The Hall of SHAME!

Edition No:3    August 2005

Hall of Shame Mission Statement

This site is dedicated to expose those shameful people who think they can lie, cheat, steal and violate the principles of basic humanity and remain anonymous. As you are aware, my involvement with Cameroon began through the glazed eyes of a tourist. After a sham marriage and the loss of my life savings to the corrupt judiciary, I now see the plight of Cameroonians through much clearer eyes. It's through this anonymity, that is fiercely protected by those involved, that corruption heads down its unbending path. There are these same people sitting in the pew next to you in church on Sundays, who are stealing the food from your mouth and your children’s education on Mondays. I say, lets take a look at these people and let them enjoy the sleepless nights that they inflict upon others. Exposure of these peoples' acts of shame is the strongest tool to drive others away from these evil practices.

Is Cameroon so far down the toilet bowl of corruption that it is beyond help? I think not, but the fact that many wear their crimes as medals to their cleverness, and worse, that others aspire in the same way to achieve like goals is a mentality worthy of standing against.

Submissions

Please feel free to send your own corruption or injustice stories. Each month contributions highlighting the difficulties of those that may not have found the means to voice their issues will be considered. Of course I would need to check story validity depending on its contents, but we won’t be shying away from what needs to be said. Consider this your newsletter and within reason there shall be no censorship. Photos can be published also, if they enhance your tale. Its early days and may take a couple of editions to get into the flow of things, but no target is too big. My philosophy is fairly simple “A thief is a thief”. I don’t discriminate on age, colour, race or sex. I do request that you use this forum for the purpose it is intended. Thanks.

From The Editors Desk

Dear Fellow Corruption Haters,

Well, that was a quick month. It seems as though information will never run short in this project, it will always be time thats lacking.  Some nice clear photos have arrived in the mail box, to ensure future shame file editions.

Any person mentioned in the Hall of Shame newsletter shall be given space ( unedited ) for a "right of reply" in the following newsletter.

There are just a couple of things to mention this month. We dont want it to be all doom and gloom at Hall of Shameand Im certainly a person who believes credit should be given where it is due. With this in mind a regular feature in future newsletters will be the Praise File, where we shall sing the praises of incorruptible Cameroonians.
Check out the
Mail Bag section to learn about Hall of Shames sponsorship of a unique relocation program, designed to ease the level of corruption in the SW province.
Thanks for all the great feedback and I hope you enjoy this edition.    Glenn

Praise File #1

Cardinal Christian Wiygham Tumi

Cardinal Tumi is selected for our praise file this month. He is a man of character who has lived as a mentor and disciple maker to young people all over the world. A prelate who encourages enculturation when he said, “The real problem is not that of the rapport between the Gospel and culture, but that of the rapport between the new Christian traditions with those that have monopolized Christianity. ... Throughout the history of Christianity, 'Christianists' have attributed to God political or cultural choices that conform to certain interests."

As such, he has resisted the corrupt government of Biya by speaking out loud against corruption and lack of better governance despite attempts at his life. When good people stay silent, evil people become addicted to their evil and make the good people pay. We all should learn from this man to speak out against evil and corrupt practices.

My 2 Cents !

Hi Glenn,

If I should ask isn't there a possibility of you seeing these corrupters in a court other than a Cameroonian court? You wouldn't believe me; I do not trust anything that has to do with the Cameroonian Government "Judiciary, administration, police etc"; they’re all corrupt more than you can imagine. Imagine this short story, A poor farmer at Esu NWP where they live mostly on local farm products, which they sell to buy other living necessities. Her farm 'crops" were destroyed by cows (cattles) own by one local grazer. She reported the issue to the police who rather caught her and locked her up after receiving bribe from the wealthy grazer. She was locked up for more than six months without even trial and later released on no charges. Brother here in Cameroon there is no rule of law everybody does what he/she wants especially if there are in support of the ruling Government that in turn will always protect their wrong doings. You will always find cases where the Government or it agents are being sued and won, but they will never heed to the court ruling thereof. (Name supplied).

