The Sega Mega Drive
|
The Sega Mega Drive, also known as the Genesis in America, was one of Sega's greatest success, selling thousands and finally defeating Nintendo in battle. The console itself was 16-bit and created to bring down Nintendo, and it worried them enough into making their 16-bit SNES. The Mega Drive was much faster than the SNES and had over 1200 games over a 9-year life span, most of them classics that retro fans are begging to see as next gen sequels.
The key element that created many Sega fans was of course Sonic The Hedgehog, who after ten years of non-stop gaming, is still going strong! Sonic quickly became Sega's flagship mascot, and was enough to stop Mario's fun and games.
The Mega Drive also had two add ons - the Mega CD that gave the console enhanced sound and FMV plus the 32X that pumped up the graphics into amazing 3D polygons. The Mega Drive had a long happy life which tons of great gaming classics, and was instantly cool. Long live Sega!
