Chapter 3: Today's Theme Is...

Bra stood in the airport terminal, trying to smooth the imaginary wrinkles from her dress. Another wave of nausea came over her. God, she was nervous. It's been six months since she's been home and she hadn't really kept in touch either. That was why she told Pan, and only Pan to pick her up from the airport. That under no uncertain circumstances was anyone to come with her. She couldn't handle too many people at once.

She hugged her luggage closer to her as a sporty air car pulled up in front of her. The door opened and Pan jumped out, grinning from ear to ear.

"Bra!" She shouted happily. "Long time no see! Like my new car?"

Bra smiled at her best friend. It was really good to see a familiar face again. "Nice." She commented, pointing to the shiny red car Pan was proudly standing in front of. "I didn't think Gohan would buy you something like that."

"He didn't." Pan said still grinning. "It was a gift from grandpa Satan for my birthday. Dad was really pissed about it too. Said I should have to work to get a car like he did. But what's the point in working when your family is as rich as mine is?"

Bra nodded her head. Gohan didn't like to acknowledge it but they were loaded. It just came from Videl's side of the family and he and Mr. Satan didn't really get along. She couldn't really imagine working for anything either. Not when her family had so much money they didn't know what to do with.

Pan walked to the back of the car and opened the trunk, then started throwing bag after bag of luggage in from the enormous pile next to her. Bra started getting more nervous as the pile got smaller and smaller until there was only the bag she was holding left. She hadn't noticed yet, she could be a little oblivious at times, but there wouldn't be any way to hide it once the bag was gone. Bra held her breath as the last bag was snatched from her hands. æThis is it . . . ' was her last thought as Pan turned back to her.

Pan had just finished loading the last piece of baggage into the car. There was barely enough room for it, but she somehow made it all fit. She turned to her friend, still grinning like an idiot and almost fainted. There she stood in a soft blue dress looking like she swallowed a beach ball. Her grin faded into open mouth shock as she just stood staring, uncomprehending.

Bra didn't know what to say as Pan slowly rubbed her eyes, as if clearing them would make her obvious pregnancy go away. It didn't work. She already tried it. She had imagined what her reaction would be like when she saw the state she was in. She'd been pretty accurate in her assumption. What she didn't expect was what she did next, which was burst into hysterical laughter.

It was Bra's turn to be confused as Pan almost fell to the ground laughing. æWhat the hell was so funny?' she wondered as she watched Pan. She certainly didn't think it was amusing.

"You . . . you almost . . . almost had me going there . . . for a second." Pan said as she tried to control her giggles. "It looks so real. Where the hell did you get that thing from?" She said pointing to Bra's extended belly.

æGoten . . . ' Bra thought bitterly, but didn't say anything as Pan approached her to touch the æfake' tummy. She laid her hand on her stomach and the baby kicked at the contact. Pan screamed, tripping over herself as she scrambled away, holding her hand as if she burned it.

"What the hell?!" Pan screamed pointing at her as she leaned up against her car, eyes wide as saucers.

Bra smiled faintly and rubbed her stomach, trying to soothe the anxious being within. He could feel her tension and has been restless all day. She looked around at the passers who were now staring at the two of them. She frowned and stalked toward Pan.

"You're making a scene!" She hissed at her. "Lets just go!" With that she got into the car.

Pan stood there for a moment longer, trying to catch her breath. "That's real!" her mind screamed. She heard Bra yell at her to get in the car and cringed. This wasn't good at all. She quickly got into the driver's side, fastened her seat belt, started the car and pulled out into traffic. They drove silently for a few minutes until Bra broke it.

"I don't want to go home just yet." She said softly.

Pan nodded her head in understanding. "I would imagine. They're having a surprise æwelcome home' party for you anyway. Everybody is there. I doubt you want to make a grand entrance in your current state."

It was Bra's turn to cringe. No, that wouldn't be good at all. "Lets go get something to eat." She suggested as her stomach growled. Pan's stomach growled in response and both girls laughed. That was the thing about being sayian, once food was mentioned, it was the only thing on your mind.

"I know this great place. It's out of the way too. We should keep our ki suppressed so no one can come looking for us." Pan said.