This was a mail that I received from a young Cameroonian. This tale must be beyond the understanding of any person with even the slightest compassion for another being.

I really stopped when I read this simple but powerful story. Sadly, two things immediately stood out. That this is the view a young man has of his own country, and the clarity with which he expressed it. The second was that this simple story expressed the complete spectrum of the wickedness that is corruption, rather than confusing others with complicated and incomprehensible stories. How will “debt relief” help the lady in the story, or the young man who wrote it? When will Mr Biya step up to the plate with more than false words? When will these dictators of Africa be viewed for what they are? When are western countries going to stop allowing these dictators & thieves to stop stashing their stolen billions in their banks? Most probably not while there are resources to be exploited with the aid of western countries who happily shelve their consciences for their five pieces of silver.   Just my thoughts.

All the best,  Glenn

Shame File No: 3

Name: Barrister Eno Charles Agbor,

(Eno Lawless Chambers)

Residence: Buea

Alias: “belle for shit"

Eno Chambers di dry like man way i get posh belle

Well, well, well……Barrister Eno Charles Agbor, Now where do we start with you? I don’t think there is enough space to even get close to covering all your shameful dealings.  You’re not even a good driver are you? You missed your chance to give me that “accelerated” hearing in the High Court grounds. I’m betting you regret that now, (missing that is).

Barrister Eno Charles Agbor- Complaint lodged with PG.

Lets see,..you lie, you steal, you cheat, you even accuse Presidents of the court of being corrupt, (and lets not forget your forged document and fraud of 3,500,000 cfa).

I’ll let the president of the court tell the story of your actions in his own words.

Affidavit-Justice Teddy Misime Mokwe / President of The Fako High Court

You even drew Judge Chibili into your web of lies and you both got caught out, trying to sell a compound I purchased. My experience with you, was with someone who was determined to act in any way to relieve me of my property. You wanted the 4WD so badly; well you can have it, or what is left on the spare block opposite the American Embassy in Yaoundé.

Fortunately for you I’m more interested in the Magistrates and Judges who chose to act alongside you.  Is it true that Magistrate Ketuanze Jacob fled to Mamfe? I have not missed a detail about your disgusting and beastly behaviors in my book. That you made a false & damaging report against a Gendarme Brigade commander in your attempted theft, shows your malicious attitude. I hope your colleagues appreciate your effort to shame them and paint them as the most corrupt and uncivilized judiciary in the world. While your peers stand alongside people like yourself and say nothing, then they should not complain now, when they are tarred with the same brush.

I asked you very pleasantly on two occasions to resolve this matter by negotiation, but your greed told you that you could cheat me for the lot.

Understand what you have brought upon yourself and your cohorts. I earned that money, it belongs to me.     I will fight you to the death while I breathe, and never allow you and your likes to steal it from me this way.
That is my promise to you.

Further Info on Barrister Eno.

Let me introduce you to this pupil Barrister destined to find himself under investigation to be debarred by the Cameroonian Bar Assoc, just like his mentor, Eno Charles.  Mr Mbianyor, I haven’t much to say to you, other than I hope it sits well with the Judges in Buea, that they know you lied and made false allegations against one of their own (Justice Mokwe) causing his removal. It is through your actions that I get to pinpoint certain Judges (upcoming shame files) and throw a blanket over the whole Judiciary in Fako. You seriously are much too dull to be a lawyer, if that is what you call running around behind Eno Charles and carrying the tail of his robe to keep it from the mud. Just so we understand each other Tanyi Mbianyor, you are a thief, a liar and a cheat. Any fool who visits your chambers will get what they deserve.                                    You disgrace your tribe, your colleagues and your country.

SHAME File No: 2

Name:Bisong Etahoben, ( Weekly Post Editor )

Residence: Buea

Aliases: Chief Bisong Etahoben,

               Thief Bisong Etahoben,

           Chop die Etahoben.

