The Louvre
Fountain View

This was a much-awaited visit for me.  How exciting, an enormous museum filled with historical and famous items! No Paris trip would be complete without a trip to the Louvre.
Let's explore, shall we?

Statue Pose

Ah yes, you've got to love Classical sculpture. this is Michaelangelo's "Dying Slave". If only my head had been turned to the opposite side, it would have been perfect!
Me and Mona!

Ah, the Mona Lisa.  It is by far the most famous painting in the world.  It was easy to tell that by the obsessive crowd gathered around her and snapping photographs.  It's touristy art at it's best.  Ok, I am guilty of posing in front of it as well...but there are other things I enjoy just as much that doesn't get very much attention!

Nike Venus

This is the Nike of Samothrace. The Winged Victory!  This was placed in front of a warship facing out over the sea so it has seen some wear and tear over the years!
Me and Venus

The way the drapery falls against the body makes this a masterpiece. Of course I had to pose in front of it.  I refrained from spreading my arms though!

Big Feet!

What big feet you have!  Remember girls, guys with big feet have big...shoes!!!
Jon, Lori, and Mummy!

Jon and I in front of an Egyptian coffin.

Egyptian Scribe

This is an Egyptian scribe found in a Pharoah's tomb.  He was put there to take care of the Pharoah's duties in the afterlife.  After seeing this in slides during class, I thought it was a lot larger than it actually was!

Ingres

A famous painting by Ingres.  I think his backs are magnificent.  Try as I might, I can't stretch mine the same way because I don't have enough vertebrae!
Renoir

A lovely painting by Renoir.  I have this image on the front of one of my journals.  It is very thought provoking!

Me with 2 Claudes!

Here I am caught between two Claudes!  The National Gallery in London has a few of these too!

Marie de Medici

One of the paintings from the Marie de Medici series by Rubens.  A series of 24 large paintings were a form of propoganda.  They  idealize her as a heroine, saying, "Marie de Medici is good for France!"
Very Baroque! This one is my favorite. I also took a picture of the whole room to gather the overall effect.
Irrigation..it's in my book!

Here's a textbook item! It's "King Gudea". The water flowing out of his vessel represents the 4 rivers irrigating the world. Boy is this old!

Ok, like you can really shove a visit to the Louvre onto one page!
The exploration continutes....