"Heh, I've been suppressing mine since I got on the plane." Bra said with a slight giggle.

Pan looked over to her, her face all serious now. "Bra, I don't know if you know, but you're pregnant. How the hell did that happen?"

Bra gave her a weird look then said, "Well Panny, when two people get together . . . " Pan cut her off with a look and Bra sighed. God, how was she supposed to explain this to her? She just as soon explain quantum physics to a five-year-old then tell Pan about the steamy night with her uncle that led to her current predicament.

Pan shook her head suddenly. "No, don't tell me now. I want all the details when we get to the restaurant and I don't want to crash my new car." Pan grinned. "I'm sure it was some hot American guy too. Poor bastard, we're going to have one less continent when Vegeta finds out. What did your foster parents say?" Pan said in a rush of excitement.

Bra's stomach turned at the thought of her father finding out. She must have looked pretty green too, because Pan shot her a concerned look. "Please don't mention my father right now." She said sickly. "Not unless you want half-digested honey-roasted peanuts all over your new upholstery."

"Sorry." Pan said with a disgusted look on her face. "So what did your foster parents say when they found out?" She questioned again.

"Nothing really. They threw me a baby shower. I told them that my parents already knew." Bra answered. "So what has been going on here. I've been kind of out of touch."

"Just the same old thing." Pan said with a shrug of her slim shoulders.

"What happened with Trunks and Maron? I thought it was æfor good' this time." Bra questioned, remembering an e-mail she got from her brother a while back.

Pan snorted. "Those idiots have been on again, off again since you've been gone. They're off right now. Same thing as usual. Maron can't trust Trunks. He canceled a date with her and I guess she went to the club with some friends and saw him dancing with some girl. Trunks swears it was a coincidence. That he had to stay late at a meeting and when he got out he tried to call her but she was gone, so he went out with Goten." She shrugged her shoulders again. "I don't really know, but I guess Maron caused a big scene and Trunks won't talk to her now."

"You sound really broken up about it." Bra said sarcastically.

Pan shot her an evil grin. "Oh, but I am. Can't you tell?" She said with as much sarcasm. "It's not my fault Maron is too sweet and innocent for Trunks. He needs a girl that can control him."

Bra snorted this time. "Someone like you, huh? Pan, I swear, I don't know what you or Maron see in that jerk. And I hardly doubt he wants someone to control him. He wants to be able to be in control. That's the problem."

Pan shrugged her shoulders. "Whatever. I don't really care. He can do whatever he wants with me."

Bra turned green again. "Ok, lets not talk about my brother like that again. I want to be able to eat."

Pan laughed as she pulled into the restaurant. They took the reserved æBriefs' parking spot and went in. Instead of waiting in the short line at the hostess' podium, Bra cut in front of everyone and went straight to the front. The man at the front stuck his nose in the air at the sight of them. Pan hated eating in these five star establishments, but Bra wouldn't have it any other way.

"I'm sorry." The snob said in a snotty voice. "You aren't dressed to eat here. I'm going to have to ask you to leave."

Bra grit her teeth together. "Two for Briefs." She said as calmly as she could.

The man just raised an eyebrow at her. "I don't know what kind of game you are trying to play, young missy, but we don't let you kind in here . . . "

Pan stifled a smile as Bra slammed her hand down on the podium. This was sure to be amusing. Bra was volatile mix of both Bulma and Vegeta's temper. This guy was in for it. The manager heard the commotion and came over to see what the problem was.

"Can I help you?" He asked in an equally snotty voice.

"Yes," Bra said as she dug around in her purse. "This guy is being an asshole and I want him fired." She finished digging in her purse to pull out her id.

The manager took one look at it and turned red. "Miss . . . Miss Briefs! I'm . . . I'm so sorry!" The guy stuttered. "Charles, you're fired. Right this way, Mam."

Pan couldn't hold it in much longer and burst into laughter. Bra shot him a haughty look, flipped her hair over her shoulder and followed the manager to their table. The other man just stood there dumbfounded while the other customers looked on in shock.

They were seated at a table in the back, where only the V.I.P.'s sit. The manager handed them their menus. "I assure you that will never happen again, Miss Briefs." The manager said in a sickly sweet voice, obviously trying to save his ass.

