The
Gospel Of Thomas Thomas O. Lambdin |
The
Book of Acts |
|
|
These are the
secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down. |
[1:1] The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus
began both to do and teach, |
|
|
The secret sayings |
Jesus began both to do
and teach |
The living Jesus |
Jesus... he through
the Holy Ghost... shewed himself
alive... the kingdom |

Speaking... commanded... which,

(1) And he said, "Whoever finds the interpretation
of these sayings will not experience
death." |
[1:5] For John
truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days
hence. |
|
|
Whoever finds |
John |
The interpretation of
these sayings |
He said... It is not for
you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his
own power |
Not experience death |
Baptized with
water... be baptized with the Holy Ghost not... not for you
to know |
|
|
(2) Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until
he finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will
be astonished, and |
[1:8] But
ye shall receive power, after that the Holy
Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both

Let him who seeks
continue seeking |
They looked stedfastly |
Until he finds |
After that the Holy Ghost
is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses |
When he finds, he will
become troubled |
When he had spoken these
things |
When he becomes troubled,
he will be astonished |
While they
beheld... out of their sight... while they looked stedfastly... behold... why stand ye
gazing... ye have seen |
And he will rule |
But ye shall receive
power... Then returned they unto Jerusalem |
Over |
He was taken up... a
cloud... upon... a cloud... heaven...
up... heaven... heaven... heaven... the |
The All |

