Starlight Express

On our last weekend Jon and I went out to on one of our first dates (if you will!).  He suprised me by booking a hotel in London and tickets to see Starlight Express.  I had originally wanted to see Phantom the first week I was in London but it just didn't happen.  Jon had told me a bit about Starlight Express and I was curious to see it and experience something new...so Starlight it was!

We got all dressed up and took the tube into town. We got off at Leicester Square. We had dinner at a Pizza Hut that had a nice sit-down area and it filled us up well. As we were right by the National Gallery I insisted we have a quick browse through before they closed. We then headed to Trafalgar Square. Below is a lovely picture of Jon and I in front of the Lion on Nelson's Column.

We were able to roam therough the National Gallery for a bit until it closed at 6pm.  It wasn't nearly enough but that will be taken care of in January when we will return to look at it properly and also see the British Museum!  Lots of good stuff in there...

This is the St. Giles.  Jon booked us a lovely room in this hotel in advance and I had no clue!  It is near Heathrow for quick and easy airport access...and reasonably priced!   We plan to return to this hotel as well.

We then proceeded to walk around to Buckingham Palace to observe and passed some time in the park while waiting for the showtime. Starlight Express is performed at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

The Play is all done on roller skates. It is about trains racing and Rusty, the underdog steam train who feels inferior to the newer, stronger, faster engines that are entered. With the help of Poppa, he needs to find "The Starlight" which is a magical force to drive him to win the race and the admiration of Pearl, an observation car who is trying to fulfill her own dream of being with the right engine. In the end, they all find out that 'There's a Light at the End of the Tunnel'!

Here are Buffey, Pearl, Dinah, and Ashley singing about "A Lotta Locomotion".  That's what we need!

These are the National trains, ready to race!!

Here is my ticket from the show.  It doesn't matter much where you sit because of the big track in front.  Plus, they show the races on big screens so everyone can see them clearly.  I found out that the show will be closing after 17 years.  The last performance is on January 13th or so. (And we'll be in London that day!)  So book now so you don't miss this incredible show!

Jon treated me to a taxi ride since I've never ridden in a London cab before.  We rode around through Trafalgar Square and back to the Picadilly Circus area.

Here is Jon acknowledging where we are! We at at the Burger King right across the street..underneath the big neon McDonald's advertisement!  This is the first spot I ever saw of London so it was strange going back.  Might Iadd, the Statue Eros was boarded up at the time. What a disappointment!

How it should look!

Here's a fun photo of us brushing our teeth back at the hotel.  Another wonderful day down.  Only one day left but there was lots more fun planned for us.

This is only one of the days out of a three-week trip I have to document.  London Eye is next!
