4th album and world tour
After a whirlwind year that saw Destiny's Child headlining the "TRL" tour and selling more than 3.4 million copies of Survivor, Beyoncé Knowles, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland are showing no sign of slowing down in 2002.

In the works: a springtime world tour with Knowles' singing sister, Solange, after which they'll begin work on their fourth studio album, according to a Columbia Records spokesperson. A start date for the trek hasn't been set, and no additional details on the album were available at press time.

In the meantime, the ladies continue to work on solo albums (see "Independent Women of Destiny's Child Coordinate Solo Projects"), and Knowles is busy shooting her role of Foxy Cleopatra in the flick "Austin Powers in Goldmember," due July 26. She also recorded a song, "Hey, Goldmember," which samples K.C. and the Sunshine Band's disco smash "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty," for the film's soundtrack (see "Beyonce Records Song Written By Mike Myers For 'Powers' Flick").

In the new year, the trio will vie for Favorite Album and Favorite Band, Duo or Group at the American Music Awards on January 9 (see "Alicia Keys Leads List Of American Music Awards Nominees") as well as Outstanding Duo or Group at the NAACP Image Awards on February 23 (see "Alicia Keys Up For Seven NAACP Image Awards").

Destiny's Child split up
Destiny's Child say they are still, "very much a group", despite rumours they are to spilt next year.

Last week, the group announced plans for a temporary break at the end of 2002. Though the pursuit of solo projects was cited as the reason, many suspected the break could signal the end of the chart-topping trio.

However, a statement issued by the band, claims that Destiny's Child remain, "very much together", and plan to remain that way for many years to come.

"We just want to take a little time to work on some things that reflect our individual personalities and we're going to help and support each other with everything we do."

It continued: "We've worked really hard to get to where we are and have been blessed with success and the incredible support of our fans."

"We're like sisters, we really love and understand each other and have such a great time that we can't even think about breaking up Destiny's Child."

As reported previously on dotmusic, group members, Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams are each planning to release solo albums in the future.

Michelle will be releasing a gospel album early in the New Year whilst Kelly plans to release her 'alternate R&B' album by early 2003.

Beyonce is to star as Foxy Cleopatra in the forthcoming Austin Powers movie, 'Goldmember' and is likely to complete filming before work begins on her solo album - due for release in Autumn 2002.

Destiny's Child split up
Destiny's Child are to split temporarily, according to reports.

Speaking on US television, singer Beyonce Knowles said: "Destiny's Child put out four albums in four years, which is unbelievable. That doesn't happen a lot."

She told E News Daily: "We've been working, Kelly and I, since we were nine, non-stop. So I think Destiny's Child is gonna take a little break."

Michelle will be releasing a gospel album early in the New Year whilst Kelly plans to release her 'alternate R&B' album by early 2003.

Beyonce is rumoured to have accepted a starring role in the forthcoming Austin Powers movie, 'Goldmember' and is likely to complete filming before work begins on her solo album - due for release in Autumn 2002.

Manager Mathew Knowles said the trio would not compete with one another, claiming that the timing of various projects would be crucial: "I wouldn't want any of my artists to directly compete with each other. They're so multitalented that while one's working TV, the other can be working a record."

It's not yet known when the group will split, though they are still committed to their European tour in May.

Beyoncé in Austin Powers
Destiny's Child singer Beyonce Knowles has sampled K.C. and the Sunshine Band's classic 1976 disco hit '(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty' for the next Austin Powers movie, 'Austin Powers In Goldmember'

The singer who has said Destiny's Child will be put on hold for a while plays the leading lady in the upcoming film, Foxy Cleopatra. Foxy is Austin Powers' (Mike Myers) sidekick in the movie.

Beyonce said, It's not a serious song it's really funny and crazy. The singer's two sisters, Solange and Devon also appear in the film and sing backing vocals on 'Hey Goldmember', taken from the film's soundtrack.

Beyonce also revealed that Britney Spears makes a cameo appearance in the movie, commenting, Her part is hilarious.

However, the group, who pulled the European leg of their tour last month, have now cancelled their remaining appearance on the continent.

The awards are presented by Ali G and are to be broadcast live on MTV.

