Chapter Sixteen

On Christmas Eve …

"Glyn! Where are you going?!" Marian yelled through the door Glyn had left open a few seconds ago.

"I'm going to see CHESTER!" Glyn replied. "And Jason!"

"You'd better keep your shoes on!" Marian commanded as she followed her outside.

"I might."

INSIDE (when Glyn and Marian are visiting the snow-people)

"What the hell is all this?" AJ asked in the direction of a few pitchers and a bowl of hot chocolate sitting on a counter in the kitchen. "And that?!" There was a bowl of what looked like melting dirty snow.

"Um. Food?" Brian didn't know. He remembered that Glyn and Marian had decided to make ice cream earlier that day. "And hot chocolate, I guess. They made all five boxes of it."

"Why??? And where did they go?"

"Outside. Glyn went to go visit Chester and Marian followed her to supervise," Brian replied.

"Supervise," AJ echoed amusedly. "Do they really think we're going to drink all that chocolate crap?"

"I dunno. Maybe…" Brian was tired of hot chocolate. AJ had an evil look on his face. He started laughing. "What???"

"Did you bring the…."

"NO! You brought that stuff! Not me!" Brian didn't think spiking hot chocolate was a good idea. AJ ran out to the Pathfinder. He got some bottles out of one of his suitcases and ran back inside, carrying them triumphantly.

"AJ.. maybe you shouldn't.." Brian started.

"Dude, this is going to be great!" AJ grinned evilly and emptied a bottle into one of the pitchers.

"But, Glyn isn't…. of age." Brian said stupidly.

"So?" AJ finished spiking the hot chocolate and went to take the bottles back out to the car.

"Hey, look, it's God! I wonder what God is doing out here in the dark in the snow." Glyn watched AJ in the dim light. What was he holding? It sounded like glass.

"Probably getting crap out of the car." Marian said patiently. "Let's go inside! It's really cold out here and I don't have a coat."

"I'm not wearing shoes!" Glyn said cheerily. "I left them with Jason." Marian sighed. "Hey GOD! What are you doing?!" AJ zipped the suitcase and shut the car door.

"How's Chester, Glyn?" AJ called.

"He's great! We had a nice talk about Jason and Cara! They are so cute together!" Glyn had created a girlfriend for Jason by the name of Cara.

"Well that's… nice." AJ followed Marian and Glyn inside. Brian was sitting on the couch looking neervous.

"Marian! AJ-" he was going to tell them about the Vodka in the hot chocolate.

"I broke a plate, sorry." AJ said sheepishly. Brian glared at him.

"Oh, it's okay." Marian was slightly confused. Was something going on here she and Glyn didn't know about?

"I want hot chocolate," Glyn mused, walking into the kitchen. "I wonder if it's still warm…." Marian sat in front of the fire and looked suspiciously at Brian. "Does anyone else want hot chocolate?"

"Um….. Me, I guess," Marian said.

"God? Petrie?"

"NO," Brian replied a little too fast.

"God wants hot chocolate!" AJ said happily.

Later that night

The phone rang.

"Haha. The phone's ringing." Marian looked euphorically at the phone as it screamed.

"I'll get it!" Glyn volunteered happily.

"No! I'll get it!" AJ leapt for the phone. It was on the other side of the room.

"NO! I wanna get the phone!" Glyn grabbed AJ's hair.

"Let go of my hair!!!!!!!" AJ whined. Glyn reached for the phone with her free hand and accidentally knocked it off the hook.

"Damnit…." She looked at the phone and laughed.

"Hey…. The phone fell!" AJ realized. Brian got up off the same couch he'd been sitting on all night and took the phone.

"Hello?"

"What is going on?!"

"Um. … What?"

"Who are you?" Marian's mother demanded unhappily.

"Um… My name's Brian," he answered, feeling stupid.

"Where's my daughter?!"

"What?"

"Marian? She told me that-"

"Oh. She's here…" Marian was looking at the floor interestedly.

"Why are you there and why did you answer the phone??" she asked nervously.

"I… My friend and I were visiting, sort of…."

"Marian didn't tell me she was inviting any friends-"

"We … weren't really invited."

"Maybe you should just let me talk to Marian, Brian," Mrs. Arden suggested angrily.

"Uhm… Are you sure?" Brian wondered if Marian's mom would like talking to her right now.

"Now!"

"Hold on a minute… Um… Marian?" Brian shook her shoulder gently.

"Hello dear. What can I help you with today?" Marian looked up at him and laughed giddily.

"Ssssh! Your mom's on the phone. I knew this was bad idea," he muttered to himself. Marian took the phone.

"Hi Mummy. What's up?" she asked cheerfully.

"MARI! Who's on the phone?" Glyn asked.

"It's my mom!!!! Isn't that COOL??" Marian yelled back.

"Awesome! Can I talk to her?" Without waiting for an answer, Glyn snatched the phone.

