to use as "stamps" for printing with paint. Cut fruit(apples, almonds)
in various shapes & sizes. Purchase or make your own sponge shapes
in the animals that begin with the letter "Ee".
Recognizing the Letter "Ee"
Introduce the letter "E" to the children by showing
them the written word "elephant or egg" and helping them to see that it
begins with an "Ee". Cut a large elephant or egg shape out of paper
and write the letter "Ee" on it. Have the children tear or cut out
magazine pictures beginning with the letter "Ee" and then glue the pictures
on the shape.
An "Egg"cellent Idea!
Take a white crayon and have them draw pictures
or write their names on a cooled hardboiled egg. Then dye them just like
at easter time. When they get up from nap they have a wonderful snack.
Egg Carton Train
bottom half of egg carton
scissors
glue
empty spool (one per child)
Toilet paper tube (1 per child)
black construction paper
small paper cup to trace (3-oz size)
chalk
black and red paint
Cut the bottom of an egg carton in half lengthwise
and give one half to each child. Have each child glue a toilet paper
tube on top of their first egg cup and a spool on top of their last.
Have them paint the spool and the adjouning egg cup red. This is
the caboose. Have them paint the rest of the egg carton black
and let dry.
Using the small paper cup, trace ten circles on
the black construction paper. Cut the circles out (wheels).
Glue five wheels on each side of the the train.
Pattern Eggs
Draw and cut out six large cardboard eggs.
Glue a different pattern of fabric or wallpaper to each egg. Cut
the eggs in half .Let the children take turns matching the egg halves.
Eskimos
Ask the children to cut out a large round shape
for the face of an Eskimo. Show them how to glue white cotton balls around
the face for the fur of a hood. Have them glue or color on other features.
Talk about why Eskimos need to be dressed in warm clothing.
Egg Yolk Painting
Take egg yolks and add food coloring. Makes
a very pretty and shiny picure.
Paper Plate Elephant
The children paint paper plates gray, then
add construction paper ears, and large googly eyes. Cut out a circle from
the center of the plate, where the children can stick their arm through
to make the trunk!!
Egg Shell Art
Crushed egg shells; food coloring; glue; construction
paper
You will need a large amount of crushed egg shells
for this activity. Sending a note home to parents asking for leftover shells
will help. Soak egg shells in a solution of food coloring and water.
Prepare a number of different colors. When shells are the color
you desire, remove and spread on paper towels to dry. Direct children
to make a large, simple drawing or design and to glue on the crushed egg
shells wherever they wish. Allow artwork to dry before displaying.
Ears
Large sheet of paper on which is written the following
statement, “I have two ears to hear with". The children can paste pictures
of things, which make a sound that they can hear. Sounds could be
categorized by soft sounds, loud sounds, sounds that are nice to hear,
sounds you don't like to hear, etc.
Songs, Finger Plays, Nursery Rhymes:
Elephant
Right foot, left foot, see me go.
Put weight
on one foot, then the other, swaying from side to side.
I am gray and big and very slow.
When I come walking down the street
I bring my trunk and four big feet.
Extend arms together in front
and swing like a trunk.
One Little Elephant
One little elephant went out to play,
(Make an elephant trunk with your arm held
in front of your face)
Out on a spider's web one day.
(Pretend to walk carefully on a spider's web)
He had such enormous fun,
That he called for another elephant to come!
(Motion for the other "elephants" (kids))
(Yell) Too many elephants! There
goes the web!
(Fall down with the kids)
Recipes:
Cheesy Scrambled Egg
Makes 4 servings (1/2 english muffin each)
1 tblsp margarine
4 eggs
2 tblsp. processed cheese spread or cream cheese
2 english muffins, halved and toasted
4 process cheese food slices
Melt margarine in fry pan on low heat. Add
eggs and cheese spread or cream cheese. Cook, stirring constantly, until
eggs begin to set. Top each english muffin with a cheese slice, and 1/4
of the scrambled eggs.
Deviled Egg Boats
hard boiled eggs (one whole per child), cooled
mayo type dressing
1/2 to 1 tsp. mustard (depending on your taste)
salt & pepper
Small Crackers (one per egg half)
Chill hard boiled eggs. Cut eggs in half
lengthwise. Scoop out yolk and place in small bowl. Place egg
white halves on a plate. Mix together the yolks, dressing, mustard,
salt & pepper (to taste)....blending well. (The mustard is there
to put in a little color...but if you prefer to taste the "zing"...then
adjust for your own taste!) Spoon the yolk mixture back into the
hole of the egg white. Stick a square cracker, point down, into the
yolk mixture for a sail.
Note: You could also use a pretzel stick
and a cheese slice cut into triangles as a sail!
English Muffin Pizzas
8 english muffin halves
1 tsp of pizza sauce per half
toppings: pepperoni, pineapple, salami,
bacon, vegies, ......your choice!
shredded mozzarella cheese (try cheddar or swiss
or ???)
Place 1 tsp. of pizza sauce on each muffin half.
Add toppings and cheese. Place in a 350o oven just until cheese melts.
About 5 minutes. These are fun to make...the kids love to help!
We build a face on ours on top of the cheese with cut up toppings - that
way the kids recognize their own creations - when they come out of the
oven!