(3) Jesus said, "If those who lead you say to you, 'See,
the kingdom is in the
sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you.
If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you.
Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you
come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the
living father. But if you will not know
yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you
who are that poverty." |
[1:13] And when they were come in,
they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and
John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James
the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. |
|
|
Those who lead you |
Peter, and James, and
John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James
the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of
James... this ministry... his bishoprick... John... one
be ordained... they appointed
two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was
surnamed Justus, and Matthias... this ministry and
apostleship... Judas... Matthias... the eleven apostles |
See |
There appeared unto them |
The kingdom... the
kingdom |
David... the
dwellers at |
In the sky,' then the
birds of the sky |
They went up into an
upper room... the dwellers at |
Will precede
you... will precede you |
Judas, which was guide to
them |
It is in the sea |
The field of blood |
The kingdom is inside of
you |
These all continued with
one accord in prayer... in the midst of the disciples... this
scripture must needs have been fulfilled... he burst asunder in the
midst... the Lord Jesus went in and out among us... they were
all with one accord in one place |
It is outside of you |
All his bowels gushed
out... the Lord Jesus went in and out among us |
Then... When... then |
When... Now...
Beginning... when |
When you come to know
yourselves, then you will become known |
It was known unto all the
dwellers at Jerusalem |
You will realize that it
is you who are the sons of the living father |
Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men |
If you will not know
yourselves, you dwell in poverty |
All the dwellers at |
It is you who are that
poverty |
This man (Judas Iscariot)
purchased a field with the reward of iniquity |
|
|
(4) Jesus said, "The man old in days will not hesitate
to ask a small child seven days old
about the place of life, and he
will live. For many who are first will become last,
and they will become one and the same." |
[2:4] And they
were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began
to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. |
|
|
The man old in days |
Jews, devout men |
Hesitate to ask |
Began to
speak... utterance... heard them speak... saying one to
another... speak... we do hear them speak in our
tongues... saying one to another |
A small child seven
days old |
Every nation under heaven |
The place of life |
They were all filled with
the Holy Ghost... dwelling at |
He will live |
They were all amazed and marvelled... we were born... they were
all amazed |
For many who are first
will become last |
Jews, devout
men... every nation under heaven |
And they will become one
and the same |
And they were all amazed
and marvelled, saying one to another...
and they were all amazed... saying one to another |
|
|
(5) Jesus said, "Recognize what is in your sight, and that which is hidden from you will become plain to you.
For there is nothing hidden which will not become
manifest." |
[2:14] But Peter,
standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them,
Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at
Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken
to my words: |
|
|
Recognize |
Be this known unto you |
What is in your sight |
Seeing it |
That which is hidden |
I will pour out of my
Spirit upon all flesh... I will pour out in those days of my Spirit |
Will
become... will... become |
It shall come to pass in
the last days |
An that which is hidden
from you will become plain to you |
And your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and
your old men shall dream dreams: [2:18] And on my servants and on my
handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall
prophesy |
For there is nothing
hidden which will not become manifest |
I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the
earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour
of smoke |
|
|
(6) His disciples
questioned him and said to him, "Do you want us to fast?
How shall we pray? Shall
we give alms? What diet shall we observe?" |
[2:20] The
sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood,
before that great and notable day of the Lord come: |
|
|
Do you want us to fast |
The fruit of his loins |
How shall we pray |
Call on the name of the
Lord |
Shall we give alms |
Him, being delivered by
the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by
wicked hands... because it was not possible that he should be holden of it... |
What diet |
My tongue... the
fruit of his loins |
We observe |
Wonders and
signs... I foresaw the Lord always before my face... neither
wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see
corruption |
Do not tell lies |
Thou hast made known to
me the ways of life... let me freely speak unto you of the
patriarch David... God had sworn with an oath to him... he...
spake of the resurrection of Christ |
Do not do what you hate |
Because thou wilt not
leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption |
All things are plain |
Thou hast made known to
me the ways of life |
The sight of heaven |
Him, being delivered by
the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God... He seeing
this |
Nothing hidden... |
The sun shall be turned
into darkness... miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by
him in the midst of you... the pains of death... my soul in
hell...he is both dead and buried |
Remain |
I should not be
moved... his (David's) |
Become manifest... |
I foresaw the Lord always
before my face... being a prophet, and knowing... we all are
witnesses |
|
|
(7) Jesus said, "Blessed is the lion which becomes
man when consumed by man; and cursed is
the man whom the lion consumes, and the lion
becomes man." |
[2:33]
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having
received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath
shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. |
|
|
Blessed is the lion |
( Ye men of |
Becomes man when consumed
by man |
The LORD said unto my
Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, until I make thy foes thy
footstool... they were pricked in their heart... Repent, and
be baptized every one of you |
Cursed is the man whom
the lion consumes |
Jesus, whom ye have
crucified |
The lion becomes man |
God hath
made... both Lord and Christ... Repent, and be baptized every
one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins |
|
|
(8) And he said, "The man is like a wise fisherman who cast
his net into the sea and drew it up from the sea
full of small fish. Among
them the wise fisherman found a fine large fish. He threw all the
small fish back into the sea and chose the large fish without difficulty. Whoever has
ears to hear, let him hear." |
[2:39] For
the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to
all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord
our God shall call. |
|
|
The man is like a wise
fisherman... the wise fisherman |
God... the Lord |
Cast his net |
The Lord our God shall
call |
Into the sea and drew it
up from the sea |
Were baptized |
Small fish... small
fish |
You, and to your
children, and to all that are afar off... they that gladly
received his word... about three thousand souls |
Among them |
Save yourselves from this
untoward generation... from his mother's womb |
A fine large
fish... the large fish |
The apostles... the
apostles... Peter and John... Peter and John... Peter |
Chose... without
difficulty |
The Lord added to the
church daily such as should be saved |
Whoever has ears to hear,
let him hear |
Whom they laid daily at
the gate of the temple... Who seeing Peter and John about to go into
the temple... He gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of
them |
|
|
(9) Jesus said, "Now the sower
went out, took a handful
(of seeds), and scattered them. Some fell on
the road; the birds came and gathered them up.
Others fell on the rock, did
not take root in the soil, and did not produce
ears. And others fell
on thorns; they choked the seed(s) and worms
ate them. And others fell on the good soil and
it produced good fruit: it bore sixty per
measure and a hundred and twenty per measure." |
[3:6] Then
Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have
give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of |
|
|
Now |
Then... immediately...
when... when... now... when |
The sower |
Jesus Christ of |
Now the sower went out |
Then Peter
said... when Peter saw it, he answered unto the
people... when the times of refreshing shall come from the
presence of the Lord |
Went out |
Rise up and
walk... his feet and ancle bones
received strength... him walking |
Took a handful (of
seeds), and scattered them |
Took him by the right
hand, and lifted him up |
Some fell on the road |
The Beautiful gate of the
temple... the porch that is called Solomon's |
The birds came and
gathered them up |
All the people ran
together unto them... this man to walk |
Others fell on the rock |
The porch that is called
Solomon's |
Did not take root in the
soil |
This perfect soundness in
the presence of you all |
And did not produce ears |
They were filled with
wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him |
And others
fell on thorns; they choked the seed(s) and worms ate them |
But ye denied the Holy
One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; And
killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead |
Others fell on the good
soil and it produced good fruit |
The faith which is by him
hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all |
It bore sixty per measure
and a hundred and twenty per measure |
The times of refreshing
shall come from the presence of the Lord... which before was
preached unto you |
|
|
(10) Jesus said, "I have cast fire upon the world,
and see, I am guarding it until
it blazes." |
[3:21] Whom the heaven must receive until
the times of restitution of all things, which God
hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since
the world began. |
|
|
I have cast fire |
God hath
spoken... the prophets... have spoken, have likewise
foretold... A prophet... shall say unto you |
Upon the world |
Since the world began |
See |
Hear... hear |
I am guarding it |
(Jesus Christ)
Whom the heaven must receive |
Until it blazes |
Until the times of
restitution of all things... it shall come to pass |
|
|
(11) Jesus said, "This heaven will pass away, and the
one above it will pass away. The dead are not
alive, and the living will not die. |
[3:25] Ye are the
children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our
fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. |
|
|
This heaven will pass away |
The earth be blessed |
The one above it |
First God, having raised
up his Son Jesus |
The dead are not alive,
and the living will not die |
The resurrection from the
dead |
In the days when you
consumed what is dead, you made it what is alive |
They... preached through
Jesus the resurrection from the dead |
When you come to dwell in
the light, what will you do? |
They laid hands on them,
and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now
eventide... it came to pass on the morrow... they asked, By
what power, or by what name, have ye done this? |
On the day when you were
one you became two |
If we this day be examined... If we this day be examined |
When you become two, what
will you do? |
The good deed done to the
impotent man... by the name of Jesus Christ of |
|
|
|
[4:11] This
is the stone which was set at nought of
you builders, which is become the head of the corner. |
|
|
We know |
They... perceived that
they were unlearned and ignorant men |
We know that you will
depart from us |
They took knowledge of
them, that they had been with Jesus |
Who is to be our leader |
This is the stone which
was set at nought of you builders, which
is become the head of the corner |
Wherever you are, you are
to go to James the righteous |
They had commanded them
to go aside out of the council, they conferred among
themselves... all them that dwell in |
For whose sake heaven and
earth came into being |
There is none other name
under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved |
|
|
(13) Jesus said to his
disciples, "Compare me to someone and
tell me whom I am like." |
[4:20] For we
cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. |
|
|
Compare me to someone |
The man was above forty
years old |
And tell me whom I am like |
We cannot but speak the
things which we have seen and heard... reported all that the chief
priests and elders had said... and said, Lord, thou art God, which
hast made heaven, and earth... Who by the mouth of thy servant
David |
Whom I am like |
Who by the mouth of thy
servant David... whom thou hast anointed... who by the apostles |
You are like a righteous
angel |
Thy holy child
Jesus...the Holy Ghost |
You are like a wise
philosopher |
With one
accord... the rulers were gathered together... both Herod,
and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were
gathered together... the multitude of them that believed were of
one heart and of one soul... they had all things
common... kept back part... and brought a certain
part... they were all with one accord... And of the rest
durst no man join himself to them |
Master |
The chief priests and
elders... The kings... the Lord... Lord... the Lord
Jesus... God... the Spirit of the Lord |
My mouth is wholly
incapable of saying whom you are like |
Grant unto thy servants,
that with all boldness they may speak thy word... they were all
filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake
the word of God with boldness... neither said any of them… And
with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the
Lord Jesus |
I am not your master |
The kings of the earth
stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and
against his Christ |
Because you have drunk,
you have become intoxicated from the bubbling spring which I have
measured out |
They were all filled with
the Holy Ghost |
And he took him and
withdrew and told him three things |
And the young men arose,
wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him… And it was about the
space of three hours after… the feet of them which have buried thy
husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out |
When Thomas returned to
his companions, they asked him, "What did Jesus say to you |
And when they heard that,
they lifted up their voice to God |
If I tell you one of the
things which he told me, you will pick up stones and throw them at me |
For as many as were
possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the
things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet… Having
land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles'
feet… and laid it at the apostles' feet… Solomon's porch |
A fire will come out of
the stones and burn you up |
How is it that ye have
agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord… and yielded up the
ghost |
|
|
(14) Jesus said to them, "If you fast, you will give rise to
sin for yourselves; and if you pray, you will
be condemned; and if you give alms, you will do harm to your spirits. When
you go into any land and walk about in the districts, if they receive you, eat what they
will set before you, and heal the sick among
them. For what goes into your mouth will not
defile you, but that which issues from your
mouth - it is that which will defile you." |
[5:14] And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes
both of men and women.) |
|
|
If you fast… eat what
they will set before you… For what goes into your mouth will not defile
you |
And were filled with
indignation… ye have filled |
You will give rise to sin
for yourselves |
And laid them on beds and
couches |
And if you pray, you will
be condemned |
And intend to bring this
man's blood upon us… whom ye slew and hanged on a tree |
And if you give alms |
And laid their hands on
the apostles |
You will do harm to your
spirits |
And them which were vexed
with unclean spirits… and brought them without violence… lest they
should have been stoned |
When you go into any land
and walk about in the districts |
That at the least the
shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them… Go, stand and
speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life… And when
they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning...
the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple… the men whom
ye put in prison are standing in the temple |
If they receive you |
And believers were the
more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women… There came
also a multitude out of the cities round about unto |
Eat what they will set
before you… For what goes into your mouth will not defile you |
Saying, The prison truly
found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before
the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within… Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in
this name |
And heal the sick among
them |
Bringing sick folks… and
they were healed every one |
But that which issues
from your mouth |
Saying, The prison truly
found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before
the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within… and teaching
the people… Did not we straitly command
you that ye should not teach in this name |
It is that which will
defile you |
They doubted of them
whereunto this would grow... for they feared the people |
|
|
(15) Jesus said, "When you see one who was not born of woman, prostrate yourselves on your faces
and worship him. That one is your father." |
[5:31] Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give
repentance to |
|
|
When you see one who was
not born of woman… That one is your father |
God exalted with his
right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour…
the Holy Ghost, whom God Then… When they heard that, they were cut to
the heart… one in the council |
Prostrate yourselves |
Give repentance to |
On your faces and worship
him |
Had in reputation among
all the people |
|
|
(16) Jesus said, "Men think, perhaps, that it is
peace which I have come to cast upon the world.
They do not know that it is dissension
which I have come to cast upon the earth: fire, sword, and war. For there
will be five in a house: three will be against two, and two against
three, the father against the son, and the son
against the father. And they will stand solitary." |
to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined
themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as
obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. |
|
|
Men think, perhaps |
Men … Refrain from these
men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it
will come to nought… It is not reason that
we should leave the word of God, and serve tables… men of honest report |
That it is peace… They do
not know that it is dissension |
Joined themselves…
rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name…
there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews |
I have come to cast upon
the world… I have come to cast upon the earth |
As many as obeyed him,
were scattered… even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed… they laid
their hands on them |
Fire, sword, and war |
They ceased not to teach
and preach Jesus Christ… he also perished… But we will give ourselves
continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word… And the word of
God increased |
For there will be five in
a house: three will be against two, and two against three |
A number… about four
hundred… and drew away much people after him… lest haply ye be found
even to fight against God… the number of the disciples was multiplied…
and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly |
The father against the
son, and the son against the father |
When they had called the
apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in
the name of Jesus … because their widows were neglected in the daily
ministration |
And they will stand
solitary |
joined
themselves… if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it… the twelve called
the multitude of the disciples unto them… And the saying pleased the
whole multitude… and a great company of the priests were obedient to
the faith |
|
|
(17) Jesus said, "I shall give you what no eye has
seen and what no ear has heard and what no hand has touched and what
has never occurred to the human mind." |
[6:8] And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great
wonders and miracles among the people. |
|
|
I shall give you |
Stephen, full of faith
and power… shall change the customs which Moses delivered us |
What no eye has seen |
Great wonders and
miracles among the people |
What no ear has heard |
We have heard him speak
blasphemous words against Moses, and
against God… This man ceaseth not to speak
blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law… we have heard
him say, that this Jesus of |
What no hand has touched |
The people, and the
elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought
him to the council |
What has never occurred
to the human mind |
And they were not able to
resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake |
|
|
(18) The disciples said
to Jesus, "Tell us how our end will be." |
[6:15] And all that sat
in the council, looking stedfastly
on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel. |
|
|
Tell us how our end will
be… that you look for the end… there will the end be… he will know the
end |
Looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been
the face of an angel… I shall shew thee…
yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession… after
that shall they come forth… but God was with him… And delivered him out
of all his afflictions, and gave him favour
and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt |
Have you discovered,
then, the beginning… For where the beginning is… in the beginning |
The God of glory appeared
unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in
Charran |
Blessed is he who will
take his place |
Get thee out of thy
country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land… and serve me in
this place… over |
And will not experience
death |
And he made him governor |
|
|
(19) Jesus said, "Blessed is he who came into being before he came into being.
If you become my disciples and listen to my words,
these stones will minister to you. For there are five trees for you
in Paradise which remain undisturbed summer and winter and whose
leaves do not fall. Whoever becomes acquainted
with them will not experience death." |
[7:11] Now
there came a dearth over all the |
|
|
Blessed is he who came
into being before he came into being |
When Jacob heard (C.f. “James” in the
Greek is the equivalent of “Jacob” in the Hebrew. James
or Jacob became |
If you become my
disciples and listen to my words… Whoever becomes acquainted with them |
Made known to his
brethren… But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had
sworn to Abraham… another king arose, which knew… learned in all the
wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.. it came into his heart to visit his brethren
the children of |
These stones will
minister to you |
Our fathers found no
sustenance… there was corn… he, and our fathers… the sepulcher… bought
for a sum of money… and nourished him for her own son |
For there are five trees |
Joseph … Joseph… Jacob …
Jacob… Abraham… Joseph… Moses… Moses… the children of |
For you in Paradise |
Now there came a dearth
over all the |
Remain undisturbed summer
and winter |
In which time… three
months… … And when he was cast out … And when he was full forty years
old |
Whose leaves do not fall |
And nourished up…
Pharaoh's daughter took him up |
Not experience death |
And died… The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated
our fathers… to the end they might not live… And seeing one of them
suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and
smote the Egyptian |
|
|
(20) The disciples said
to Jesus, "Tell us what the kingdom of heaven is like." |
[7:25] For he
supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand
would deliver them: but they understood not. |
|
|
Tell us what the kingdom
of heaven is like |
He supposed his brethren
would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them… why
do ye wrong one to another… Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us…
in the |
It is like a mustard
seed. It is the smallest of all seeds |
He shewed
himself unto them… Moses… Moses… Moses |
But when it falls on
tilled soil |
Wilt thou kill me, as
thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday |
It produces a great plant |
The place where thou standest is holy ground… |
Becomes a shelter for
birds of the sky |
An angel of the Lord in a
flame of fire in a bush |
|
|
(21) Mary said to Jesus, "Whom are your disciples like?" |
[7:34] I have seen, I have seen the
affliction of my people which is in
|
|
|
Whom are
your disciples like… They are like children |
My people… the children
of |
Settled in a field… the
field… our field… their field |
In |
When the owners… come,
they will say |
This Moses whom they
refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge |
Let us have back… let us
have back… and to give it back to them |
Moses, which brought us
out… Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven |
They (will) undress in
their presence |
The witnesses laid down
their clothes at a young man's feet… his burial |
If the owner of a house
knows… into his house of his domain |
O ye house of |
The thief is coming |
Yea, ye took up the
tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan… Our fathers that came after |
He will begin his vigil
before he comes and will not let him dig through |
Whom God drave out before the face of our fathers |
Carry away his goods |
Heaven is my throne, and
earth is my footstool |
You, then, be on your
guard against the world |
Ye stiffnecked
and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy
Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye |
Arm yourselves with great
strength |
When they heard these
things, they were cut to the heart… And he kneeled down, and cried with
a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge |
The robbers find a way to
come to you |
Of whom ye have been now
the betrayers and murderers. Who have received the law by the
disposition of angels, and have not kept it |
For the difficulty which
you expect will (surely) materialize |
Which of the prophets
have not your fathers persecuted? and they
have slain them… and they gnashed on him with their teeth… And Saul was
consenting unto his death… a great persecution against the church which
was at |
Let there be among you a
man of understanding |
But he, being full of the
Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into
heaven… Behold, I see the heavens opened… Stephen… Then Philip went
down to the city of Samaria |
When the grain ripened |
At that time… they were
all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea
and |
He came quickly with his
sickle in his hand |
The coming of the Just
One… Jesus standing on the right hand of God… and the Son of man
standing on the right hand of God |
Reaped it |
And cast him out of the
city, and stoned him… he fell asleep |
Whoever has ears to hear,
let him hear |
Therefore they that were
scattered abroad went every where preaching the word… and preached
Christ unto them… And the people with one accord gave heed unto those
things which Philip spake, hearing and
seeing the miracles which he did |
|
|
(22) Jesus
saw infants being suckled. He said to his disciples, "These infants being suckled are like those who enter the
kingdom." |
[8:7] For
unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were
possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame,
were healed. |
|
|
Jesus saw infants being
suckled… These infants being suckled are like those who enter the
kingdom |
For unclean spirits,
crying with loud voice, came out of many
that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that
were lame, were healed… And there was great joy in that city… from the
least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God |
Shall we then, as
children, enter the kingdom |
When they believed Philip
preaching the things concerning the |
When you make the two one |
Now when the apostles which were at ( |
And when you make the
inside like the outside and the outside like the inside |
Only they were baptized
in the name of the Lord Jesus… Then laid they
their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost… And when Simon
saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was
given… Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if
perhaps the thought of thine heart may be
forgiven thee |
And the above like the
below |
Who, when they were come
down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as
yet he was fallen upon none of them |
And when you make the
male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor
the female female |
Both men and women… a man
of |
And when you fashion eyes
in the place of an eye |
He offered them money…
Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of
God may be purchased with money |
And a hand in place of a
hand |
Give me also this power,
that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost |
And a foot in place of a
foot |
Arise, and go toward the
south unto the way that goeth down from |
And a likeness in place
of a likeness |
Who had the charge of all
her treasure (Likenesses and images
appear on money) |
Then will you enter the
kingdom |
How can
I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that
he would come up and sit with him… And Philip ran thither to him… The
place of the scripture |