"Marian!! What's going on?! Are you drunk?" Mrs. Arden asked cluelessly.

"Hi Alicia!! What's up?!" Glyn chirped, oblivious to her question.

"Glyn? You're Glyn right?"

"I'm Glyn, I think…" Glyn laughed. "AJ, I'm Glyn, right?"

"Put Marian back on the phone!" she commanded.

"Okay, fine. MARIAN! Your mom wants to talk to you!" Glyn threw the phone across the room. Brian caught it and handed it to Marian.

"Hi Mommy," Marian mumbled, distracted by the light from the fireplace dancing on the carpet.

"Marian? Please tell me what's going on."

"Okay Mommy." Marian smiled at the fire. "We got here a couple days ago. We were driving Owen's Vanagon and on the way here Glynnie saw this black car following us. When we were almost here our car stopped moving and then it started smoking so we got out and we saw the black car!! Then we ran into the woods. It was really dark and we couldn't see anything and then Glyn ran into a creek and then we found out it was Brian and AJ in the black car and they were coming to visit us because Ash told them we were going to Vermont and and and … I dunno!" She laughed softly. "We've been here for a while. We made hot chocolate!!! It's good!" Brian grimaced.

"Hot chocolate," her mom echoed dryly. Marian nodded happily. "Marian, where did you meet those guys?"

"Um. Well! Glyn met AJ first. She was taking pictures of him in a park and his bodyguard Barny got mad at her and she ran away from him and AJ broke her camera. But he got her phone number!!! But .. um… Once Glyn went to AJ's apartment building and set off an alarm and they put her in jail. I met Brian when he was still engaged to this girl Audrey that looked like a dog. Kind of like a rat."

"A dog? Engaged? Glyn went to jail?"

"Yeah, Glynnie went to jail! Isn't that funny??? Audrey doesn't really look like a dog. She's really pretty, Mommy. Brian's not engaged to her anymore!"

"Um.. .Marian?"

"What Mum?"

"Can I call you tomorrow?"

"Sure Mom!! Why?"

"Go get some sleep, honey. I"ll talk to you later, okay?"

"Bye Mum!" Marian hung up and tossed the phone into the air. It fell on AJ's head.

"Damnit!" He yelled and rubbed his head. Glyn started walking towards the door. "Glyn where are you going?"

"To see Chester. He's lonely." She replied patiently.

"Stay in here!" AJ commanded.

"Don't go outside!" Marian whined.

"But.. Chester…" Glyn looked sad.

"You can see Chester later. He told me he was going out with a snow girl tonight." AJ said knowingly.

"No!! Chester would never cheat on me!" Glyn exclaimed indignantly.

"Yes he would." Marian giggled. "He's married, stupid."

"Not THAT Chester." Glyn sighed and sat on the floor. AJ downed another mug of hot chocolate in a few seconds and fell over. "AJ passed out! That's weird."

"Hmm.." Marian looked thoughtfully at him. "Maybe he is exceedingly inebriated."

"AJ is exceedingly inebriated!" Glyn yelled. "So is Marian."

"I am not!" Marian threw a couch cushion at her. It missed. "But you are."

"No I'm not! I don't drink." Glyn said proudly. "I feel sick."

"Maybe you two should go to sleep." Brian suggested carefully. "No more hot chocolate."

"Brian! You're still here?" Glyn looked puzzled.

"No he isn't, stupid. You're hallucinating again." Marian scowled. Brian had left a little while ago, hadn't he? Hmm..

"I am not!!" Glyn protested. "He's right over there." She pointed in his general direction.

"I'm still here." Brian said. "AJ put Vodka in your hot chocolate."

"He wouldn't do something like that" Glyn contradicted. "Brian where is AJ?"

"He's on the floor. Over there." Brian shook his head and pointed at AJ's inert form.

"Oh, okay."

"Brian I'm tired." Marian said sadly. "Hey look! It's a damn mouse!" she started giggling and then fell heavily to the floor.

"Marian? Are you okay?" Brian went over to her and helped her up.

"Yeah…." Brian helped Marian into one of the bedrooms and left her on the bed. When he went back into the living room, Glyn was sitting on the floor poking AJ's head.

"Wake up, God!"

"He's asleep, Glyn." Brian said intelligently. "Leave him alone."

"Hi Petrie! Where did you come from?" Glyn looked at him, surprised.

"Um, never mind." Brian sat on a couch. "Aren't you tired?"

"No, not really." Glyn shook her head rather violently, then stopped. She didn't like the way the room spun like that.. ughh. She stood up unsteadily and stumbled into the bathroom.

"Where'd Glyn go?" AJ wondered.

"She's.. in the bathroom." Brian replied.

"Oh." AJ got up and went to the couch that Brian wasn't on, going back to sleep. Brian fell asleep in a few minutes.
