the road, we get tempted. We may stumble and fall into sin.

After we sin, we think we are unworthy to stand in God’s house. For example, you get sent to Gallup and waste away your paycheck and the following Sunday think, “I can’t raise my hand," or "I can't worship God." Some people actually do this.

Just like the in the story, where this son was embarrassed to carry his dad’s name, when we sin we can come to the point where we’re embarrassed to tell people that we’re Christians so we don’t embarrass his name.

Sometimes we think that we need to punish ourselves by serving in church, just like this man thought he had to become one of his father’s servants. We don’t have to work for our salvation. Our salvation is free and taken care for us.

A few weeks ago, I read to you all the parable of the lost sheep. Remember, I mentioned how the shepherd lost one of his sheep and searched all over for it. The Bible says that Jesus came for the sick, not the healed. If you are in a place in your life where you feel lost and deep in sin, God is waiting and ready for you to return and to restore you.

I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous person who do not need to repent.
