CRANDON LIONS CLUB…WE SERVE

With the beginning of a new year in July and the election of new officers, the Crandon Lions Club would like to recap the activities and contributions made in the year 2000.
June 2000, the club was 43 members strong.  Heather Rogers was the annual Lions Club scholarship recipient.  The Lions helped the Brush Run with the sky boxes, kitchen and handicapped seating.
July 2000, we held the 2nd annual Summerfest and Summerfest Open Bass Classic.  The event was a great fund raising success for the club and all 53 bass caught were returned to Lake Metonga alive!
September 2000, the Lions Club once again helped the Brush Run organization.  A paper drive was completed in October.  Newspapers were collected and dropped off at Lion Gene Glinski’s for processing and bundling before transportation to Lipco, Inc.  Several Lions helped with diabetes screening at a community health fair.  In October, portable phones were also donated to the residents of the Crandon Nursing Home.
November 2000, was a busy month for the Crandon Lions Club.  $2000 was donated to the Crandon Area Rescue Squad.  Donations were also made to NEWCAP for food baskets, as well as the Senior/Youth Center organization.  In November, the Lions also helped sponsor the Spanish Club’s trip to Spain.
December 2000, An elementary school Christmas Party was held in December and food baskets were delivered to needy families in the Crandon community.
February 2001, the Lions Club helped the Brush Run organization once again with the SnoCross event.  Our annual Fishoree was also held at the Crandon Community Building.
March 2001, was another busy month with contributions being made to the Forest County Little League organization and Post Prom committee.
In April 2001, the Lions Club held the 55th Club Anniversary part at Copper Country Restaurant.  Special guests for the event were the District Governor Frank Fevoir and his wife Myrtle.  New members, Sara Helf and Ross Cappel were installed as Lions in April.  The annual Easter Egg hunt was also sponsored by the Lions Club.
June 2001, the Lions once again helped with parking and sky boxes at the Brush Run track and contributions were made to Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
As you can see, the Crandon Lions Club lives by their motto…We Serve!  If interested in becoming a Lion, please contact any Lions Club member or President, Steve Kircher @ 478-1516.

3rd Annual Summerfest Celebration and Summerfest Open Bass Classic

The CRANDON LIONS CLUB hosted the 3rd Annual Summerfest Celebration and Summerfest Open Bass Classic at the Crandon City Beach on beautiful Lake Metonga.  The day’s events began at dawn and 27 boats launched for the day's fishing activity to begin.  Many of the entrants were from the local area or surrounding Northwoods towns.

Throughout the day, thanks to all of our local sponsors, a Dash for Cash was held.  The Toney brothers, sponsored by Pamp’s Outboards in Green Bay were the big money winners in this event.  They also brought in the big bass for the day, 4.71 pounds.  In fact, it was the first fish brought in and proved to be the biggest.  This fish rivaled last year’s big one that weighed in at 4.2 pounds.

After fishing ended at 3:00pm, 64 fish were registered with a total weigh of 173.16 pounds.  First place winners, with a total weight of 19.87 pounds, was the Top Shop Team from Green Bay.  They received a $1000 check and a beautiful trophy.  Second place and $750, went to Green Bay’s Best, with 19.19 pounds.  Mark Soletske, Green Bay’s Best, who helps the tournament officials organize the event, is brother to Keith Soletske, Top Shop.  Sibling rivalry at its best!  In third place for the second year in a row, and $500 richer, was Pamp's Outboards with 18.75 pounds.  Winners of the "Bigmouth Billy Bass" prize for the least amount of weight was Artworks Unlimited with one fish weighing 1.57 pounds.

The Bass Tournament was held in conjunction with Crandon’s Summerfest Celebration.  This year’s attractions included free kids games and pony rides.  “JB” the clown also entertained the younger crowd.  A live band, “Aaron Jay and the Jamberries” rounded out the Summerfest Celebration.

Once again, it was a day of great fishing and family fun in Crandon.  The Lion’s Club would like to thank all of the wonderful Dash for Cash, Paddlewheel, and Tournament  sponsors who make our event possible and especially to everyone who came down to help us celebrate!
