Hitomi

Hitomi Kanzaki, the main character of Escaflowne, is a girl who is different among the rest.  She wishes for true love.  She is aware that Amano is in love with her, but not until the end does she discover that her best friend, Yukari loves Amano.

With this one wish, she travels to the planet Gaea where the Earth and Moon hang in the sky.  Through her adventures with Van Fanel, Allen Shezar, and Millerna, she finds out who her true love is after all.

What is weird is that Allen Shezar and Amano are almost exactly alike (of course it was done purposely for the reason of the show).

Interests:      Fortune Telling, Track (running)
Wish:            To find true love
Best Friend:  Yukari

Her boyish haircut is really simple, but it would become useful because of all the adventures she has.

Hitomi also competes with Millerna, for the love of Allen.  Once Millerna gets married, Allen finds he has no one to confide in.

Dornkirk sees that Hitomi and Van will fall in love, in order to prevent that, Folken (Van's brother) comes up with a plan. Using the fate alteration machine, and one of his cats, he alters fate and he gets Allen and Hitomi to fall in love with each other instead.  Sad story, eh?

Hitomi would never fail to find true love.  Making the assumption that she liked Allen Shezar was a big mistake.  Her gentleness and kindness were always overlooked.  She always believed in others, and she had a true heart.

Anyway, it was Hitomi's wish to find true love was what brought her to Gaea.

Another fact is that if Hitomi was not present in Gaea, the fate alteration machine couldn't work.  So it was necessary for Dornkirk (the bad guy) to make sure Hitomi was alive and staying Gaea.

At one point, Hitomi does go back to Earth and she finds it boring; she wants to go back to Gaea where all the adventure was.  She returned back to Earth because Allen had asked Hitomi to marry him, and she couldn't stand Allen and Van arguing all the time.

Van Fanel misses Hitomi so much, and he discovers that he loves her once she is gone.  With his wish, he flies Escaflowne to Earth (a.k.a. the Mystic Moon) and she returns with Van back to Gaea.