"Well, it better not. Or I can assure you that you'll never have Briefs' business again." Bra said while looking over her menu.

"Yes, of course." The manager said. "I'll send my best server over to assist you." With that he left.

Pan looked at Bra with an amused smile on her face as she calmly read the menu. They locked eyes and started laughing. "Bra, that was kind of cruel." She said between giggles.

"Yeah, well that'll show that guy what kind of people they let in here." Bra said with an evil grin. "I love being the daughter of the most powerful people on Earth."

They curved their laughter as the waitress came to the table. They gave their drink orders and then she left. Pan set her menu down, deciding to just order one of everything, and looked at Bra expectantly. Bra could feel Pan's eyes on her and knew the other girl was waiting for the details of how she got pregnant. She ignored her for a few more minutes, until the waitress came back with their drinks.

"Are you all set to order, or would you like a few more minutes?" The waitress asked in a kind voice.

"Let's start out with two of everything on the appetizer's menu." Bra said without looking at the girl.

"Huh?" The waitress said astounded, then gave a little laugh, thinking she was joking.

Bra narrowed her eyes at her. "Bring them out as they get done. I don't want any cold food." She said, then dismissed her with a wave of her hand.

The waitress blinked a couple of times then took off back to the kitchen to put the order in. Pan growled, annoyed that Bra was purposely ignoring her.

"So Bra," Pan said a little peeved. "Are you going to tell me what happened or what? I know it's got to be an interesting story for you to sleep with someone you don't know. I hope you at least have a picture of him to show me."

Bra sighed, deciding to be straight forward with her friend. She had to tell someone or was going to go insane, might as well be Pan. "I didn't sleep with someone I didn't know." She said then looked down at the black table top.

Pan blinked. "So, it was someone you knew. Who do you know in the states?"

"Not in the states." Bra mumbled, still not meeting Pan's eyes.

"Not in the states!" Pan said. "So that means here. Do I know him?"

"Yeah, you know him pretty well, actually." Bra answered, still staring at the table top as if it was the most interesting thing in the world.

"What! Bra, what the hell are you talking about? Just tell me damnit!" Pan said, starting to get annoyed at her cryptic answers. She angrily took a sip of her pop.

Bra sighed and met Pan's gaze. "It was Goten, Pan. I slept with and am pregnant by Goten. Your uncle." She stated matter-of-fact-ly.

Pan's eyes went wide and she spit her drink out all over the waitress who was bringing the first round of food. The server screamed and almost dropped the tray of food. Bra laughed despite the seriousness of the situation. Pan had pop dripping from her nose and mouth as she stared in stark disbelief at her. The waitress, having managed to regain control, angrily set the food on the table. Still laughing, Bra reached inside of her purse, pulled out a wad of bills and handed them to the now soaking server. The server looked at her for a moment before taking the money, shoving it in her apron and stalking off.

Pan, having regained enough sense to clean herself up, stared at Bra, who was still giggling. "Please tell me your kidding." She said.

"It's about as big of a joke as my stomach was." Bra replied while rubbing her belly.

Pan stared at her some more. æShe isn't joking.' She thought while slowly trying to digest the information. "That's insane, Bra! Wha . . . how . . . when . . . " She said trying to form a complete thought.

Bra looked at her amused. She knew Pan would react this way. The entire situation wasn't really that funny, but she couldn't help but take joy in the shock her friend was showing.

"When?" She asked, picking up on one of her questions. "The night before I left for America. Remember? You were supposed to be there, but you took off to your boyfriend's house. Well, Goten and I had a little ærun in'." She answered, making the quotation signs with her fingers.

"A naked ærun in', obviously." Pan said with a snort while nibbling on an onion ring. "But, how? This doesn't make any sense."

"Well, we were in the kitchen talking and the next thing I knew, I was up against the fridge with your uncle . . . well, you know." Bra answered with a distance look in her eyes, remembering that night.

Pan laughed. "So that was how the fridge got broke! No wonder uncle Goten took the blame. He said he got drunk and fell into it." She laughed some more.

Bra blushed. "Yeah, well, we weren't drunk that time."

