The Vision of Purely Committed

Mission Statement:
To present college-age women with the consequences of premarital sex and the benefits of abstinence, and give them an opportunity to make a memorable commitment.

Purpose:
Purely Committed is committed to coordinating a women’s abstinence event. The "One Knight Only" banquet takes place in an elegant environment giving this topic and the commitment involved the attention and respect it deserves. The event is designed to unify and encourage fellow college-age women, providing an opportunity to make a promise to be pure and allowing women to reclaim themselves through a commitment to secondary virginity.

Motivation:
The best form of protection against sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies, and the emotional consequences of a sexual relationship is to be abstinent until marriage. The idea of committing to abstinence is not a new concept; millions of junior high and high school students around the world have signed cards to solidify their commitment. Many social pressures and sexual temptations accompany the freedoms that are available after high school and our concern is that little is being done to motivate the college student to be abstinent. The biggest problem is the fact that abstinence has been left in the shadows and "safe" sex has stolen the spotlight.

Banquet Description:
Purely Committed strives to give the issue of sex and the commitment involved the respect it deserves by hosting the One Knight Only banquet in an elegant environment. The evening is based around a three-course meal and is designed to encourage discussion amongst the attendees.

Throughout the evening a variety of speakers share their personal stories that led them to their commitment. A doctor also shares his/her perspective from a medical standpoint. A celebrity keynote speaker, another motivational part of the evening, brings attention to the issue of chastity that is most often discouraged and disrespected by our society.

The evening concludes with an invitation to participate in card signing and a candle lighting ceremony on the beach, to signify their commitment to purity from that day forward.

Current Goals:
This year Santa Barbara will host another "One Knight Only" banquet in the spring of 2003. In addition, Purely Committed Santa Barbara will direct a new chapter of inspired women in Louisiana. Purely Committed Louisiana will host a banquet to encourage young women in their area as well.