Bisong Etahoben makes his debut on the shame file as Cameroon’s most shameful newspaper editor.  Using the lies of a discredited Barrister (Eno Charles Agbor) and a Limbe town prostitute (Enow Brillian Ayuk), Etahoben printed a two page article in his newspaper. The article was to coincide with my return to the Fako High Court in April 2003, and was designed to achieve the final theft of my property. (My property is still being held in trust by the Fako High Court). Etahoben’s article made claims of murder, drug trafficking, gun running, pornography etc. There is no need for me to go on as the article can be read in it’s entirety , Weakly Post Article "Is The Judiciary In Cameroon For Sale?". Not only did Etahoben (a self made chief) write this scurrilous filth, he tried to add some type of credibility to his article by claiming that information came from a source in Australia!  Shame on you Etahoben, you are a liar. I doubt if you could even find Australia on a map!

I now ask you (in public) to show a single piece of evidence to support any claim you have made in your article. As I know this is not possible, I await your public apology as the only way this filthy article of yours will ever be put to rest.

Your article has now widely travelled and is a sad representation of your journalism, intellect and moral character. Many others involved in this matter committed their shame behind closed doors, but you happily put yours out there for all to see. Congratulations on your well deserved entry into Cameroon’s “Hall of Shame - Shame File”

I go for Buea I see some man Etahoben,

Enow Brillian and Etahoben tif my money,

Na weti be man ney na weti be this world eh?

Campost - Bank Crisis!

Editor jailed for investigating corruption!

(RSF/IFEX) - RSF has condemned the 6 July 2005 detention of Joseph Bessala Ahanda, editor-in-chief of the weekly "Le Front", and accused the authorities of arresting him for investigation corruption. "We support the committee formed to press for Ahanda's release and call on Prosecutor Abena Protais to free him at once," the organisation said.

Ahanda published three reports about the alleged embezzlement of 300 million CFA francs (approx. US $546,000; 457,000 euros) by Maurice Bayémi, head of the Cameroon postal services (Campost), and his associate Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga, owner of the Anecdote Press Group. The reports led to Bayémi's dismissal.

Customers of the Kumba Post office have besieged the place going on a hunger strike and burning tyres on the streets.

"Some officials of the bank intimated that government borrowed some of the money to carry out some of its activities. It is also alleged that some big guns apparently know how some of the cash disappeared“.

"Depriving me and my family of our hard earned savings, is subjecting us to the worst and loathed form of torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment," the petition stated.

Human Rights Issues

32 SCNC Activists Arrested In Kumba
"Amongst those arrested, 15 were detained at the Central Police Station Kumba, while 17 were incarcerated at the Gendarmerie Brigade. Most of the detainees were above the age of 50“.

Family Blames SCNC Kondengui Detainee's Death On Neglect
"Family members lamented that Ngu Ndi would not have died if he had received adequate medical attention“.

Police Brutalise Human Rights Secretary
"The Northwest Provincial Secretary of the National Commission of Human Rights and Freedoms, Nelson Ndi, was brutalised when he intervened in the case of some youths tortured by the police during the recent taxi drivers' strike“.

The Hell-hole Called Buea Production Prison
"One would easily argue that if production, correction or penitentiary translate to torture and general hardship, then, the prison in Buea could pass for a production centre. For, indeed, the place is a hellhole by any other name, apparently producing the very opposite of its intended goal...reformation“.

   UPDATES

Road to Bali

Fon Doh Gah Gwanyim

THE HONOURABLE ROYAL KILLER.