New York Concert CD available
Performances from Saturday's Concert for New York, which featured Paul McCartney, Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys and the Who, will be released as a two-CD set on November 27.

The track list for The Concert for New York City has yet to be determined, according to a spokesperson for Columbia Records. Proceeds will benefit the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which will use the proceeds to help lower-income New Yorkers affected by the terrorist attacks as well as the families of firefighters, police officers and rescue workers who were injured or killed.

The concert, which lasted nearly six hours and was broadcast live on VH1, has raised more than $30 million in ticket sales and donations so far, according to a spokesperson for the channel.

Highlights of the show included the Who's hard-rocking set, new songs from McCartney and a gentle cover of Paul Simon's "America" by David Bowie (see "McCartney, Jagger, Bowie, The Who Come To NY's Aid").

New York Concert
Superstars from David Bowie to Paul McCartney to Jagger and Richards rained classic rock on thousands of firefighters, police officers and rescue workers Saturday night in a concert that raised millions of dollars for September 11 relief efforts.

While last month's relatively somber "America: A Tribute to Heroes" echoed the shock of a nation in mourning (see "Mariah Carey, Springsteen, Other Stars Sing For America On Telethon"), the Concert for New York reflected the resolve of a country set on celebrating the heroism of its people and commitment to freedom. The live VH1 broadcast of the show, at Madison Square Garden, featured a telephone number and Web site ( www.helping.org) for music fans to donate money, and Cablevision president and chief executive James Dolan told Reuters that ticket sales had already raised $14 million.

The show began quietly, with Bowie sitting solo at a keyboard, playing a calliope-like accompaniment as he sang Simon and Garfunkel's "America." When he launched into a soaring, full-band version of "Heroes" — backed, as others would be, by Paul Shaffer and others from the "Late Show With David Letterman" house band — the cops and firefighters began dancing in the aisles, and they rarely let up through the nearly six-hour show.

After an introductory monologue by Billy Crystal, who managed to draw laughs from such unfunny subjects as Osama Bin Laden and anthrax, Bon Jovi got fists pumping with mostly acoustic versions of "Livin' on a Prayer" and a rocking "It's My Life," while Goo Goo Dolls turned "Iris" — with its repeated line "I just want you to know who I am" — into an insistent demand to recognize the men and women lost on September 11.

On the Garden floor, rescue workers and their families held up pictures of the fallen comrades, some along with signs expressing such poignant sentiments as "My dad is your hero." Tears were few, though they did fall during James Taylor's "Fire and Rain" and during Elton John and Billy Joel's version of John's "Your Song."

Joel, a lifelong New Yorker, drew deafening cheers with both the eerily apropos "Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway)" — a rocking, apocalyptic account of watching "the Empire State laid low" — and his more loving ode to the Big Apple, "New York State of Mind."

While Saturday's lineup was loaded with classic rockers, a few younger voices turned up, too, including Jay-Z, Destiny's Child and Backstreet Boys.

Jay-Z performed "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" early in the show, the tune's "not guilty" line ringing out ironically less than a week after the rapper pleaded guilty to a stabbing charge in New York. Destiny's Child, on the other hand, went for a healing vibe with "Emotion" and a gospel medley, while Backstreet Boys did an a cappella medley of hits including "I Want It That Way" before Brian Littrell donned an NYPD hat for "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)."

Melissa Etheridge got some help from the audience when her microphone went out during "Come to My Window" and then delivered an acoustic version of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run."

The night's most intense music, and most raucous applause, came while the Who were onstage. The British Invasion band started out sounding rusty and slightly out of sync on "Who Are You," and singer Roger Daltrey would struggle with his voice throughout a four-song set. But the band rocked through the Who's Next classics "Baba O'Riley" and "Behind Blue Eyes," and guitarist Pete Townshend windmilled and delivered a blistering solo during "Won't Get Fooled Again" in front of a panoramic view of the pre-September 11 New York skyline.

Comedians kept the spirit celebratory between musicians. Will Ferrell delivered his dead-on impression of President Bush — mock-quoting Jay-Z by saying the U.S. would "beat the shiz-nit out of the Tiz-aliban" — and Adam Sandler dug out his "Operaman" character for off-color jibes at Bin Laden.

