Fusion Rules

Here are the rules for the two types of fusion techniques, and their results.

Fusion Dance

1. The two fighters must be similar in size, build, and power.  If one fighter is stronger the result will not come out correctly, but this problem is easily solved for the Z Fighters.  They have the ability to control their Ki.

2. The dance must be performed flawlessly for a successful fusion.  Any mistake will cause the fusion to become defective.

3. The fusion will only last for 30 minutes.  After 30 minutes the fighters will return to their normal selves and may feel a little week.  The fusion can not be broken before the 30 minutes are over.  When Goku and Vegeta do this while in their Super Saiyan IV state, it only lasts for 20 minutes because Super Saiyan IV Gogeta is so powerful it emits to much energy to stay fused for long.

4. After each fighter is one again, each fighter may be tired or weak.  So the two fighters must have a waiting / resting period of one hour before they can perform the dance again.

Fusion Dance Results

After the first couple of times the dance is done the results are not perfect.  When Goten and Trunks perform this dance before fighting Majin Buu they create a Skinny Gotenks and a Fat Gotenks.  These two imperfect forms are not very good fighters and usually wait the 30 minutes to become two fighters again.  

But when it is done correctly they became Gotenks. He has the mixed voice of both Goten and Trunks, and he thinks he is unstoppable.  And after he gets beat pretty bad, they both try it in the Super Saiyan state without much prevail.

When Goku and Vegeta do the dance they create Gogeta.   And again they create the same imperfections as Goten and Trunks did, but they eventually got it right.  Goku and Vegeta even fought while in the fat and skinny stages of Gogeta.  You can check that out in the Movie Clips section.  Also a Gotenks movie is featured in the clips section.

Potara Fusion

1. A set of Kaioshin's earrings.

2. The two fighters must wear the set of earrings on opposite ears.

3. Each person can only have one Potara Fusion in a lifetime.

4. The effects of the fusion are meant to be permanent.

Potara Fusion Results

The only two that use the earrings are Goku and Vegeta.  Goku truly meant to fuse with Gohan, but right when they were going to do it Gohan was absorbed by Buu.  Then Vegeta had to take his place, eventhough for the most part unwillingly.  They created Vegetto, which is a massive power house only created once, which is one of the rules.  Goku and Vegeta did not stay fused together while inside the body of Buu.
