What is a Super Saiyan?
It is said that the Super Saiyan is cruel and powerful
So powerful, in fact, that there can be no one stronger in the
Universe. The Saiyan's hair turns gold, and the eyes become larger and change color to either green or blue (Toonami doesn't always use the same color sometimes the eyes will be green at one time and blue at another, sometimes both colors at the same time).
Usually the higher the Super Saiyan's power level is, the longer the
hair grows. The exception to this is Super Saiyan level 3 where the hair grows almost to the ground. The highest Super Saiyan power level was level 4; which Goku
and Vegeta reached(Vegeta reached with the help of the brute ray
invented by Bulma).
Qualifications of becoming a Super Saiyan
1. Must be at least partly Saiyan.
2. Must possess at least enough power to potentially surpass the
limits of a common Saiyan.
3. Extreme rage triggers the realization of being a Super Saiyan.
4. After the first transformation into a Super Saiyan, the transformation becomes relatively easier each additional time.
Super Saiyan Level 1
Advantage: Power and speed increase
Disadvantage: none
Goku first reached this level after Frezza killed Krillin and shot Piccolo on Namek. In this form the hair is golden and holds itself in the air (because of the sudden increase in energy). The hair also grows longer and the eyes become blue.
Super Saiyan level 1 Adavanced
Adavantage: Power increase
Disadvantage:Lose in speed (bulging muscles)
Many of the Z Fighters reached this level while fighting Cell
you can tell because their muscles bulged out and became much larger. The Z Fighters tried to refrain from using this form because the loss in speed made it very hard to hit Cell. It was shown when Trunks went into this form and he was stronger than Cell but he was unable to hit him, he could only chase him.
Super Saiyan Level 2
Advantage: Power and speed increase
Disadvantage: none
This level was first reached by Gohan when fighting against Cell in the Cell Games. This happened after Android 16 told Gohan to forget about holding his energy back, and Gohan finally powered up to maximum. This was also triggered because the Cell Jrs. were nearly killing all of his friends and they were helpless.
Super Saiyan Level 3
Advantage: Pwer and speed increase greatly
Disadvantage: Loses power quickly in this level because of the extreme amount of energy it requires to stay in this level
On this level, power and speed increase a lot. But it also allows lose in
power fast. The hair will become gold and almost long enough to touch the ground and the eyelashes
will be gone. For example, when Hirudegarn attacked Earth, Tapion
believed that only playing his flute could control him. But when Vegeta,
Chibi Trunks, Goten, and Gohan were down. Goku turned Super Saiyan Level
3 and kill Hirudegarn with the Dragon Punch.
Super Saiyan level 4
Advantage: Power and speed increase by 10 times
Disadvantage: None
On this level, power and speed increases by 10 times.
This time the hair grows longer but in a different style.
For some reasons, it will grow more hair on the chest and the eyes look evil
like. When going Super Saiyan 4 the hair on their head will remain black while the hair on their body will become red. No matter what even if a Saiyan has had his tail cut off or "permenantly" removed like Goku at level 4 the tail grows back.
