Family Escape Plan
Have a family meeting and plan an escape route
in case of a fire. Make sure that you have at least two ways to exit the
room. Have mom or dad draw the plans on a piece of paper. Practice your
escape plan on a regular basis - at least once a month. Remember that your
plan should have a meeting place that is safe outside of the home.
ie. the big oak tree on the corner; a neighbors front yard; be consistent
with the "safe place" so children are not confused when it comes time for
a real emergency!
Practicing 9-1-1 and Street Address
Practice calling 9-1-1 on a play phone with
your child. Have your child tell you what they might say to the dispatcher
if there were a fire or another emergency at your home. Work with
your child so that they know their address.
Remembering 9-1-1
If your child is young, and has trouble remembering
the correct sequence of 9-1-1 - Place a small red circle sticker on the
9, and 2 small green circle stickers on the 1 - Practice saying "red, green,
green" with your child. Sometimes it is easier for them to remember
their colors than it is to remember numbers!

One climbs a ladder, now there are two.
Two friendly firefighters exercise and run,
One cooks some dinner now there is one.
One friendly fire fighter all the work is done

(Tune: I'm a Little Teapot)
I'm a big red fire truck long and stout,
When I am needed, I roar and shout.
People love to see me rush about,
Just turn me on and head me out.

Here's is my laddler, tall and strong.
When I get a call, you'll hear my song,
Just climb aboard and turn me on.