|
(23) Jesus said, "I shall choose you, one out of a
thousand, and two out of ten thousand, and they shall stand as a single one." |
He was led as a sheep to the slaughter;
and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: |
|
|
I shall choose you |
He was led as a sheep to
the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he
not his mouth |
One out of a thousand |
In his humiliation his
judgment was taken away… for his life is taken from the earth |
And two out of ten
thousand |
Of whom
speaketh the prophet this? of
himself, or of some other man |
And they shall stand as a
single one |
And preached unto him
Jesus… they came unto a certain water… See,
here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized |
|
|
(24) His disciples said
to him, "Show us the place where you are, since it is necessary for us to seek it." |
[8:37] And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.
And he answered and said, I
believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. |
|
|
Show us the place where
you are |
If thou believest with all thine
heart… I believe that Jesus Christ is the
Son of God… and they went down both into the water… and he baptized him
|
Since it is necessary for
us to seek it |
The Spirit of the Lord
caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more |
Whoever has ears, let him
hear |
He preached in all the
cities… and heard a voice saying unto him |
There is light within a
man of light |
There shined round about
him a light from heaven… I am Jesus whom thou persecutest |
And he lights up the
whole world |
And he fell to the earth…
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me |
If he does not shine, he
is darkness |
Lord, what wilt thou have
me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and
it shall be told thee what thou must do |
|
|
(25) Jesus said, "Love your brother like your soul, guard him
like the pupil of your eye." |
[9:7] And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless,
hearing a voice, but seeing no man. |
|
|
Love your brother like
your soul |
But they led him by the
hand, and brought him into |
Guard him |
And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless… And
Saul arose from the earth… and neither did eat nor drink |
Like the pupil of your eye |
Seeing no man… and when
his eyes were opened, he saw no man… and to him said the Lord in a
vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am
here, Lord |
|
|
(26) Jesus said, "You see the mote in your brother's eye, but you do not see
the beam in your own eye. When you cast the
beam out of your own eye, then you will see
clearly to cast the mote from your brother's eye." |
[9:11] And
the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called
Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of
Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, |
|
|
You see the mote in your
brother's eye, but you do not see the beam in your own eye |
Lord, I have heard by
many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at |
When you cast the beam
out of your own eye |
But the Lord said unto
him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name
before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of |
Then you will see clearly |
For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my
name's sake… And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been
scales: and he received sight forthwith |
Cast the mote from your
brother's eye |
And hath seen in a vision
a man named Ananias coming in, and putting
his hand on him, that he might receive his sight… and putting his hands
on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto
thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent
me, that thou mightest receive thy sight |
|
|
(27) <Jesus said,> "If you do not fast as regards the
world, you will not find the kingdom. If you do not observe the Sabbath as a Sabbath, you will not see the father." |
[9:19] And
when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul
certain days with the disciples which were at |
|
|
If you do not fast |
And when he had received
meat, he was strengthened |
As regards the world |
The synagogues… the chief
priests |
You will not find the
kingdom |
And straightway he
preached Christ… that he is the Son of God… them which called on this
name in |
If you do not observe the
Sabbath as a Sabbath |
But Saul increased the
more in strength |
You will not see the
father |
The Jews took counsel to
kill him: But their laying await was known
of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him |
|
|
(28) Jesus said, "I took my place in the midst of
the world, and I appeared to them in flesh.
I found all of them intoxicated; I found none of
them thirsty. And my soul became afflicted for
the sons of men, because they are blind in
their hearts and do not have sight; for empty
they came into the world, and empty too they seek to leave the world.
But for the moment they are intoxicated. When they shake off their wine, then they will repent." |
[9:25] Then the
disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a
basket. |
|
|
I took my place |
The disciples took him by
night |
In the midst of the world |
|
I appeared to them in
flesh |
He had seen the Lord in
the way |
I found all of them
intoxicated; I found none of them thirsty |
He assayed to join
himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed
not that he was a disciple |
And my soul became
afflicted for the sons of men |
And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and
disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him |
Because they are blind in
their hearts and do not have sight |
Which when the brethren
knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to |
For empty they came into
the world, and empty too they seek to leave the world |
And it came to pass in
those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed,
they laid her in an upper chamber… When he was come, they brought him
into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them |
But for the moment they
are intoxicated |
And there he found a
certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was
sick of the palsy |
When they shake off their
wine, then they will repent |
And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw
him, and turned to the Lord |
|
|
(29) Jesus said, "If the flesh came into being because of spirit, it is a wonder. But if spirit came
into being because of the body, it is a wonder of wonders. Indeed, I
am amazed at how this great wealth has made its
home in this poverty." |
[9:40] But
Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and
turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise.
And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter,
she sat up. |
|
|
If the flesh came into
being because of spirit |
Tabitha, arise… she sat up ( |
It is a wonder… it is a
wonder of wonders |
And she opened her eyes:
and when she saw… And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said,
What is it, Lord |
But if spirit came into
being |
An angel of God coming in
to him |
Because of the body |
And turning him to the
body |
I am amazed at how this
great wealth |
Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God |
Made its home in this
poverty |
He lodgeth
with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side |
|
|
(30) Jesus said, "Where there are three gods, they are gods. Where there are two or one, I am
with him." |
[10:7] And when the angel which spake unto
Cornelius was departed, he called two of his
household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on
him continually; |
|
|
Where there are three
gods, they are gods |
The angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed… Peter went up
upon the housetop to pray |
Where there are two or one |
He called two of his
household servants |
I am with him |
As they went on their
journey, and drew nigh unto the city |
|
|
(31) Jesus said, "No prophet is accepted in his own
village; no physician heals those
who know him." |
[10:10]
And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they
made ready, he fell into a trance, |
|
|
No prophet is accepted |
He fell into a trance,
And saw heaven opened… And there came a
voice to him |
His own village |
As it had been a great
sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth |
No physician heals |
Rise, Peter; kill, and eat |
Those who know him |
Peter said, Not so, Lord;
for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean |
|
|
(32) Jesus said, "A city being built on a high mountain and fortified cannot fall, nor can it
be hidden." |
[10:15] And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. |
|
|
A city being built on a
high mountain |
What God hath cleansed…
the vessel was received up again into heaven |
Fortified cannot fall |
Simon's house, and stood
before the gate |
Nor can it be hidden |
Peter doubted in himself
what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which
were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry |
|
|
(33) Jesus said, "Preach from your housetops that which
you will hear in your ear. For no one lights a
lamp and puts it under a bushel, nor does he
put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it
on a lampstand so that everyone
who enters and leaves will see its light." |
[10:18]
And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed
Peter, were lodged there. |
|
|
Preach from your housetops |
And asked whether Simon,
which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there… and get thee down… Then
Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius… was
warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house |
Which you will hear in
your ear |
And to hear words of thee |
For no one lights a lamp
and puts it under a bushel |
And the morrow after they
entered into |
Nor does he put it in a
hidden place |
And of good report among
all the nation of the Jews |
But rather he sets it on
a lampstand |
Arise therefore… and fell
down at his feet … Stand up; I myself also am a man |
Everyone who enters and
leaves |
Ye know how that it is an
unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto
one of another nation |
See its light |
God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common
or unclean |
|
|
(34) Jesus said, "If a blind man leads a blind man, they
will both fall into a pit." |
[10:30] And Cornelius
said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth
hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood
before me in bright clothing, |
|
|
If a blind man leads a
blind man |
Cornelius, thy prayer is
heard, and thine alms are had in
remembrance in the sight of God |
They will both fall into
a pit |
I prayed in my house,
and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing |
|
|
(35) Jesus said, "It is not possible for anyone to enter the
house of a strong man and take it by force
unless he binds his hands; then
he will (be able to) ransack his house." |
[10:32b] he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side:
who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee. |
|
|
It is not possible for
anyone to enter |
Therefore I sent to thee;
and thou hast well done that thou art come |
The house of a strong man |
The house of one Simon a
tanner by the sea side |
Take it by force |
We all here present
before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God |
Unless he binds his hands |
Of a truth I perceive
that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh
righteousness, is accepted with him… That word, I say, ye know, which
was published throughout all Judaea, and
began from Galilee |
Then he will (be able to)
ransack his house |
God sent unto the
children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all |

|
(36) Jesus said, "Do not be concerned from morning
until evening and from evening until morning about
what you will wear." |
[10:38]
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost
and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was
with him. |
|
|
Do not be concerned |
All that were oppressed
of the devil… dead |
Morning until evening and
from evening until morning |
Him God raised up the
third day |
About what you will wear |
God anointed Jesus of |