In one of the night's few surprise appearances, Keith Richards joined his Rolling Stones partner Mick Jagger for "Salt of the Earth," a fitting tribute to working-class heroes, and "Miss You," which found the lead Stone prancing about the stage while his guitarist mugged behind the mic.

The evening wasn't without its awkward moments. The support for unity across party lines that the crowd showed Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle didn't extend to New York Senator Hillary Clinton, who was loudly booed when she came to the microphone. And Richard Gere's calls for compassion and understanding rather than violence and revenge drew jeers, which the actor laughed off, perhaps reflecting his non-confrontational Buddhist beliefs.

John Mellencamp fared better when he and India.Arie envisioned a "Peaceful World," and the heartland rocker got the crowd singing along to "Pink Houses'" chorus of "Ain't that America/ Home of the free." Things quieted down for John's new single, "I Want Love," and Five for Fighting's "Superman" before McCartney revved things up again with a rollicking version of the Beatles' "I'm Down."

McCartney quickly quieted things down with two new songs from his upcoming album, Driving Rain, including the ballad "From a Lover to a Friend," a single that is raising money for the families of firefighters killed at the World Trade Center (see "Paul McCartney To Donate Single Proceeds"). A version of "Yesterday," begun a cappella and then joined by a string quartet, showed that the 59-year-old still can command an arena full of people with little more than his voice.

Macca ended the evening joined onstage by many of the evening's performers for the Beatles' "Let It Be" and, finally, "Freedom," a new song he said he wrote the day after the attacks. Much of the audience sang along to the tune's sing-songy chorus — "I'm talkin' about freedom/ I will fight for my right to live in freedom" — providing a fitting end to an evening that celebrated the best America has to offer.

Destiny's Child cancel European tour
Destiny's Child has postponed its European tour until May of next year, citing the current international situation and the U.S. Department Of State's Worldwide Caution travel advisory. The European tour was originally set to kick off October 24 after several tour dates in Australia.

"We're always excited when we perform for our fans in Europe and the U.K. Postponing these shows was the hardest thing for us, because we truly enjoy the fans," said singer Beyonce Knowles in a statement, adding, "We made that decision the very last second after taking a hard look at the state of the world right now. We look forward to rescheduling the original shows, adding additional shows, and we pray for a quick end to the fighting and a return to peaceful times."

In related news, Destiny's Child was recently added to the lineup of United We Stand What More Can I Give? benefit concert for Washington D.C. and America, set for October 21 at Washington's RFK Stadium.

Destiny's Child going solo...
To ensure they don't rival each other on the charts, the ladies of Destiny's Child will stagger their solo albums over the next year and a half and pursue film and television projects in their respective musical downtimes.

First up with a solo disc will be Michelle Williams, who is planning a gospel album for early next year, according to Mathew Knowles, DC's manager and the father of singer Beyoncé Knowles. The record will include Williams' duet with veteran gospel singer Shirley Caesar on "Steal Away to Jesus" — a ballad that will first appear on Caesar's album Hymns, due October 30. Williams plans to record the remainder of her album before year's end and will mark her arrival in the gospel world at January's Stellar Gospel Music Awards. Destiny's Child's "Gospel Medley" and "Outro (DC-3) Thank You," which originally appeared on Survivor, will serve as bonus tracks on Williams' disc.

Beyoncé is expected to announce next week that she has accepted a supporting actress role in a major movie, her father said. After completing that project, she will turn her attention toward a solo album, due next fall.

Kelly Rowland's solo debut will be the last to drop, surfacing in early 2003 and sporting an "alternative R&B" style, Knowles said. Kelly's plans in the meantime include making appearances on television, beginning with a guest-star role on an episode of the Nickelodeon sitcom "Taina." The episode will be shot in early December.

"I wouldn't want any of my artists to directly compete with each other," Knowles said. "They're so multitalented that while one's working TV, the other can be working a record."

Between all the solo projects, the ladies will still find plenty of time to be a trio. Destiny's Child are planning to headline a tour kicking off in March or April that will also feature Beyoncé's younger sister, Solange, and other artists managed by Knowles. The trek will concentrate on cities that Destiny's Child didn't already visit on MTV's recent "TRL" tour.

