Apple Craft
Have children tear pieces of red paper.
Glue on apple shape. Trace and cut handprint out of green paper for leaf.
Add poem:
This apple that you see here
Was made just for you in my preschool year.
You'll never see another just like it in this
great land,
Because for a leaf I used my own little hand.
Name Recognition
Help your child learn to recognize their name
in print by printing it on a large piece of paper. Do another one
the same size, this time cut out each individual letter. Let the
child spell out their name trying to match the letters in the correct order
with the printed name.
School Bus Wall Decoration
Cut out a large bus shape from posterboard. Let the children fingerpaint
the bus yellow. Once dry, map off bus windows with a black marker and draw
a face for the driver on the bus. Take pictures of each child and glue
them onto a bus windows. Label the board: All Aboard the "Daycare Name"
Express!
Apple Theme Door Decorations
Cover the door with white paper. Then using an apple shaped sponge,
sponge on red, yellow, and green apples. Allow to dry. Make a large posterboard
apple and put on a green worm coming out of the apple. On the Apple write,
"Hi!". On the worm, write, "Wiggly Worm Welcomes You". You could also put
up an apple border around the edge of the door. Use a black marker to write
the children's names on the sponged apples.
Bulletin Board Ideas for Back to
School:
School Bus: Create a large yellow school bus, with the children's
heads (photos, photocopies or drawings) in the windows. The side of the
bus could read "Daycare Name's Magic School Bus".
Busy Bees: Make bees buzzing around a hive. Put each child's name
on the bee and title your bulletin board "WELCOME TO ONE HONEY OF A ROOM"
Everyone's Whale'come: Heading on the board is "Everyone's
Whale'come!" A large picture of a whale with smaller whale's with all the
children's names on them.
We All Fit Together: Heading on the board is "We all fit together".
Using a a large floor puzzle as a pattern (or create your own}, trace each
piece (from heavy cardstock) and put a number in the corner so you know
where it will go! Have each child draw a picture of themselves on their
piece and decorate it any way that they want. Fit all the pieces together
and place on the bulletin board!
Apple Play Dough
Use red, yellow, and green colored play dough, adding cinnamon spice
to it. Lay out apple cookie cutters and tools. Show the children how to
create a play dough ball to resemble an apple. Add a pipecleaner for a
worm!
Shiny Apple Sun Catchers
Draw a large apple onto wax paper with a black marker, cut out.
Let the children use colored glue(red, yellow, green) to paint the
inside of the apple. While still wet, use colored yarn to outline
the shape and then let dry. Once dry, peel the glue apple away, if thick
enough, from the wax paper and hang!
Musical Apple Tambourines
2 Small or large paper plates per child, tempera paint, green leaf,
brown pipe cleaner or twig, apple seeds or dried beans, masking tape,
and stapler.
Have the children paint the plates red, yellow or green. Allow to
dry. They can then make faces on their "apples" with felt markers, felt
pieces, or other items. When done, help them staple the two plates together,
leaving an opening at the top to insert your sound makers (beans or seeds)
then tape on the stem and leaves; staple the opening closed.

Use ruler to mark 1/4" lines with black marker on large rectangle
craft stick. Glue on stars and apple. Cut two small teardrops out of green
craft foam for leaves. Glue in place. Glue pin to back.

Recipes
Here are some recipe ideas for quick and easy back to school lunches:
Pizza Pinwheels
1 (8 ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
24 slices sliced pepperoni sausage
1 (14 ounce) can pizza sauce
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). On a large baking
sheet, pinch the 8 crescent roll dough triangles into 4 rectangles. Layer
each rectangle with 6 pepperonis and even amounts of mozzarella cheese.
Roll tightly lengthwise and slice each into 4 or more pieces. Bake
in the preheated oven 12 minutes. or until golden brown. Serve with pizza
sauce for dipping.
School Bus Snack Cookie
Spread a graham cracker with yellow lemon frosting, then add mini
oreo cookies for wheels. If desired, use dark brown gel to add details.
Worm in an Apple
Red apples, knife/corer, crunchy peanut butter, gummi worms.
Core out the middle of the apple. Let the kids help by spreading
in enough peanut butter to fill apple, then place a gummi worm or two in
the middle of the peanut butter filled apple; place the worm so it is peeking
out of the apple.