His Royal Highness Fon Doh Gah Gwanyin is the traditional ruler of Balikumbat in North West Province of Cameroon and is an incestuous killer. He is also the ruling Cameroon People Democratic Movement [CPDM] Member of Parliament, one of the Secretaries in the CPDM Parliamentary Group, Member of the CPDM Central Committee, Lord Mayor and President of NW Contractors. These he acquired as a CPDM reward for stuffing ballot boxes and rigging elections in favour of the CPDM cauldron.
Because this thug wields the above powers, he has become a demi-god and has equally turned his Kingdom into a small Republic where gruesome murders and terror reign exacerbated by his militia, the Royal Defence Force. He also runs a dehumanising palace prison.
The recent lifting of his parliamentary immunity, though the first of its kind in Cameroon criminal records by the bureau of Cameroon's National Assembly to initiate him face interrogation and stand trial for murdering an opposition rival leader, Late John Kohtem is a farcical hocus-pocus.
First, this CPDM hoity-toity continue to be moving freely like a bird in the sky terrorizing prosecuting witnesses while his accomplices are languishing in detention.

Second, if there was any rule of law in Cameroon, Fon Doh should long have been in jail for his first murder in 1992 or for the 1995 tribal extermination of the Bafanji people. And to buttress the complete absence of the rule of law in Cameroon, Cameroon Supreme Court did order Fon Doh to pay FCFA 62 Millions [about 34,100 US dollars] as general and specific damages to the Banfanjis. Till today that court order is yet to be respected and it is even iffy if Fon Doh will ever be tried and sentenced.
Outrageously he had been getting away with murders. He shot to death an SDF opposition in 1992. Beat his own mother because she scolded him for committing incest with one of his sisters. The mother latter died from Fon Doh's injuries. Now rumours hold that the Biya regime is secretly arranging for a political asylum for this CPDM thug. Does the world know that in Cameroon those who murder and embezzle religiously for Biya and his party are above the Law?

Relocation program

Hall of Shame proudly announces its sponsorship of a relocation program designed to ease the pressure of corruption against the population in the SW province. Though there were many institutions that fitted the strict criteria for participation in the program, one stood out above all the rest. The very strict criteria that needed to be passed was,

a)     Total lack of compassion for your fellow human beings.

b)     Extremely high levels of corruption and wickedness in every aspect of daily life.

c)      Low or no moral fibre, an unquenchable greed and a penchant for using juju.

As you can imagine competition was fierce, but the candidate has been selected.

Next month the complete details of the relocation will be posted, including a photograph of the accommodation we’re supplying. We’re offering prime real estate (water views) as a means to tempt our candidate to travel “down under” to Australia.

Editors Note: I checked the mail bag looking for a reply from Bisong Etahoben, Soter Tarh and Mister Fake Fako Barrister from last months newsletter, but it seems they have nothing to say for themselves. Their silence is deafening.

Dear HE Paul Biya

Please pass the soap.

In one of those rare moments when I've caught myself watching Cameroon television, a journalist was asking people in the streets of Yaounde what they thought about corruption in Cameroon. One gentleman's answer was, I thought, quite classic. He asked the journalist: "When your body is dirty, do you start washing it from your feet upward? Don't you start from your head? Cameroon is like a body that is dirty. Go and start washing it from the head; you know where the head is, don't you? So, that's where you should ask these questions, don't come to us in the street."

In this matter of corruption, Mr. Biya has the water, the soap and the sponge. He is the head. Once he starts washing himself first, the exercise will filter down to the ordinary man in the street, the feet.

When that happens, if it ever happens at all in the life time of my great grand children, then investors like this gentleman from Australia, would no longer worry about the judicial system colluding with conmen and women to defraud them of their investments?

I don't see the situation improving any time soon, especially not with Mr. Biya giving some of us, who are eager to write his obituary, twenty more years to wait!!

This commentary was culled from a reader’s response to an article titled “Biya Vows Again To Combat Corruption”.  (Name and address removed).

Investor’s Corner

Quote: "We're asked for bribes amounting to millions of CFA francs, and we often pay these out," says a French national involved in the logging industry, who wishes to remain anonymous. "This allows firms to avoid paying logging taxes, and taxes for the port of Douala which are imposed for trade relating to Cameroonian wood.” We’d like to uphold the law. But, what would you have us do when it is ministry officials themselves who are harassing us?"