Solange is scheduled to release her debut, Solo Star, in February. Solo Star's title track appeared on this summer's "Osmosis Jones" soundtrack (see "Kid Rock, St. Lunatics, Uncle Kracker Do 'Osmosis Jones'").

The album will also include a duet with Beyoncé and a guest appearance from Destiny's Child. Solange and DC already collaborated on the theme song to the Disney Channel's animated series "The Proud Family."

October 15
Australia tour postponed
Destiny's Child have cancelled their forthcoming tour of Australia following the September 11 terror attacks in America.

Sony Music say that the decision was made after consultation with the US government:

"In light of the current international situation and in compliance with instruction from the US Department of State, Destiny's Child have postponed the group's concert dates in Australia."

It is thought that scheduled dates in UK and Ireland will still go ahead.

Band member Beyonce Knowles explained that making the decision to cancel was a hard thing to do:

"We made that decision the very last second after taking a hard look at the state of the world right now. We look forward to re-scheduling the shows and we pray for a quick end to the fighting and a return to peaceful times."

The band hope to reschedule the tour for April/May 2002.

New album information
Just as they've cut loose group members in the past, Destiny's Child have now let a few days of Christmas go. The "Bootylicous" trio have finished recording 8 Days of Christmas, whose title track pairs the "12 Days of Christmas" melody with new and abbreviated lyrics written by singer Beyoncé Knowles. The LP hits stores October 23. "There hasn't been a Christmas album like this — it's kind of like a 2000 version of Motown Christmas," Beyoncé said recently, referring to the 1973 compilation that included the Jackson Five and Stevie Wonder. "There's nothing traditional about the album, even with the traditional songs. We totally remade them, and we have some really different harmonies and arrangements." While a track listing has not been finalized, 8 Days of Christmas is expected to feature updated versions of "White Christmas," "This Christmas" and "O Holy Night," the latter sung by Michelle Williams (see "Destiny's Child Dreaming Of A Bootylicious Christmas"). The Beyoncé-penned "Winter's Paradise" is among four originals slated for the album. "Usually when you hear the Christmas songs, they're kind of corny," Beyoncé said. "But you could hear this album all year round." "And Beyoncé put the stank on it to make it a unique Christmas album," Kelly Rowland added. The effort, which marks Destiny's Child's first holiday album, will include solo cuts from each bandmember plus a duet by Beyoncé and her younger sister, Solange Knowles. The threesome recorded in Japan, Houston and New York. A line of Destiny's Child dolls will also hit shelves in time for the holiday season. Another R&B girl group, En Vogue, plans to spread its own holiday cheer with an LP of original and traditional songs. The trio is eyeing a November release, according to their management company.

Latin Grammy Awards performance
Christina Aguilera will co-host the second annual Latin Grammy Awards next week, and Marc Anthony and Destiny's Child have signed on as performers.
"Bootylicious" trio Destiny's Child will join previously announced performer Alejandro Sanz on one of the Spanish singer's tunes.
Just three weeks before show time, the Recording Academy moved the ceremony from Miami to Los Angeles, citing concerns that anti-Castro protesters would disrupt the show. More than 100 Cuban-exile groups planned to protest the ceremony's inclusion of artists from the communist country (see "Latin Grammys Relocated To Avoid Miami Protests"). The show will be held at the Forum in Inglewood, California, on September 11 and will be broadcast on CBS from 9-11 p.m. (ET/PT).
Gloria Estefan, last year's co-host and big winner, has said she is upset by the move and will not attend the event. Other previously announced stars scheduled to appear include Nelly Furtado, Jennifer Lopez, Luis Miguel, Juanes, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jon Secada, Thalía, and Alejandro and Vicente Fernandez. Additional performers and presenters will be announced.

September 6
Charity CD
'NSYNC, Britney Spears, Destiny's Child and Ja Rule are amongst the all-star cast due to record a new charity record this week. Like USA for Africa and Band Aid before it, this latest offering will combine the talents of some of today's biggest stars, this time to benefit AIDS research.
The project, dubbed Artists Against AIDS Worldwide has been organised by U2's Bono and hip-hop producer, Jermaine Dupri. Proceeds from the single, a remake of classic Marvin Gaye track 'What's Going On', will go towards AIDS research in Africa. Christina Aguilera, Wyclef Jean and Backstreet Boys will also be taking part in the project.
Recording is expected to take place this week as hundreds of artists descend upon New York for the MTV Video Music Awards and Michael Jacksons 30th Anniversary concert. Though the details are still to be finalized, a video for the song is also planned.
Dupri told MTV News that Jennifer Lopez, Radiohead and Usher may also contribute to the record.