Pan choked on her onion ring. The server, who was approaching the table with more food again, took a step back. When she saw that more food wasn't going to end up on her again, she set the food down. Bra looked at her and ordered their meals, which was one of everything.

"What do you mean æthat time'?" Pan asked.

"Well . . . remember that party last year?" Pan nodded her head. "We were pretty drunk and Goten took me home so that Trunks could get laid . . . and . . . well, we did it then. That was my first time."

"Kami, Bra! Why didn't you tell me this before?!" Pan practically yelled.

"I don't know. It was more or less so an accident the first time. And the second time, I was leaving and just wanted to . . . you know. And, well, I didn't think I'd get pregnant! But the baby is Gotens' and I don't know how I'm going to tell him either. How do you think he will react?" Bra said.

Pan just shook her head. This was all craziness. Suddenly a memory popped into her head. Something she was sure she shouldn't have forgotten, but now wished she had of. Bra could almost see the light bulb go off above her friend's head. Then she got a really bad look on her face and she knew that whatever Pan was going to say next, she wasn't going to like one bit.

"Pan what is it?" Bra asked a little nervous.

Pan groaned. This just kept getting worse and worse. How in the hell was she supposed to tell her? Should she just blurt it out and wait for the room to explode or . . . what? Either way the results weren't going to be pretty.

"Bra . . . " She started then stopped, trying to come up with a way to break the news to her. "That surprise party for you, well, it double as an engagement party too. Goten and Paris are getting married." There, she just blurted it out.

Bra sat there for a few moments trying in vain to comprehend what she had just said. "What?" She squeaked out, but didn't hear the answer. How was this possible? How could he be marrying that bitch? What about her? Didn't she mean anything? Was she so easily forgotten? She had thought that last night together had meant something to him too. He had said he loved her. He obviously didn't mean it. And what about the baby? She didn't know she was crying until she felt Pan's arms around her, trying to soothe her.

"Bra, I'm so sorry. He didn't know." Pan said trying in vain to calm her down.

She didn't know what to say. Goten and Paris got back together shortly after Bra left and have been engaged for weeks now. She could just kick Goten for this, but he didn't know. After a few minutes, Bra calmed down enough to talk again.

"Oh God, Pan! What am I suppose to do?" She cried. "I mean, it's not like he made any promises to me and I knew he and Paris were together. It wasn't more than just causal sex, but . . . oh God!" The last part was a lie. It had been more than that, but under the current circumstances she couldn't say anything more.

Pan watched her friend cry. She knew that Bra had some deep feelings for her uncle and with the baby, this had to be killing her. After another long stretch of tears, Bra cried herself out. When she was finished, she said she didn't want to talk about it anymore. Pan obliged her, knowing it was a touchy subject she didn't even want to get into. They ate their meal in relative silence, both trying to come up with something else to talk about.

****************************

Pan pulled up in front of Capsule Corps. It was real late and everyone had already gone home for the night. Pan looked over at Bra, who was sitting quietly, looking kind of ill.

"Are you ok?" She asked.

"I probably shouldn't have eaten so much before coming here. I'm going to throw it all up in a few minutes." Bra answered and leaned her head against the window.

Pan sighed. "So what are you going to tell them?" She asked, worried for her uncle's well being.

"Well, I'm just going to tell them that I met some guy in the states. I can't tell them its Goten's baby. I don't even think I'm going to tell him." Bra said.

Pan frowned. "Bra, you have to tell Goten. He has a right to know. It's his kid you're carrying."

"Yeah, but, I don't want to mess up what he has with Paris. He's obviously happy now. I can't just expect him to drop the one girl he loves to be with me because I'm having his bastard child." Bra replied venomously while frowning too. "Besides, I can't tell daddy that. Then he'll kill Goten and he won't even know why."

"Well, tell Vegeta whatever you want, but Goten has to find out sometime. If you don't tell him, I will." Pan said firmly.

Bra shot Pan a dirty look. "Whatever, Pan. I'll tell him. Not that it'll do any good. Can you tell who is all in the house?" She asked, hoping her father was gone for some reason.

Pan concentrated for a moment. "Everyone is gone except your parents and Trunks seems to be asleep. He probably drank all the liquor by himself and passed out. He's a one man party." She added sarcastically.

