Tiwa National Revolutionary Front (TNRF), was formed in 1996 in the Nagaon district with the objective of setting up an 'independent Tiwa land' by uniting the Tiwa tribes in the State. The outfit aims to fight against the perceived ‘systematic exploitation and repression of the Tiwa community by the Indian state machinery’. Bhogeswar Bordoloi heads the outfit’s Central Committee. All activities are finalised at the level of the Central Committee.

Still in a nascent stage, primarily due to the lack of cadres, the outfit is reported to be maintaining links with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), the Karbi National Volunteers (KNV) and Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) to carry on it activities. The KNV and the NSCN-IM are reportedly providing training to the TNRF cadres along the Assam-Nagaland border. In the later half of the year 2000, two camps of the outfit were busted in the Morigaon district.

The Nagaon and Morigaon districts of Assam remain the primary areas of operation of the outfit. Regular exercises are undertaken in the area by the senior cadres to induct youth into the outfit. TNRF still does not have sufficient arms to carry on its independent activities. However, its present requirements are reportedly being taken care of by the NSCN-IM.
