The following was contained in material forwarded to me by Daisy Plumb (wife of Alvin) on Dec 1, 2002. She found it in material she had stored after Alvin’s death.
The following information is from a booklet entitled: "A Brief Statement of the Stimmel and Plum Ancestors From 1740 down to and Including the Names of the Fourth Generation" compiled by John Stimmel, 220 West 10th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, May, 1902. In his preface he states "This is only a foundation for others who may feel an interest in taking up the thread and carrying it on down." And "My object is give a true and correct account of the older families mentioned herein."
John Plum’s Family
No.49 The Plums are of German descent. I am not able to give their history any farther back than my grandfather on my mother’s side. His name was John Plum, who was born in 1740, but, where I am unable to say. Rachel Temple was born in 1743, on the Atlantic Ocean, and her mother died a few days afterwards and was placed in a coffin, weighted down, and dropped in the ocean. John Plum and Rachel Temple were married about 1765. They lived in Hampshire county, Virginia, about 10 miles west of Romney, on Patterson Creek. From this union four sons and four daughters namely: Jonathan, Abram, Jacob, Henry, Nancy, Rachel, Susan, and Catherine. They were all married in Virginia, except Henry.
John Plum and all of his family came to Ohio in the fall of 1812 except Jonathon and Abram. They remained in Virginia the remainder of their lives. John Plum bought 200 acres of land in Hamilton Township, Franklin County, now known as the Willis Riley and Frank Stimmel farms, where they lived the remainder of their lives. They were buried on their farm in what is known as the Riley graveyard. John died 1815, aged 75 years. Rachel, his wife, died 1838, aged 95 years.
Jonathan Plum’s Family
No.50 Jonathan Plum, born about 1768. He married Elizabeth Crabill. From this union three sons and three daughters, namely: Isaac, Jonathan Jr., John, Nancy, Susan, and the youngest one (name forgotten). Jonathan died about 1815. His widow, then with six children, came to Ohio and settled, in Clarke County, on what is known as the Buck Creek Valley. Some years later they removed to Logan County, Ohio, where the mother died. Jonathan Sr. died at age 47 years.

No. 51 Isaac, Born____. He married Sarah Strange. From this union one son and six daughters, namely: James, Irma, Alice, Elenora, Lilian, Julie, ans Sallie.
No. 52. Jonathan Jr., born___. He married Sallie McKennon. From this union six sons and four daughters, namely: John, William H., Isaac N., ____field S., Milton, Lewis S., Nancy, Elizabeth. Eliza and Kittie. Jonathan Jr. died_____, age____ years.
No. 53. John, born____. He died age about twenty tears.
No. 54. Nancy, born___. She married a Mr. Dalrymple(?). They went to Illinois many years ago.
No. 55. Susan, born___. She married Joseph McLaughlin. From this union two sons and three daughters, namely: Isaac, John, Ellen, Elizabeth and Caroline.
The one whose name is unknown now lives in Iowa.
Abram Plum’s Family
No. 56. Abram Plum, born about 1771, in Hampshire County, Virginia. He married , but, whom I am unable to say. From this union there were at least three sons and four daughters, namely: John, Abram, Samuel, Elizabeth, Susan Rachel and Mary. Abram died 1865, aged 84 years. His wife died 1854, aged 78 years.
To whom married:
No. 57. John, born 1798. He married Nancy Singleton. They came to Ohio in 1840 and lived in Franklin County a few years, and then removed to Iowa with all his family, except the oldest daughter. From this union four sons and seven daughters, namely: Singleton, John, Abram, Aaron, Margaret, Susan, Orelela(?), Francis, Martha, Caroline and Mary.
No. 58. The other two sons, Abram and Samuel, I am unable to say what became of them.
No.59. The daughters all remained single, but, one. They all lived and died near Ridgeville, Mineral County, West Virginia.
Nancy Plum’s Family
No. 60. Nancy Plum was born 1774. She married Rudy Landes, brother of Samuel Landes. They came to Ohio and settled on a farm on the north line of Pickaway County. From this union four sons and seven daughters, namely: Joseph, Solomon, Felix, Rudy. Margaret, Catherine, Elizabeth, Mary, Susan, Eliza and Rachel. Rudy Landes and all his family (except Joseph) removed to Carroll County, Indiana, in the fall of 1833, and settled on a farm about 10 miles southwest of Loganspot, Indiana. Rudy died about 1837, age 65 years. Nancy, his wife, died in about 1848, age 74 years.
No. 61. Joseph, the oldest son, went from Ohio in 1832, to Tazwell County, Illinois, and located on a farm about six miles south of Peoria where he raised a large and respectable family.
No. 61a. Solomon died when a young man.
No. 62. Felix married and settled on his fathers farm. He raised a large family of sons and daughters.
No. 63. Rudy Jr. died aged about 20 years.
No. 64. Elizabeth married a man by the name of Nichols.
No. 65. One of the daughters married a Mr. Ball.
The other daughters were still single in 1845.

