Southwest Airlines 737-300 Photo Gallery

Boeing launched the 737-300 program in March 1981 on the backs of orders from launch customer Southwest Airlines and USAir. The -300 was powered by the then new CFM56 engine which was more powerful and fuel efficient not to mention much quieter than the engines used on the earlier -200 aircraft. The -300 is 10 feet longer than the older -200 and can carry a mixed capacity of 128 passengers up to a maximum of 149 passengers. The -300 first took to the skies on February 24, 1984 and performed up to and beyond Boeings expectations.

Take a close look at this photo, the "1 from the Heart" logo is on the nose instead of on the fuslage where it normally would be found. This logo is not utilized with the new Canyon Blue (Spirit) color scheme. The aircraft is seen preparing to taxi for departure from Dallas (DAL) following pushback. (Michael J. Carter Collection)
