Aviaco MD-88 EC-966 (53307/2015) 'Puerta de Alcola' Del. 08/11/1992
A great look at the reverse thurst "Clamshell" buckets on the Pratt and Whitney JT8D-217C engine utilized on the Aviaco MD-88. Aviaco was the only airline to use this engine type on its MD-88 fleet, all other operators utilized the JT8D-219 engine a more powerful power plant. If you look closely you can also get a good look at the deployed spoiler system on the upper section of the wing. This aircraft was later re-registerd as EC-FOF and is now in service with Iberia Airlines following the merger of the two Spanish carriers in 1999.