(37) His disciples said, "When will you become revealed to us and when shall we see
you?" |
[10:43] To
him give all the prophets witness, that through his name
whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. |
|
|
When will you become
revealed to us and when shall we see you |
To him give all the
prophets witness… While Peter yet spake
these words… And they… which believed were astonished… For they heard
them speak with tongues (Manifestation) |
When you disrobe without
being ashamed |
And he commanded them to
be baptized in the name of the Lord (Baptism: Putting off the
body of the sins of the flesh, Colossians 2:11) |
Take up your garments |
Can any man forbid water,
that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost
as well as we… the Gentiles had also received the word of God |
Place them under your
feet like little children and tread on them |
They that were of the
circumcision contended with him, Saying, Thou wentest
in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. But Peter rehearsed
the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them |
Then will you see the son
of the living one |
And in a trance I saw a
vision… fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw |
You will not be afraid |
Fourfooted beasts
of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the
air… Arise, Peter; slay and eat |
|
|
(38) Jesus said, "Many times have you desired to hear
these words which I am saying to you, and you
have no one else to hear them from. There will
be days when you will look for me and will not find me." |
[11:9] But
the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that
call not thou common. |
|
|
Many times have you
desired |
And this was done three
times |
Hear these words which I
am saying to you |
But the voice answered me
again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common |
And you have no one else
to hear them from |
And the spirit bade me go
with them… and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; Who shall tell
thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved |
There will be days when
you will look for me and will not find me |
And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house…
And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the
beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord |
|
|
(39) Jesus said, "The pharisees and the scribes
have taken the keys of knowledge (gnosis) and hidden
them. They themselves have not entered, nor
have they allowed to enter those who wish to.
You, however, be as wise as serpents and as
innocent as doves." |
[11:17]
Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who
believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I
could withstand God? |
|
|
The pharisees
and the scribes |
What was I, that I could
withstand God |
Taken the keys of
knowledge (gnosis) and hidden them |
They which were scattered
abroad upon the persecution that arose… And the hand of the Lord was
with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord |
They themselves have not
entered, nor have they allowed to enter those who wish to |
Who… exhorted them all,
that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord |
You, however, be as wise
as serpents and as innocent as doves |

(40) Jesus said, "A grapevine has been planted outside of the father,
but being unsound, it will
be pulled up by its roots and destroyed." |
[11:27] And in these days
came prophets from |
|
|
A grapevine has been
planted outside of the father |

But being unsound |
Claudius Caesar |
It will be pulled up by
its roots and destroyed |
Herod the king stretched
forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the
brother of John with the sword |

|
(41) Jesus said, "Whoever has something in his hand will receive more,
and whoever has nothing will be deprived of even
the little he has." |
[12:3] And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded
further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened
bread.) |
|
|
Whoever has something in
his hand will receive more |
(Herod killed James) And because he saw it
pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also… when he had
apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him |
And whoever has nothing
will be deprived of even the little he has |
Herod would have brought
him forth… Peter was sleeping between two soldiers… And his chains fell
off from his hands |

(42) Jesus said, "Become passers-by." |
[12:8] And
the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy
sandals. And so he did. And he saith
unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. |
|
|
Become passers-by |
Bind on thy sandals… and
follow me… And he went out, and followed him |
|
|
(43) His disciples said
to him, "Who are you, that
you should say these things to us?" |
[12:10] When they were
past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of
his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street;
and forthwith the angel departed from him. |
|
|
Who are you, that you
should say these things to us |
And when Peter was come
to himself, he said, Now I know of a
surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of
the hand of Herod… And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the
gate for gladness |
You do not realize who I
am from what I say to you |
And when he had
considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John…
Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then
said they, It is his angel. But Peter continued knocking: and when they
had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished |
But you have become like
the Jews, for they (either) love the tree and hate its fruit (or) love
the fruit and hate the tree |
Peace… Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren (The Greek name James is

father will be forgiven, and
whoever blasphemes against the son will be forgiven, but whoever
blasphemes against the holy spirit will not be forgiven either on

examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be
put to death. And he went down from Judaea

Herod… Herod… sat upon
his throne |
Will be forgiven… will be

But they came with one
accord to him… desired peace |
Against the holy spirit |
And immediately the angel
of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory… and gave up
the ghost |

And commanded that they
should be put to death… and he was eaten of worms |

(45) Jesus said, "Grapes are not harvested from thorns, nor are figs
gathered from thistles, for they do not produce
fruit. A good man brings forth good from his
storehouse; an evil man brings forth evil
things from his evil storehouse, which is in
his heart, and says evil things. For out of the
abundance of the heart he brings forth evil things." |
[13:1] Now
there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and
teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene,
and Manaen, which had been brought
up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. |

|
Grapes are not harvested
from thorns, nor are figs gathered from thistles |
Separate me Barnabas and
Saul for the work whereunto I have called them |
For they do not produce
fruit |
Now there were in the
church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas,

of Cyrene, and Manaen |
A good man brings forth
good from his storehouse |
They preached the word of

An evil man brings forth
evil things from his evil storehouse |
The synagogues of the
Jews… they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name
was Bar-jesus… But Elymas

Which is in his heart,
and says evil things |
Withstood them, seeking
to turn away the deputy from the faith |
For out of the abundance
of the heart he brings forth evil things |
O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the
devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert
the right ways of the Lord |

(46) Jesus said, "Among those born of women, from Adam until John the Baptist,
there is no one so superior to John the Baptist
that his eyes should not be lowered (before him). Yet I have said, whichever one of you comes
to be a child will be acquainted with the
kingdom and will become superior to John." |
[13:12] Then
the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at
the doctrine of the Lord. |

(47) Jesus said, "It is impossible for a man to mount two horses or to
stretch two bows. And it is impossible for a
servant to serve two masters; otherwise, he
will honor the one and treat the other contemptuously. No man drinks old wine and immediately desires to drink
new wine. And new wine is not put into old

It is impossible for a
man to mount two horses or to stretch two bows |
Of this man's seed hath
God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour,
Jesus |
It is impossible for a
man to mount two horses or to stretch two bows |
And as John fulfilled his
course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I
am not he |
Otherwise, he will honor
the one and treat the other contemptuously |
But, behold, there cometh
one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose… And he
was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to |
No man drinks old wine
and immediately desires to drink new wine |
Men and brethren,
children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this
salvation sent… nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every
sabbath day |
And new wine is not put
into old wineskins, lest they burst |
They have fulfilled them
in condemning him. And though they found no cause of death in him, yet
desired they Pilate that he should be
slain. And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they
took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulcher… God hath
fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up
Jesus again |
Nor is old wine put into
a new wineskin, lest it spoil it |
And as concerning that he
raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he
said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. Wherefore
he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine
Holy One to see corruption. For David, after he had served his own
generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his
fathers, and saw corruption |
An old patch is not sewn
onto a new garment, because a tear would result |
Be it known unto you
therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you
the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from
all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses |

(48) Jesus said, "If two make peace with each other in this one house,
they will say to the mountain, 'Move
Away,' and it will move away." |
[13:40]
Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is
spoken of in the prophets; |
|

If two make peace with
each other in this one house |
And when the Jews were
gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might
be preached to them the next sabbath. Now
when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious
proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas… But when the Jews saw the
multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake
against… contradicting and blaspheming |
They will say to the
mountain |
That come upon you, which
is spoken of in the prophets… though a man declare
it unto you… who, speaking to them… those things which were spoken by
Paul… Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary
that the word of God should first have been spoken to you |
'Move Away,' and it will
move away |
Behold, ye despisers, and
wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye
shall in no wise believe… persuaded them to
continue in the grace of God. And the next sabbath
day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God |

(49) Jesus said, "Blessed are the solitary and elect, for
you will find the kingdom. For you are from it,
and to it you will return." |
but seeing ye put it from you, and judge
yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. |

|
Blessed are the solitary
and elect |
Lo, we turn to the
Gentiles… I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the
earth. And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad |
For you will find the
kingdom… and to it you will return |
And as many as were
ordained to eternal life believed… Barnabas

rest,” The Greek Manuscript of Thomas 2 ) |
For you are from it |
But seeing ye put it from
you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life… the Jews…
raised persecution… and expelled them out of their coasts |

(50) Jesus said, "If they
say to you, 'Where did you come from?', say to them, 'We came from the
light, the place where the light came into being on its own accord
and established itself and became manifest through
their image.' If they say to you, 'Is it you?', say, 'We are its children, we
are the elect of the living father.' If they ask you, 'What is the sign of your father in you?', say to them, 'It is movement
and repose.'" |
[13:51] But
they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium. |