Jacob Plum’s Family
No. 66. Jacob Plum, born 1782. He married Hannah Magdelene Stimmel in Hampshire County, Virginia. They came to Ohio in the spring of 1812 and settled on a farm just north of Lockbourne. It will be proper to state here that her Christian name, Hannah, was changed at her marriage and Mary substituted. From this union five sons and three daughters, namely: Michael, Henry, John , Jacob, James, Mary, Eliza and Rebecca.
Jacob Sr. died 1851 age 69 years. Mary M., his wife, died 1839, age 51 years.
To whom married:
No 67. Michael, born 1806. He married Maria Swisher. From this union five sons and four daughters, namely: John, William, Augustus, James, Levi, Mary, Phebe, Ollie, and Carrie. Michael died___ age___. His wife, Maria, died 1892, age 80 years.
No. 68. Henry, born 1808. He married Catherine Duvall. From this union five sons and four daughters, namely: Seymour, William, John, Henry, Goodale(?), Eliza, Nancy, Catherine and Rebecca. Henry died in 1867, aged 59 years. Catherine, his wife, died 1871, aged 51 years.
No. 69. John, born 1812. He married Jane Moore of Virginia. They had a small family when they removed to Tazewell county, Illinois about the year 1844.
No. 70. Jacob, born 1815. He died 1837, age 22 years.
No. 71. Mary, born 1818. She married James Fleming. From this union two sons, namely: James and Robert. James Sr. died a few years later. Mary then married Robert Fleming, a brother of James. They went to Iowa. From this union, no offspring.
No. 72. Eliza, born 1820. She married John Windsor. From this union one son, John Jr. She died shortly after, and a few years later, Mr. Windsor, with his son, went to Saginaw, Michigan, where John Jr. grew up and married. He now resides in Toledo, Ohio. John Sr. died___ age___years. Eliza, his wife, died 1844, age 24 years.
No. 73. James, born 1823. He married Phebe Soutt. They soon afterwards went to Tazewell County, Illinois, where they raised a family of sons and daughters.
No. 74. Rebecca, born 1826. She married Samuel Rohr. They soon afterward went to Iowa, where they raised a family of sons and daughters. They then removed to Wisconsin, where Mrs. Rohr died in 1901, aged 75 years.
Henry Plums Family
No.75. Henry Plum, born 1784 in Hampshire County, Virginia. He came to Ohio with his brother Jacob and family in 1812. Henry married Catherine Crabill, who also came from Virginia at the same time. They settled in Pickaway County, about three miles north of South Bloomfield, where they lived until the year 1825, when Henry was drowned in crossing the Scioto river after night.
From this union two sons and three daughters, namely: Maria, David, Sarah Jane, Thomas, and Mary Elizabeth Ann. Henry’s widow, some years later, married Samuel Phebus. They lived near Williamsport, in Pickaway County, where Henry’s children all grew up and married. Henry died 1825, aged 41 years. Catherine, his wife, died 1875, aged 91 years.
TO WHOM MARRIED:
No.76. Maria, born 1814. She married John Hornbeck. From this union one son and one daughter, namely: Margaret and William.
No. 77. David, born 1816. He married Miss Funk. From this union two sons and six daughters, namely: Anna, Lydia, Samantha, Lucetta, William, Eliza, Emma, and Oliver.
No. 78. Sarah Jane, born 1819. She married Curtis Hornbeck. From this union four sons and three daughters, namely: Mary, Marquis, Lydia, George W., Jasper, Catherine and John Willis. Sarah J., died 1901, aged 82 years.
No. 79. Thomas, born 1821. He married Catherine Battles, daughter of Dr. Battles, of Illinois. Thomas was a physician. From this union one child, who died in infancy.
.His wife died soon after. Thomas enlisted in the Union army, and served four years and three months. He was Sergeant of Artillery in the 12th Ohio Infantry. Thomas died 1870, aged 49 tears.
No. 80. Mary Elizabeth Ann, born 1823. She married Willis Cartmall(?) Ferguson. From this union two sons and five daughters, namely: Henry O., Julia Francis, Emma, Ella May, Mary Willis, Bertha, and Willis Channing.
Mr. Fergusen enlisted in as private in Co. E, 114th O.V.I. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in said company. He was mortally wounded in on of the great battles before Vicksburg, Mississippi, May 22, 1863. He died two days later. Willis C. died 1863, aged 41 years. Mary E., his wife, died 1901, age 78 years.
Susan Plum’s Family
No. 81. Susan Plum, born 1786. She married a minister by the name of Kiner. He disappeared soon afterwards. Susan then came with her father’s family to Ohio. Samuel Riley came from Virginia in the fall of 1812 with the Plum family. Susan and Samuel Riley were married in 1813, in Hamilton Township, Franklin County. From this union three children, one son, William. Two died in infancy. Samuel Riley,and wife, always lived on the Plum farm. After the death of Mr. Plum, he bought 100 acres that is still in the Riley name. Samuel died 1859, age 74 years.

No. 82. William, born 1816. He married Isabelle Wright. From this union one son and one daughter, namely: Jennie and Samuel.
Note from Don: Please note that in the accepted genealogy data, John Plum was born on the high seas, in this one Rachel was. More research is needed here. I'll keep working on it as I'm able, but, hopefully some others of you more adept at this will also help.
Note from Don: The material had been copied on a copy machine probably in 1962. It was faded really bad, so I retyped it. I’ve gone back over it several times to make sure it’s an accurate copy and I’m confident it is, The (?) places I put those were just too faded to be sure. Note he states we are German. I always thought we descended from the English Plumbs.
