St. Patrick in Co. Derry

Long ago in Ireland St. Patrick visited County Derry. At this time, snakes lived in Ireland. While walking around the country he had bother with snakes. They would distract him when walking and he found them to be quite sneaky and malicious creatures. At Banagher, there lay an attractive spot. It was called Pasties Hole. St Patrick decided that he had had enough of the snakes and their ways, so he, with the power of God, gathered all the snakes in Ireland and drowned them in Pasties Hole (above). Till this day the story is remembered of how he did this and there was supposed to be one snake that survived and hid under a rock and it still lives at Pasties Hole. The picture of Pasties Hole has been popular with tourists and photographers for years. It was once printed as a postcard, which is not the one above.