Where did you come from |
But they shook off the
dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium…
Paul, Mercurius (Is this saying pointing
to the afterlife? In Greek Mytholgy “ Mercury serves as the guide of the souls of the
underworld as a bridge between the upper and lower worlds,” Wikipedia. ) |
We came from the light,
the place where the light came into being on its own accord |
Long time therefore abode
they speaking boldly in the Lord,
which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and
wonders to be done by their hands. But the multitude of the city was
divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles |
Established itself and
became manifest through their image |
And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue
of the Jews, and so spake, that a great
multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed… Derbe ( In Greek Iconium: = “Little Image” and Derbe = “Covered
with Skin” ) |
Is it you |
And when there was an
assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their
rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them |
We are its children, we
are the elect of the living father |
And there they preached
the gospel… The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And
they called Barnabas, Jupiter

What is the sign of your
father in you |
And when the people saw
what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices |
It is movement and repose |
Stand upright on thy

heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying
out, [14:15] And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things |

(51) His disciples said
to him, "When will the repose of the dead come about,
and when will the new world come?" |
We also are men of like
passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should
turn from these vanities unto the living God, which
made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: |
|
|
When will the repose of
the dead come about |
Preach unto you that ye
should turn from these vanities unto the living God… Who in times past
suffered all nations to walk in their own ways |
And when will the new
world come |
Which made heaven, and
earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein… and gave us rain
from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and
gladness |
What you look forward to
has already come |

stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city… And when
they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they

the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we

you |
They had ordained them
elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended
them to the Lord, on whom they believed |
You have omitted the one
living in your presence |
From whence they had been
recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled… and
had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done
with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles |

therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation
with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of
them, should go up to |

Is circumcision
beneficial or not |
When therefore Paul and
Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they
determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go
up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question… And
the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.
And when there had been much disputing |

God made choice among us,
that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and
believe. And God, which knoweth the
hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did
unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their
hearts by faith |

(54) Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor, for yours is
the kingdom of heaven." |
[15:10]
Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the
neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to
bear? |
|
|
Blessed are the poor |
Why tempt ye God, to put
a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we
were able to bear |
For yours is the kingdom

We believe that through
the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they…
what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them |

(55) Jesus said, "Whoever does not hate his father and his mother cannot become a disciple to me. And
whoever does not hate his brothers and sisters and take
up his cross in my way will not be worthy of me." |
[15:13] And after they
had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and
brethren, hearken unto me: |
|
|
Whoever does not hate his
father and his mother |
Men and brethren, hearken
unto me… Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name… And to
this agree the words of the prophets |
Cannot become a disciple
to me |
I will return… That the
residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon
whom my name is called, saith the Lord |
And whoever does not hate
his brothers and sisters |
Wherefore my sentence is,
that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to
God |
Take up his cross in my
way will not be worthy of me |
But that we write unto
them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication,
and from things strangled, and from blood |
|
|
(56) Jesus said, "Whoever has come to understand the world has found (only) a corpse, and whoever has found a corpse
is superior to the world." |
[15:21] For
Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read
in the synagogues every sabbath day. |
|
|
Whoever has come to
understand the world |
For Moses of old time
hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues
every sabbath day… Paul and Barnabas;
namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and
Silas, chief men among the brethren |
Found (only) a corpse,
and whoever has found a corpse |
Certain which went out
from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye
must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such
commandment |
|
The whole church, to send
chosen men of their own company… being assembled with one accord, to
send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul |

(57) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a man who had good seed.
His enemy came by night and sowed weeds among the
good seed. The man did not allow them to pull
up the weeds; he said to them, 'I am afraid that
you will go intending to pull up the weeds and pull up the wheat along
with them.' For on the day of the harvest the
weeds will be plainly visible, and they will be pulled up and burned." |
[15:26] Men that have
hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ. |
|
|
The kingdom of the father
is like a man who had good seed |
Our Lord Jesus Christ. We
have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same
things by mouth. For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to
lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things |
His enemy came by night
and sowed weeds among the good seed |
That ye abstain from
meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and
from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well |
The man did not allow
them to pull up the weeds |
So when they were
dismissed, they came to |
I am afraid that you will
go intending to pull up the weeds and pull up the wheat along with them |
And after they had
tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto
the apostles… |
For on the day of the
harvest the weeds will be plainly visible, and they will be pulled up
and burned |
But Paul thought not good
to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia,
and went not with them to the work. And the contention was so sharp
between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so
Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto |

(58) Jesus said, "Blessed is the man who has
suffered and found life." |
[16:1]
Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain
disciple was there, named Timotheus, the
son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but
his father was a Greek: |
|
|
Blessed is the man |
A certain disciple was
there, named Timotheus, the son of a
certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed |
Who has suffered and
found life |
Him would Paul have to go
forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which
were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek |
|
|
(59) Jesus said, "Take heed of the living one while you
are alive, lest you die and seek
to see him and be unable to do so." |
[16:4] And
as they went through the cities, they delivered them
the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and
elders which were at |
|
|
Take heed of the living
one |
They delivered them the
decrees for to keep |
You are alive |
The churches established
in the faith, and increased in number daily |
Lest you die |
Were forbidden of the
Holy Ghost to preach the word |
Seek to see him |
A vision appeared to Paul
in the night |
Be unable to do so |
But the Spirit suffered
them not |
|
|
(60) <They
saw> a Samaritan carrying a lamb on his way to |
There stood a man of |

<They saw> a
Samaritan carrying a lamb on his way to |
Come over into |
That man is round about
the lamb |
Loosing from |
So that he may kill it
and eat it |
She attended unto the
things which were spoken of Paul. And when she was baptized, and her
household |
While it is alive, he
will not eat it, but only when he has killed it and it has become a
corpse |
And it came to pass… a
certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us… But Paul,
being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the
name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour |
He cannot do so otherwise |
And when her masters saw
that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and
drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers |
You too, look for a place
for yourself within repose |
These men, being Jews, do
exceedingly trouble our city… And the multitude rose up together
against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes |
Lest you become a corpse
and be eaten |
They had laid many
stripes upon them, they cast them into
prison… Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner
prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks |
|
|
(61) Jesus said, "Two will rest on a bed: the one
will die, and the other will live." |
[16:25] And at
midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and
the prisoners heard them. |
|
|
Two will rest on a bed |
At midnight Paul and
Silas prayed |
The one will die |
The keeper of the prison
awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out
his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners
had been fled |
And the other will live |
Then he called for a
light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and
Silas |
Who are you, man, that
you ... have come up on my couch and eaten from my table |
And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all
that were in his house… And when he had brought them into his house, he
set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house
|
I am he who exists from
the undivided. I was given some of the things of my father |
The magistrates have sent
to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace… where was a
synagogue of the Jews |
I am your disciple." |
Nay verily; but let them
come themselves and fetch us out. And the serjeants
told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard
that they were Romans |
But if he is divided, he
will be filled with darkness |
And brought them out…
they went out of the prison… when they had passed through…
|
|
|
(62) Jesus said, "It is to those who are worthy of my mysteries that
I tell my mysteries. Do
not let your left (hand) know what your right
(hand) is doing." |
[17:2] And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the
scriptures, |
|
|
It is to those who are
worthy of my mysteries |
And Paul, as his manner
was, went in unto them, and three sabbath
days reasoned with them out of the scriptures… And some of them
believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a
great multitude, and of the chief women not a few |
I tell my mysteries |
Opening and alleging,
that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead;
and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ |
Do not let your left
(hand) know |
But the Jews which
believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of
the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an
uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out
to the people |
What your right (hand) is
doing |
These that have turned
the world upside down are come hither also |
|
|
(63) Jesus said, "There was a rich man who had much money. He said, 'I shall put my money to use so that
I may sow, reap, plant, and fill my storehouse with produce, with the result that I shall lack nothing.' Such were his intentions, but that same night he died.
Let him who has ears hear." |
[17:7] Whom Jason hath
received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of
Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. |
|
|
There was a rich man who
had much money |
These all do contrary to
the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus |
I shall put my money to
use |
The brethren immediately
sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea |
That I may sow, reap,
plant, and fill my storehouse with produce |
That they received the
word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily,
whether those things were so |
With the result that I
shall lack nothing |
Therefore many of them
believed; also of honourable women which
were Greeks, and of men, not a few |
Such were his intentions,
but that same night he died |
When the Jews of
Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at
|
Let him who has ears hear |
And receiving a
commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for
to come to him with all speed, they departed. Now while Paul waited for
them at |
|
|
(64) Jesus said, "A man
had received visitors. And when he had prepared the
dinner, he sent his servant to invite the guests. |
[17:17] Therefore
disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews,
and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met
with him. |
|
|
And when he had prepared
the dinner, he sent his servant to invite the guests |
Therefore disputed he in
the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the
market daily with them that met with him… all the Athenians and
strangers |
My master invites you… My
master has invited you… My master invites you… My master invites you |
THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom
therefore ye ignorantly worship, him
declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein,
seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth… That they should seek the
Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him… but now commandeth all men every where to repent… And he
reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath,
and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks… and testified to the Jews that
Jesus was Christ… teaching the word of God among them… but he himself
entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews… This man was
instructed in the way of the Lord |
They are coming to me
this evening. I must go and give them my orders… I shall not have any
spare time… I shall not be able to come… I shall not be able to come |
And hath determined the
times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation… he hath
appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness
by that man whom he hath ordained… when Gallio
was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord
against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat |
I ask to be excused from
the dinner… I ask to be excused from the dinner… I ask to be excused…
Those whom you invited to the dinner have asked to be excused |
And the times of this
ignorance God winked at… And when they heard of the resurrection of the
dead, some mocked: and others said, We will
hear thee again of this matter… And when they opposed themselves, and
blasphemed |
He went to the first one
… He went to another… He went to another… He went to another |
So Paul departed from
among them… After these things Paul departed from |
Go outside to the streets
and bring back those whom you happen to meet, so that they may dine |
Then spake
the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak,
and hold not thy peace: For I am with thee, and no man shall set on
thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city. And he
continued there a year and six months… they desired him to tarry longer
time with them… and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in
order, strengthening all the disciples… when Aquila
and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto
him the way of God more perfectly |
Businessmen and merchants
will not enter the places of my father |
This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the
law… But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look
ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters |
|

