The Law And Erin McDuff

I have long had an interest in the law. Ever since I worked on a project in my 8th Grade Social Studies class. The project was that our class had to make up its own government and choose officials to lead. We had to write our own Constitution, and laws, etc. When it came time to choose officials, I recieved the position of Chief Justice Of The Supreme Court. I was a bit surprised because I had been hoping to be the Attorney General, but, hey, I took what I could get.

My real interest at the time had been law enforcement and police work. I was really into the T.V. show "The X-Files" at the time, and I was looking into becoming a cop or an F.B.I. Agent when I grew up. That's why I had been hoping for to be the Attorney General- the head of law enforcement. But I got what got and I decided to make the best of it.

As the Chief Justice, I was assigned several cases to review and rule on. I listened to the mock cases on a tape recorder; looked through the Constitution for relevant case law; wrote up my desicion; and presented my rulings to the Congress.

Why am I talking about this? Well, one of the main reasons I started watching "Law&Order", about a year after I did the project, and in turn got introduced to Sam Waterston was because of my growing interest in criminal law. This mock government got me looking into the laws themselves- not just the enforcement of said laws. I enjoyed looking through the Constitution and researching the evidence to back up my desicions. I found the law to be a very fascinating thing and I still do.

Thanks to that 8th Grade project; "Law&Order"; and, of course, Sam Waterston, I am now considering being a prosecutor when I grow up. The seeing the part of Jack McCoy was a big boost for my need to work in the law. From all I've read and seen, "Law&Order" and Sam Waterston's portrayal of a prosecutor are very accurate, and in turn have been a inspiration to me.

Whatever I do, it will have to have something to do with the law. I want to be able to help people who have suffered an injustice and stop those who profit from these injustices.