Congratulations to Destiny's Child for winning an award at the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards for Best R&B/Soul Single, Group, Band or Duo: "Survivor." Destiny's Child sang "Emotions" on stage in dedication to Aaliyah, and Kelly said, "This song is dedicated to a very special friend of ours that we lost, Aaliyah," Backstage, Beyoncé appeared to be on the verge of breaking down in tears as she spoke about her late friend. "She was so sweet, always," she said, while gripping Kelly's hand. "She was one of the most beautiful people on the inside as well as out. It's tragic. Every night we pray for her family and everyone else's family." To read more about the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, click here.

Bootylicious Dolls!
Speaking of plastic figures ... The young members of Destiny's Child are planning to release dolls created in their own images this holiday shopping season. According to the Scottish Daily Record, the glam dolls will be accessorized to the high-tech hilt, with headset mics, cellphones and ... Palm Pilots. A spokesperson for frontwoman Beyoncé Knowles' father, Matthew Knowles, says he believes that "the girls can easily outsell Britney Spears." Well, maybe if you add all three together (and throw in a few of those members who came and went). But what I want to know is, will the Michelle Williams doll include her moustache, which she claims she only recently had waxed? "You ought to see what I had," the formerly hirsute singer tells Esquire. "It was just a part of what I was -- my 'tache was my boyfriend. Some guys like a girl with a moustache. Destiny's Child at Party in the Park!
Yesterday, I went to Party in the Park in London, featuring artists such as Craig David, Shaggy, Wyclef Jean, Misteeq, Sisqo and, of course DESTINY'S CHILD! Destiny's Child stole the show, and they wore those sexy pink outfits, the same ones in the video for Bottylicious. I had a great view, even though I was squashed with 100,000 other people! I will be adding my scanned picture soon! Destiny's Child performed Independant Women, Bug A Boo, Say My Name, Emotions, Bootylicious and Survivor in that order. The crowd went mad when they came out, and they were, in my opinion, the best band there! If you want to read a review of Party in the Park, click here.

Beyoncé + Justin=LOVE?!
Destiny's Child star Beyonce Knowles has admitted to having a brief fling with Justin Timberlake, the current boyfriend of Britney Spears. However, the liaison is unlikely to cause a rift in the long-term relationship between Spears and N*SYNC's Timberlake, as it happened before they got together. Knowles, who has recently been linked to controversial rap superstar Eminem, confessed: He's adorable I am a big fan. He's a good kisser, too. However, she added: Don't get the wrong idea. It was once at a party. He's doing his thing with Britney now.

Destiny's Child in Japan
The Destiny's Child girls are indisputably the most independent women in the world. We caught up with them in Tokyo preparing to unleash one of their greatest singles to date, 'Bootylicious'. Watch the full video special by clicking here. Preparing to take the stage at Shibuya Axe, Beyonce told us how things have changed since they were last in Tokyo. "I can remember coming here, what was it? Three or four years ago? And nobody knew who Destiny's Child was. But now, we came and we went to the radio station, and people are here, we have a sold out show here, and it's amazing." Indeed, the girls have truly conquered the world with their blend of edgy contemporary R&B and sassy feminist sloganeering. Fresh from their live triumph at London's Jam In The Park festival, they've been clocking up the air miles in a bid to maintain their grip on soul supremacy. "…We were just in Europe," Beyonce continues. "Then we flew to Las Vegas, and now we are here in Japan. And then we go to New York, and we are all around the world." The highlight of their recent 'Survivor' album, 'Bootylicious' will be the next Destiny's Child single and you can see a sneak clip of the video and the live performance of the song in our clip.

NEW YORK (AP) - If you ever wondered how the women of Destiny's Child keep their gravity-defying hip-huggers from falling down, the secret is extra-tight pants - and plenty of tugging.