Bra nodded her head, mentally preparing herself for the fight of the millennium with her father. This was going to be so bad.

"I'll come by and see you tomorrow, okay? Take care." Pan called after her as Bra got out of the car and started walking up the drive to her house. She watched her for a few moments then took off, not wanting to hear Vegeta's wrath.

Pan drove home quickly. She knew she was in deep shit with her own parents for not showing up to the party and not checking in. Twenty minutes later, she pulled into her drive wondering how Bra was holding up. She could tell her own parents were waiting for her. She got out of the car and went into the house.

Her mother jumped up as soon as she got into the house. "Pan! Where have you been? It's almost midnight and you were supposed to bring Bra to her party and neither of you showed up!" Videl yelled at her.

Pan sighed and looked to her father. She could tell by the calm, stoic look on his face that she was in deep shit. "Bra didn't want to go home. We had some things to discuss." She said with a wave of her hand. "She didn't feel like being around a bunch of people, so we went out."

She started to make her way to the stairs when her father's voice stopped her. "Pan. You should have called. That's what the cell phone is for. That's irresponsible. You had all of us worried and the two of you were going around with your ki's suppressed. What's going on?"

Pan turned to regard her father with an irritated look. "I told you it was Bra's idea. She's got some problems that we had to discuss before she went home." With that she started to make her way up the stairs.

"What could be so important that she would miss her own party?" Gohan questioned.

Pan didn't turn or stop as she made her way up the stairs. "You'll find out soon enough." Was all she said before she went into her room.

Gohan watched her go and shook his head. "I don't know what's wrong with her these days. I'm sure she's out seeing boys." He growled. "I'll break every bone in their body if they dare lay a hand on her."

Videl laughed at her husband. "She is just growing up, Gohan. Remember when we first started dating? I was the same way with my father."

Gohan blushed and pulled her into his chair. He frowned at her. "Forget breaking their bones. I'll kill them." He gave her a wicked smirk. "She's not aloud to have a boyfriend unless he's strong enough to beat me."

Videl laughed and kissed him.

********************************

Bra opened the door to her house slowly. She already knew her parents waited for her in the kitchen. She wondered if there was a way she could get by them and to the stairs without them knowing. There was no such luck as she heard her father yell at her from the kitchen.

"Bra, get in here now." His voice was cold and hard.

He didn't speak to her like this unless he was really mad. æWell,' she thought, æhe's going to explode when he sees me.' She took a deep breath and went into the kitchen. She found her parents sitting at the kitchen table. She watched as her mother's angry face melted into horrified shock. Her father turned to face her with his eyes wide. Nobody said anything for a few, long moments. They just stared at her and she felt like a bug under a microscope. She crossed her arms over her stomach self-consciously and narrowed her eyes at them.

"What are you staring at?" She knew it was a dumb question, but she felt she had to say something.

Bulma was the first to react by standing up abruptly and knocking over her chair. "Bra!" She yelled, horrified. "By Kami, you're pregnant. What the hell have you done to yourself?"

Bra snorted. "I didn't exactly climb on top of myself and get myself pregnant." She said sarcastically.

Her mother's mouth dropped open more than it already was and her father exploded. "How dare you?!" He yelled, knocking over a chair as he stood up. "How dare you dishonor our family like this, you little trollop!"

Bra stood her ground and stared coldly at her enraged father. "I see. It's only ok when you do it." She spat, knowing that would set him off.

Vegeta yelled outraged and burst into SuperSayian. She heard her mother scream as he raised his hand to strike her and Bra closed her eyes, waiting for the blow that never came. She slowly opened her eyes to find her brother standing in front of her, their father's hand grasped firmly in his. She stood for a few terrified seconds, watching her father, waiting to see what would happen next.

Vegeta growled dangerously low in his throat and narrowed his eyes at Trunks. "We're going to spar." He spat out, before dragging Trunks down the hall.

Bra let the breath out she'd been holding and sunk into the nearest chair. The confrontation had been short, but frightening to say the least. That was just about the way she had foresaw it happening. Even with all the preparing for that moment she had done over the last months, she had still been scared shitless. She closed her eyes and laid her head on the table and let the tears come. Her life was in ruins and she was sure Trunks was getting the shit beat out of him right now. She had never seen her father that mad before. She was positive that he would never speak to her again. Daughter or no daughter. What was she going to do with herself?