(65) He said, "There
was a good man who owned a vineyard. He leased
it to tenant farmers so that they might work it and he might collect
the produce from them. He sent his servant so
that the tenants might give him the produce of the vineyard. They seized his servant and beat him, all but killing him.
The servant went back and told his master. The master said, 'Perhaps
he did not recognize them.' He sent another
servant. The tenants beat this one as well.
Then the owner sent his son and said, 'Perhaps
they will show respect to my son.' Because the
tenants knew that it was he who was the heir to the vineyard, they
seized him and killed him. Let him who has ears hear." |
[18:27]
And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia,
the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through
grace: |
|
|
There was a good man who
owned a vineyard |
Jesus was Christ… Christ
Jesus… the Lord Jesus… the Lord Jesus… Jesus… the name of the Lord
Jesus was magnified… So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed |
He leased it to tenant
farmers so that they might work it and he might collect the produce
from them |
The Jews… the Jews |
He sent his servant so
that the tenants might give him the produce of the vineyard |
When he was disposed to
pass into Achaia… he was come, helped them much which had believed
through grace… For he mightily convinced… and that publickly,
shewing by the scriptures… the Holy
Ghost came on them; and they spake with
tongues, and prophesied |
They seized his servant
and beat him, all but killing him… The tenants beat this one as well |
Laid his hands upon them…
but spake evil of that way before the
multitude… And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and
overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of
that house naked and wounded |
Perhaps he did not
recognize them |
Disputing and persuading
the things concerning the |
He sent another servant |
Paul having passed
through the upper coasts came to |
Then the owner sent his
son and said, 'Perhaps they will show respect to my son |
So he sent into |
Because the tenants knew
that it was he who was the heir to the vineyard, they seized him and
killed him. |
And the same time there
arose no small stir about that way… For a certain man named Demetrius,
a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small
gain unto the craftsmen |
Let him who has ears hear |
We have not so much as
heard whether there be any Holy Ghost… When
they heard this, they were baptized… divers were hardened, and believed
not… they which dwelt in |

