Nintendo's first try at making a console using CD's is a bit dramatic considering the CD's are only 8CM wide!! The console itself is not stepping into the "Multimedia" league with the Playstation 2 or X-Box, as Nintendo want to concentrate on creating great games, thus the GameCube is not seen as a direct rival to the other next-gen consoles.
