Notre Dame!

The Facade!

If this doesn't require a touristy pose, I don't know what does.  All I can say is wow, this place is amazing!

Notre Dame

The nave!  It is difficult to see the vaulting with this photo so....
Notre Dame Nave

..here I have modified it with lighting to give you a better idea of what it's like!

rose window

One of the rose windows.  I never tire of looking at them!
arch

I took this picture for a good example of a triforium in the middle.  There are three levels here, and not by cooincidence!  Things are normally grouped in 3's or 12's for representing either the trinity or the apostles.

Virgin and Christ

This 14th century statue of the Virgin and Child (Notre Dame de Paris) is nice, and famous!  Well, it's in my textbooks anyway!

The Pieta altar

The high altar with a statue of the Pieta..the Virgin lamenting the dead Christ.  This subject matter is always so passionate!  It's difficult to see here, but on the sides are two kneeling statues of Louis XIII and an angel.  If I can remember, it has something to do with Louis being grateful to the Virgin for giving him an heir and had these sculptures made to keep his promise.
altar

A close-up of the Pieta.  Feeeeel the emotion!  This one is good, but I still like Michaelangelo's version in the Vatican. (but don't tell them that).
trancept

The nave looking toward the entrance.

Big bell!

What a big bell! Of course we had to go up to the bell tower to check out Quasimoto's dwelling..complete with gargoyles and all. The famous gargoyles aren't the originals though, but 18th century recreations. It's still enjoyable all the same.

spire

Me with the spire in the background.
Also notice the gargoyles again!
Notre Dame at night

Notre Dame by night!
Notra Dame in the background

A quick pose with Notre Dame and the Seine in the background.  Yes, we did fit in a few walks along the Seine!

Pouring the wine

Back in our hotel room, we made ourselves a nice spread with yummy baguettes and a bottle of wine.  We had to make some use of our window and try out the timer on this camera!!
Again!

Bon Appetit!