(66) Jesus said, "Show me the stone which the builders have rejected. That
one is the cornerstone." |
[19:25] Whom he called
together with the workmen of like occupation,
and said, Sirs, ye know that by
this craft we have our wealth. |
|
|
Show me |
Ye know… ye see and hear |
The stone |
Gods, which are made with
hands |
The builders have rejected |
The workmen… by this
craft we have our wealth… |
That one is the
cornerstone |
The temple of the great
goddess Diana |
|
|
(67) Jesus said, "If one who knows the all still
feels a personal deficiency, he is completely
deficient." |
[19:28]
And when they heard these sayings, they were full of
wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. |
|
|
If one who knows the all |
They rushed with one
accord into the theatre |
Still feels a personal
deficiency |
They were full of wrath…
the whole city was filled with confusion |
He is completely deficient |
Desiring him that he
would not adventure himself into the theatre |
|
|
(68) Jesus said, "Blessed are you when you are hated and persecuted.
Wherever you have been persecuted they will find
no place." |
[19:32]
Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the
assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore
they were come together. |
|
|
Blessed are you when you
are hated and persecuted |
The assembly was
confused… But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice
about the space of two hours cried out |
Wherever you have been
persecuted they will find no place |
Ye men of Ephesus, what
man is there that knoweth not how that the
city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and
of the image which fell down from Jupiter |
|
|
(69) Jesus said, "Blessed are they who have been persecuted within themselves.
It is they who have truly come to know the father.
Blessed are the hungry, for the belly of him who
desires will be filled." |
[19:37] For
ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of
churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess. |
|
|
Blessed are they who have
been persecuted within themselves |
For ye have brought
hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet
blasphemers of your goddess… let them implead
one another |
It is they who have truly
come to know the father |
We are in danger to be
called in question… he dismissed the assembly… go into |
Blessed are the hungry,
for the belly of him who desires will be filled |
When he had gone over
those parts… he came into |
|
|
(70) Jesus said, "That which you have will save you if you
bring it forth from yourselves. That which you
do not have within you will kill you if you do
not have it within you." |
[20:3] And
there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait
for him, as he was about to sail into |
|
|
That which you have will
save you |
Aristarchus (The best ruler)… And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where
they were gathered together |
You bring it forth from
yourselves |
Trophimus… (Greek: Nutricious)… |
That which you do not
have within you |
The Jews laid wait for him |
Will kill you if you do
not have it within you |
There sat in a window a
certain young man named Eutychus, being
fallen into a deep sleep |
|
|
(71) Jesus said, "I shall destroy this house, and no
one will be able to build it [...]." |
and as Paul was long
preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from
the third loft, and was taken up dead. |
|
|
I shall destroy this house |
He sunk down with sleep,
and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead |
And no one will be able |
And Paul went down, and
fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his
life is in him |
To build it (I will
raise it up, John 2:19) |
He therefore was come up
again, and had broken bread, and eaten |
|
|
(72) A man said to him, "Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions with me." |
[20:12]
And they brought the young man alive, and were
not a little comforted. |
|
|
Tell my brothers to
divide my father's possessions with me |
They brought the young
man alive (The body dividedwithout the spirit is dead) Tarried at Trogyllium (Trogyllium
: Greek = “a cache”) Be at Lying in wait of the Jews |
O man, who has made me a
divider |
Called the elders of the
church… I have been with you at all seasons… with many tears, and
temptations |
I am not a divider, am I |
The day of Pentecost (The 50th day
of completion) I kept back nothing that
was profitable unto you Testifying both to the
Jews, and also to the Greeks |
|
|
(73) Jesus said, "The harvest is great but the
laborers are few. Beseech the Lord, therefore,
to send out laborers to the harvest." |
repentance toward
God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. |
|
|
The harvest is great |
Repentance toward God,
and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ |
The laborers are few |
I go bound in the spirit
unto |
Beseech the Lord,
therefore |
The ministry, which I
have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of
God |
Send out laborers to the
harvest |
I have gone preaching the
kingdom of God |
|
|
(74) He said, "O
Lord, there are many around the drinking trough, but there is nothing in the cistern." |
[20:26] Wherefore I take
you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. |
|
|
O Lord, there are many
around the drinking trough |
To all the flock, over
the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of
God, which he hath purchased with his own blood |
There is nothing in the
cistern |
I have not shunned to
declare unto you all the counsel of God |
|
|
(75) Jesus said, "Many are standing at the door, but
it is the solitary who will enter the bridal
chamber." |
[20:29] For I know this,
that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in
among you, not sparing the flock. |
|
|
Many are standing at the
door |
Grievous wolves enter in
among you… Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse
things, to draw away disciples after them |
But it is the solitary |
The flock… I ceased not
to warn every one |
Who will enter the bridal
chamber |
And now, brethren, I
commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to
build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are
sanctified |
|
|
(76) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a merchant who had a
consignment of merchandise and who discovered a
pearl. That merchant was shrewd. He sold the merchandise and bought the pearl alone for
himself. You too, seek his unfailing and
enduring treasure where no moth comes near to
devour and no worm destroys." |
[20:33] I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. |
|
|
The kingdom of the father
is like a merchant who had a consignment of merchandise |
Yea, ye yourselves know,
that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that
were with me … remember the words of the Lord Jesus |
Who discovered a pearl |
We had discovered Cyprus |
That merchant was shrewd |
I have coveted no man's
silver, or gold, or apparel… |
He sold the merchandise
and bought the pearl alone for himself |
It is more blessed to
give than to receive… Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more… we
left it on the left hand… for there the ship was to unlade her burden |
You too, seek his
unfailing and enduring treasure |
Launched, we came with a
straight course… we went aboard, and set forth… go up to Jerusalem… we
departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way… and we
kneeled down on the shore, and prayed… we took ship; and they returned
home again |
Where no moth comes near
to devour and no worm destroys |
|
|
|
(77) Jesus said, "It is I who am the light which is above them all. It is I who am the all. From me
did the all come forth, and unto me did the all extend. Split a piece of wood,
and I am there. Lift up
the stone,
and you will find me there." |
[21:10] And as we tarried
there many days, there came down from |
|
|
It is I who am the light
which is above them all… Lift up the stone |
There came down from |
It is I who am the all |
Thus saith
the Holy Ghost… the name of the Lord Jesus |
From me did the all come
forth, and unto me did the all extend |
When he was come unto us,
he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet… So shall the
Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth
this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles…
besought him not to go up to Jerusalem… and went up to Jerusalem |
Split a piece of wood |
The disciples of Caesarea |
And I am there |
And brought with them one |
You will find me there |
With whom we should lodge |
|
|
(78) Jesus said, "Why have you come out into the desert? To
see a reed shaken by the wind? And to see a man
clothed in fine garments like your kings and your great men? Upon them are the fine garments, and they are unable to
discern the truth." |
[21:17] And when we were come to |
|
|
Why have you come out
into the desert |
We were come to |
To see a reed shaken by
the wind |
Thou seest,
brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they
are all zealous of the law |
And to see a man clothed
in fine garments like your kings and your great men |
We have four men which
have a vow on them |
Upon them are the fine
garments, and they are unable to discern the truth |
That they may shave their
heads… but that thou thyself also walkest
orderly, and keepest the law |
|
|
(79) A woman from the
crowd said to him, "Blessed are the womb which bore you
and the breasts which nourished you." |
[21:25] As touching the
Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe
no such thing, save only that they keep themselves
from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. |
|
|
Blessed are the womb
which bore you |
Keep themselves… and from
fornication… purifying himself… and further brought Greeks also into
the temple, and hath polluted this holy place |
The breasts which
nourished you |
And laid hands on him…
Crying out |
Blessed are those who
have heard the word of the father and have truly kept it |
This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people,
and the law… tidings came unto the chief captain of the band |
For there will be days
when |
Immediately… when they
saw the chief captain and the soldiers |
Blessed are the womb
which has not conceived |
They took Paul, and drew
him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut |
The breasts which have
not given milk |
And some cried one thing,
some another, among the multitude |
|
|
(80) Jesus said, "He who has recognized the world has
found the body, but he who has found the body
is superior to the world." |
[21:36]
For the multitude of the people followed after, crying,
Away with him. |
|
|
He who has recognized the
world |
The multitude of the
people followed after, crying, Away with him… Canst thou speak Greek… Art not thou that Egyptian… four thousand men |
Has found the body |
I am a man… a Jew of |
But he who has found the
body |
The people |
Is superior to the world |
Paul stood on the stairs,
and beckoned with the hand unto the people… he spake
unto them in the Hebrew tongue |
|
|
(81) Jesus said, "Let him who has grown rich be king, and
let him who possesses power renounce it." |
[22:1] Men,
brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence
which I make now unto you. |
|
|
Let him who has grown
rich be king |
Men, brethren, and
fathers… I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet
of Gamaliel |
And let him who possesses
power renounce it |
And taught according to
the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward
God, as ye all are this day |
|
|
(82) Jesus said, "He who is near me is near the fire, and
he who is far from me is far from the kingdom." |
[22:4] And
I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into
prisons both men and women. |
|
|
He who is near me is near
the fire |
And I persecuted this way
unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women…
for to be punished… and was come nigh unto |
And he who is far from me
is far from the kingdom |
To bring them which were
there bound unto |
|
|
(83) Jesus said, "The images are manifest to man, but
the light in them remains concealed in the image of the light of the
father. He will become manifest, but his image will remain concealed by his light." |
[22:7] And I fell unto
the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? |
|
|
The images are manifest
to man |
Who art thou, Lord… I am
Jesus of |
But the light in them
remains concealed in the image of the light of the father |
And they that were with
me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice
of him that spake to me |
He will become manifest |
Arise, and go into |
But his image will remain
concealed by his light |
I could not see for the
glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me |
|
|
(84) Jesus said, "When you see your likeness, you rejoice. But when you see your images which came into being before
you, and which neither die not
become manifest, how much you will have to bear!" |
[22:13] Came unto me, and
stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy
sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him. |
|
|
When you see your
likeness, you rejoice |
Brother Saul, receive thy
sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him |
But when you see your
images which came into being before you |
Our fathers … and see
that Just One… thou shalt be his witness
unto all men of what thou hast seen |
And which neither die |
Arise, and be baptized,
and wash away thy sins |
Not become manifest |
I prayed in the temple, I
was in a trance |
How much you will have to
bear |
For they will not receive
thy testimony concerning me… I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue
them that believed on thee… I also was standing by, and consenting unto
his death |
|
|
(85) Jesus said, "Adam came into being from a great
power and a great wealth, but he did not become
worthy of you. For had he been worthy, he would not have experienced death." |
[22:21]
And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the
Gentiles. |
|
|
Adam came into being |
Away with such a fellow
from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live |
From a great power and a
great wealth |
The chief captain
commanded him to be brought into the castle |
But he did not become
worthy of you |
Is it lawful for you to
scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned |
For had he been worthy |
For this man is a Roman…
Tell me, art thou a Roman |
He would not have
experienced death |
With a great sum obtained
I this freedom… I was free born |
|
|
(86) Jesus said, "The foxes have their holes and the
birds have their nests, but the son of man
has no place to lay his head and rest." |
[22:29]
Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him:
and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew
that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him. |
|
|
The foxes have their holes |
The chief captain also
was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman |
The birds have their nests |
And commanded the chief
priests and all their council to appear… the council |
But the son of man |
Men and brethren |
Has no place to lay his
head and rest |
High priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to
smite him on the mouth |
|
|
(87) Jesus said, "Wretched is the body that is
dependant upon a body, and wretched is the soul
that is dependent on these two." |
[23:3]
Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest
thou to judge me after the law, and commandest
me to be smitten contrary to the law? |
|
|
Wretched is the body |
God shall smite thee,
thou whited wall |
That is dependant upon a
body |
Revilest thou
God's high priest… Thou shalt not speak
evil of the ruler of thy people |
And wretched is the soul
that is dependent on these two |
The one part were
Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out… there arose a
dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude
was divided |
|
|
(88) Jesus said, "The angels and the prophets will come to you and give to you those things you (already) have. And you too, give them those things which you have,
and say to yourselves, 'When
will they come and take what is theirs?'" |
[23:8] For the Sadducees
say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor
spirit: but the Pharisees confess both. |
|
|
The angels and the
prophets will come to you |
Neither angel, nor
spirit… if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him |
And give to you those
things you (already) have |
And to take him by force
from among them |
And you too, give them
those things which you have |
Saying that they would
neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul |
And say to yourselves |
Paul: for as thou hast
testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome |
When will they come and
take what is theirs |
They came to the chief
priests and elders… that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul |
|
|
(89) Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the
cup? Do you not realize that he who made the inside is the same one who made the outside?" |
[23:15]
Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he
bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would
inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or
ever he come near, are ready to kill him. |
|
|
Why do you wash the
outside… the outside |
Paul the prisoner |
The cup |
The castle |
Do you not realize |
As though ye would
inquire something more perfectly concerning him |
He who made… the same one
who made |
For he hath a certain
thing to tell him… who hath something to say unto thee… What is that
thou hast to tell me ( God made by speaking ) |
The inside |
He went and entered into |
|
|
(90) Jesus said, "Come unto me, for my yoke is easy
and my lordship is mild, and you will find
repose for yourselves." |
[23:20]
And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to
morrow into the council, as though they would inquire somewhat
of him more perfectly. |
|
|
Come unto me |
Bring down Paul to morrow
into the council… then let the young man depart |
For my yoke is easy and
my lordship is mild |
They will neither eat nor
drink… looking for a promise from thee |
And you will find repose
for yourselves |
Make ready… at the third
hour of the night |
|
|
(91) They said to him, "Tell us who you are so that we may
believe in you." |
[23:24] And provide them
beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the
governor. |
|
|
Tell us who you are |
Having understood that he
was a Roman… And when he understood that he was of Cilicia |
So that we may believe in
you |
Claudius Lysias… I would have known the cause wherefore
they accused him (Lysias
= Releaser) |
You read the face of the
sky and of the earth |
He wrote a letter after
this manner |
But you have not
recognized the one who is before you |
Whom I perceived to be
accused of questions of their law… presented Paul also before him |
And you do not know how
to read this moment |
And delivered the epistle
to the governor… And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of
what province he was |
|
|
(92) Jesus said, "Seek and you will find. Yet, what
you asked me about in former times and which I did not tell you then,
now I do desire to tell, but
you do not inquire after it." |
[23:35] I
will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he
commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall. |
|
|
Seek and you will find |
I will hear thee… we have
found this man a pestilent fellow |
Yet, what you asked me
about in former times and which I did not tell you then |
When thine
accusers are also come |
Now I do desire to tell |
And after five days… Tertullus began to accuse him |
But you do not inquire
after it |
I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words |
|
|
(93) <Jesus said,> "Do not give what is holy to dogs,
lest they throw them on the dung-heap. Do not throw the pearls to swine,
lest they [...] it [...]." |
[24:6] Who
also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we
took, and would have judged according to our law. |
|
|
Do not give what is holy |
And with great violence
took him away out of our hands |
Dogs |
We took, and would have
judged according to our law… the Jews |
Lest they throw them on
the dung-heap |
Who also hath gone about
to profane the temple |
Do not throw the pearls |
Assented, saying that
these things were so |
Swine |
The governor… a judge |
Lest they (trample them under
their feet, Matthew 7:6) |
The chief captain Lysias came upon us |
|
|
(94) Jesus said, "He who seeks will find,
and he who knocks will be let in." |
[24:11] Because that thou mayest understand,
that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to |
|
|
He who seeks |
That thou mayest understand |
Will find |
I went up to |
He who knocks |
They neither found me…
prove the things |
Will be let in |
In the temple … neither
in the synagogues, nor in the city |
|
|
(95) Jesus said, "If you have money, do not lend it
at interest, but give it to one from whom you
will not get it back." |
[24:14] But this I
confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all
things which are written in the law and in the prophets: |
|
|
If you have money |
So worship I… And have hope toward God |
Do not lend it at interest |
I exercise myself, to
have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men |
But give it to one from
whom you will not get it back |
I came to bring alms to
my nation, and offerings |
|
|
(96) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman.
She took a little leaven, concealed
it in some dough, and made it into large loaves.
Let him who has ears hear." |
[24:18] Whereupon certain
Jews from |
|
|
The kingdom of the father
is like a certain woman |
I stood before the council |
She took a little leaven |
Having more perfect
knowledge of that way… I will know the uttermost of your matter |
Concealed it in some dough |
Found me purified in the
temple… the resurrection of the dead |
And made it into large
loaves |
And to let him have
liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister
or come unto him |
Let him who has ears hear |
He sent for Paul, and
heard him concerning the faith in Christ |
|
|
(97) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a
certain woman who was carrying a jar full of meal. While
she was walking on the road, still some distance from home, the handle of the jar broke and the meal emptied out
behind her on the road. She did not realize it;
she had noticed no accident. When she reached
her house, she set the jar down and found it
empty." |
[24:25] And
as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come
Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time;
when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee. |
|
|
The kingdom of the father
is like |
And as he reasoned of
righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come… |
A certain woman who was
carrying a jar full of meal |
Go thy way for this time |
While she was walking on
the road, still some distance from home |
He sent for him the
oftener, and communed with him… after three days he ascended from
Caesarea to Jerusalem… he would send for him to Jerusalem… he himself
would depart shortly thither… go down with me… he went down… the temple |
The handle of the jar
broke and the meal emptied out behind her on the road |
And accuse this man, if
there be any wickedness in him |
She did not realize it;
she had noticed no accident |
And laid many and
grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove |
When she reached her house |
After two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room… the Jews
which came down from |
She set the jar down and
found it empty |
Wilt thou go up to |
|
|
(98) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like
a certain man who wanted to kill a powerful man. In
his own house he drew his sword and stuck it into the wall in
order to find out whether his hand could carry through.
Then he slew the powerful man." |
[25:10] Then
said Paul, I stand at Caesar's judgment seat,
where I ought to be judged: to the Jews
have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest. |
|
|
The kingdom of the father |
Then said Paul, I stand
at Caesar's judgment seat… I appeal unto Caesar… king Agrippa and
Bernice… Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king… the chief priests
and the elders of the Jews informed me |
Like a certain man who
wanted to kill a powerful man |
Where I ought to be
judged… if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of
death, I refuse not to die… It is not the manner of the Romans to
deliver any man to die |
In his own house he drew
his sword and stuck it into the wall |
When he had conferred
with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? unto Caesar
shalt thou go |
find out whether his hand
could carry through |
No man may deliver me
unto them… There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix |
Then he slew the powerful
man |
He which is accused have
the accusers face to face, and have licence
to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him |
|
|
(99) The disciples said
to him, "Your brothers and your mother are standing
outside." |
[25:17] Therefore, when
they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I
sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought
forth. |
|
|
Your brothers and your
mother are standing outside |
When the accusers stood
up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed… Jesus,
which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive |
Those here who do the
will of my father |
Paul had appealed to be
reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till
I might send him to Caesar |
My brothers and my mother |
The multitude of the Jews
have dealt with me |
It is they who will enter
the kingdom of my father |
I sat on the judgment
seat… go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters… when
Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into
the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the
city… King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us… both at
|
|
|
(100) They
showed Jesus a gold coin and said to him, "Caesar's
men demand taxes from us." |
[25:25] But when I found that he had committed nothing
worthy of death, and that he himself hath
appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him. |
|
|
They showed Jesus a gold
coin |
I found… nothing worthy
of death |
Caesar's men demand taxes
from us |
He himself hath appealed
to Augustus… write unto my lord… O king Agrippa… it seemeth to me unreasonable |
Give Caesar what belongs
to Caesar |
Send a prisoner… king
Agrippa… touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews |
Give God what belongs to
God |
Then Paul stretched forth
the hand |
And give me what is mine |
I beseech thee to hear me
patiently… among mine own nation |
|
|
(101) <Jesus said,>
"Whoever does not hate his father and his mother
as I do cannot become a
disciple to me. And whoever does not love his
father and his mother as I do cannot become a disciple to me. For my
mother [...], but my true mother gave me life. |
[26:5] Which knew me from
the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect
of our religion I lived a Pharisee. |
|
|
Whoever does not hate his
father and his mother |
I stand and am judged for
the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers |
As I do… as I do |
I verily thought with
myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of
|
Become a disciple to
me…become a disciple to me |
God should raise the
dead… as I went… with authority and commission… I saw in the way a
light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about
me and them which journeyed with me |
And whoever does not love
his father and his mother |
Having received authority
from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my
voice against them. And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and
compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I
persecuted them even unto strange cities |
For my mother [...], but
my true mother gave me life |
After the most straitest sect
of our religion I lived a Pharisee… I heard a voice speaking unto me,
and saying in the Hebrew tongue |
|
|
(102) Jesus said, "Woe to the pharisees,
for they are like a dog sleeping in the manger of oxen, for neither
does he eat nor does he let the oxen eat." |
Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick
against the pricks. |
|
|
Woe to the pharisees |
Saul, Saul… it is hard
for thee to kick against the pricks (Saul was a Pharisee. The
pricks are the goads used to urge or prod the oxen. God
has a sense of humor. Paul is goading the oxen. Jesus is goading Saul.) |
For they are like a dog
sleeping |
But rise, and stand upon
thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose… both of these
things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the
which I will appear unto thee… To open their eyes, and to turn
them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God |
The manger of oxen |
To make thee a minister
and a witness… unto whom now I send thee |
For neither does he eat
nor does he let the oxen eat |
That they may receive
forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by
faith that is in me |