Bulma watched her daughter cry and felt her heart break. She was too young to be going through this. She went to her and wrapped her arms around her. Bra cried harder at her mother's contact. Bulma stroked Bra's head in an attempt to soothe her.

"Come on, let's get you to bed." She said and lead her to her room.

She lead Bra to her bed and they sat down. "Daddy hates me." Bra sniffed.

"He doesn't hate you. He's just upset. What did you expect? We haven't seen or heard from you in six months, you don't show up to your own party, then you come home pregnant! I can't say that I'm thrilled either." Bulma finished angrily. "How did you manage to get yourself into this mess?" Bra gave her a look and she held up her hand. "And I don't want any smart-ass remark either. I know full and well what it takes to get pregnant. I want to know who the father is."

Bra looked away. She hated lying to her mother. "There was a lay over in L.A. and I met this guy. He worked at the hotel I stayed at. Jon Smith was his name." She lied.

Bulma narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "Jon Smith, huh?" Bra nodded her head. Bulma knew her daughter was leaving something out. She could tell when her children were lying to her, but decided it wasn't very important right at this moment. She shook her head. "Well, there isn't much we can do about it now. I'll go make you some chamomile tea. It'll help you sleep."

Bra watched her mother leave. She didn't believe her. Bulma knew her too well to know she wouldn't do something like that. She jumped as an explosion from outside rattled her windows. Her father was really pissed and Trunks was probably already dead.

********************

Trunks dragged himself into the house. He didn't even last twenty minutes with his father as angry as he was. æSpar was code name for beat the crap out of Trunks', he thought bitterly. He collapsed on the floor in a heap. He was sure if Goku hadn't shown up when he did, he'd be dead right now. He'd have to thank him later. With his father as enraged as he was, he was probably giving Goku a hard time. He heard a gasp from above him and opened his good eye to see the bleary image of his mother.

"Sensu . . . " He breathed out before a fit coughing shook him.

Bulma nodded her head and took off back upstairs to fetch the emergency beans she had. She returned a few minutes later and shoved one into his mouth. Trunks sighed as the bean worked its magic healing powers on him. He sat up and looked at his mother.

"Dad was really pissed. I mean, I haven't seen him that mad since that time I super glued his hands to his crotch when he was asleep. What the hell did Bra do? It had better have been good for me to take a beating like that." He said angrily.

Bulma's eyes went wide. "You mean you didn't see her?" She questioned.

Trunks shook his head. "No. I woke up when I heard you yelling and came down to see what was going on. I heard dad yell and go SuperSayian, and I jumped in the way. What the hell happened to make him so mad at her like that? Where is she?"

Bulma shook her head. "Trunks, I wouldn't bother her right now. She's already been through enough today."

"Like hell!" Trunks said with a growl, jumped up and flew to Bra's room.

In his anger he didn't stop to knock and barged right in. He stopped short when he saw that she was changing. At the angle she was at, he could see what exactly set their father off. Bra tugged the shirt over her head and turned angrily to Trunks.

"What the hell is your problem?! Don't you know how to knock?" She yelled.

Trunks blinked and took in the sight. "Bra. You're pregnant." He said, disbelievingly.

Bra frowned. "Well, thank you for that stunning report, captain obvious." She said sarcastically. "What, is that today's theme or something?"

Trunks frowned. "Dad beat the shit out of me for you, so don't be such a bitch. Look at you! You're about to explode! Why the hell didn't you tell anyone about this months ago?!" He asked.

"Yeah, Trunks. How was I supposed to go about doing that? Call and tell everyone, so daddy can fly over there and go on a killing spree? It's not exactly something you write home about." Bra answered.

Trunks shook his head. "I can't believe this. This is so like you. Why the hell would you go and do something like that?"

"I didn't do it on purpose, jackass. It was an accident, they happen." Bra replied, as if it was no big deal.

"Whatever." Trunks replied with a snort and turned to leave, but Bra stopped him.

"Trunks," She said softly. "Thanks."

Trunks nodded his head and shut the door.