(103) Jesus said, "Fortunate is the man who knows where
the brigands will enter, so that he may get up,
muster his domain, and arm himself before they
invade." |
[26:19]
Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto
the heavenly vision: |
|
|
Fortunate is the man who
knows |
I was not disobedient
unto the heavenly vision… But shewed first
unto them of |
Where the brigands will
enter |
The Jews caught me in the
temple, and went about to kill me |
So that he may get up |
That he should be the
first that should rise from the dead |
Muster his domain, and
arm himself before they invade |
Having therefore obtained
help of God… saying none other things than those which the prophets and
Moses did say should come |
|
|
(104) They said to Jesus,
"Come, let us pray today and let us fast." |
[26:26] For the king knoweth
of these things, before whom also I speak freely:
for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for
this thing was not done in a corner. |
|
|
Come, let us pray today
and let us fast… then let them fast and pray |
I speak freely… I would
to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were
both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds… they
delivered Paul and certain other prisoners… and gave him liberty to go
unto his friends to refresh himself
( A fast is to set at liberty or loose bonds, Isaiah 58 ) |
What is the sin that I

(105) Jesus said, "He who knows the father and the mother will
be called the son of a harlot." |
[27:4] And when
we had launched from thence, we sailed under |

He who knows the father

When we had launched from

(106) Jesus
said, "When you make the two one, you will become the sons of man, and
when you say, 'Mountain, move away,' it will
move away." |
[27:8]
And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair
havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea. |

Jesus said… and when you

Paul admonished them…
spoken by Paul |
When you make the two one |

(107) Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep.
One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine sheep and looked for that one
until he found it. When he had gone to such
trouble, he said to the sheep, 'I care for you more than the ninety-nine.'" |
[27:13] And when the
south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose,
loosing thence, they sailed close by |
|
|
The kingdom is like a
shepherd who had a hundred sheep |
Thou must be brought
before Caesar |
One of them, the largest,
went astray |
And running under a
certain island which is called Clauda, we
had much work to come by the boat… and so were driven… all hope that we
should be saved was then taken away |
He left the ninety-nine
sheep and looked for that one until he found it |
But after long abstinence
Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have
hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from |
When he had gone to such
trouble, he said to the sheep, 'I care for you more than the ninety-nine |
Fear not, Paul… lo, God
hath given thee all them that sail with thee |
|
|
(108) Jesus said, "He who will drink from my mouth will become like me.
I myself shall become he, and the things that are
hidden will be revealed to him." |
[27:25] Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even
as it was told me. |
|
|
He who will drink from my
mouth will become like me |
Be of good cheer: for I
believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me |
I myself shall become he,
and the things that are hidden will be revealed to him |
And found it… and found
it… and wished for the day |
|
|
(109) Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a man who had a hidden treasure in his
field without knowing it. And after he died, he
left it to his son. The son did not know (about
the treasure). He inherited the field and sold
it. And the one who bought it went plowing and
found the treasure. He began to lend money at
interest to whomever he wished." |
[27:31] Paul said to the
centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in
the ship, ye cannot be saved. [27:43] But the
centurion, willing to save Paul,
|
|
|
The kingdom is like a man
who had a hidden treasure in his field without knowing it |
Except these abide in the
ship, ye cannot be saved |
And after he died, he
left it to his son |
For there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you… he took
bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had
broken it, he began to eat… And we were in all in the ship two hundred
threescore and sixteen souls |
The son did not know
(about the treasure) |
They knew not the land |
He inherited the field
and sold it |
Paul besought them all to
take meat… I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health…
Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took some meat |
And the one who bought it
went plowing and found the treasure |
But they discovered a
certain creek with a shore, into the which
they were minded, if it were possible, to thrust in the ship. And when
they had taken up the anchors, they committed themselves unto the sea,
and loosed the rudder bands, and hoised up
the mainsail to the wind, and made toward shore |
He began to lend money at
interest to whomever he wished |
And the soldiers' counsel
was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out, and
escape… willing to save Paul |
|
|
(110) Jesus said, "Whoever finds the world and becomes
rich, let him renounce the world." |
[27:43b] kept
them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim
should cast themselves first into the sea, and get
to land: |
|
|
Whoever finds the world |
Get to land… they escaped
all safe to land |
Becomes rich |
And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness |
Let him renounce the world |
Kept them from their
purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast
themselves first into the sea |
|
|
(111) Jesus said, "The heavens and the earth will be rolled up in your
presence. And the one who lives from the living
one will not see death." Does not Jesus say, "Whoever
finds himself is superior to the world?" |
[28:3] And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the
fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his
hand. |
|
|
The heavens and the earth
will be rolled up in your presence |
Paul had gathered a
bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire |
And the one who lives
from the living one will not see death |
And when the barbarians
saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No
doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet
vengeance suffereth not to live… and felt
no harm… he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly… saw no
harm come to him |
Whoever finds himself is
superior to the world |
He was a god… Paul
entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him…
others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:
Who also honoured us with many honours |
|
|
(112) Jesus said, "Woe to the flesh that depends on the soul; woe to the soul that depends on the flesh." |
[28:10b] and when we departed, they
laded us with such things as were necessary. |
|
|
Woe… woe |

= “Breach” ) |
The flesh… the flesh |
We departed in a ship of |
That depends on… that
depends on |
And so we went toward |
The soul… the soul |
They laded us with such
things as were necessary… Pollux ( Pollux
= “immortal” ) |
|
|
(113) His disciples said
to him, "When will the kingdom come?" |
[28:15] And from thence,
when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us
as far as Appiiforum, and The three
taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took
courage. |
|
|
When will the kingdom come |
They came to meet us …
when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage |
It will not come by
waiting for it |
And it came to pass, that
after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together |
It will not be a matter
of saying 'here it is' or 'there it is |
I delivered prisoner from

Rather, the kingdom of
the father is spread out upon the earth |
I was constrained to
appeal unto Caesar; not that I had ought to accuse my nation of |
And men do not see it |
Neither any of the
brethren that came shewed or spake any harm of thee |

|
(114) Simon Peter said to
him, "Let Mary leave us, for women are not worthy of life." |
[28:22] But we desire to
hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is
spoken against. |
|
|
Let Mary leave us, for
women are not worthy of life |
As concerning this sect,
we know that every where it is spoken against… and some believed not…
For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of
hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with
their eyes, and hear with their ears… no man forbidding him |
I myself shall lead her

so that she too may

And understand with their
heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them… that the
salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it |
For every woman who will
make herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven |
And Paul dwelt two whole
years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him,
