The Book of Revelation & The Gospel of ThomasA Side by Side Unveiling |
The
Testimony of Jesus Side
by Side with The
Book of Revelation In
this study, both corresponding and
contrasting phrases from each column have been highlighted with similar
colours
to compare spiritual with spiritual. May we all be strengthened and
grow to
maturity as we ponder the words of Jesus. John writes in various ways about a little scroll having the true sayings of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. This everlasting gospel is the very gospel of Christ and the word of God, and is reminiscent of the scroll of life, and can even be thought of as the revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave unto him to shew unto his servants. This little scroll is first opened by Jesus. He then gives it to his servants who must then take it to the world. |
The
Book of Revelation is all about this little
scroll, and the marriage of bridegroom and the bride. Has
that little book, the original gospel now
been given back to us? What could this mean? The surprising
implication of
this comparative study is that it may suggest that "The Book of
Revelation" was a vision that John saw while meditating on the sayings
of
Jesus... and that this original gospel may be the scroll scribed down
by
Thomas? When
thoughtful prayerful meditation upon the
words and the sayings of Jesus found in this little scroll are seen and
understood together with the life, words, and actions of his
messengers, then
these words which are spirit and life may also similarily so move us.
This is
the spirit of prophecy at work. |
The
Gospel of Thomas (Thomas Lambdin Translation) The Sayings of Jesus |
The
Book of Revelation (King James Version) Unveiling each Saying of Jesus |
These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down. Thomas Prologue | 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, |
1) And he said, "Whoever finds the interpretation of these sayings will not experience death." | 1:2a and of all things that he saw. 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. |
2) Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the All." | 1:4
John to the seven churches which are in |
3) Jesus said, "If those who lead you say to you, 'See, the kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty." |
1:5
And from Jesus Christ,
who is the
faithful witness,
and the first begotten of the dead,
and the prince
of the kings
of the
earth. Unto him that
loved us, and washed us from
our sins in
his own blood,
1:6 And hath made us kings
and
priests
unto God and his Father;
to him be glory and dominion
for ever and
ever. Amen. |
4) Jesus said, "The man old in days will not hesitate to ask a small child seven days old about the place of life, and he will live. For many who are first will become last, and they will become one and the same." | 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. |
5) Jesus said, "Recognize what is in your sight, and that which is hidden from you will become plain to you . For there is nothing hidden which will not become manifest." |
1:9
I John, who also am your brother, and
companion in
tribulation, and in the kingdom
and patience of Jesus Christ,
was in the isle that
is called |
6)
His disciples questioned
him and said to him, "Do you want us to fast? How shall we pray? Shall we give
alms? What diet shall we
observe?"
(C.f. Ephesus = “permitted” with Do not do. Pergamos = “height or elevation” with heaven. |
1:11
Saying, I am Alpha
and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou
seest,
write in a
book, and send it unto
the seven churches which are in Asia; unto |
7) Jesus said, "Blessed is the lion which becomes man when consumed by man; and cursed is the man whom the lion consumes, and the lion becomes man." | 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; |
8) And he said, "The man is like a wise fisherman who cast his net into the sea and drew it up from the sea full of small fish. Among them the wise fisherman found a fine large fish. He threw all the small fish back into the sea and chose the large fish without difficulty. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear." | 1:15b and his voice as the sound of many waters. |
9) Jesus said, "Now the sower went out, took a handful (of seeds), and scattered them. Some fell on the road; the birds came and gathered them up. Others fell on the rock, did not take root in the soil, and did not produce ears. And others fell on thorns; they choked the seed(s) and worms ate them. And others fell on the good soil and it produced good fruit: it bore sixty per measure and a hundred and twenty per measure." | 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: |
10) Jesus said, "I have cast fire upon the world, and see, I am guarding it until it blazes." |
1:16b
and his
countenance was as the sun shineth
in his strength. |
11) Jesus said, "This heaven will pass away, and the one above it will pass away. The dead are not alive, and the living will not die. In the days when you consumed what is dead, you made it what is alive. When you come to dwell in the light, what will you do? On the day when you were one you became two. But when you become two, what will you do?" |
1:17b
I fell at his feet
as dead.
And he laid his right
hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the
first and the
last:
1:18 I am he
that liveth,
and was dead;
and, behold, I am alive
for
evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell
and of death. |
12)
The disciples said to Jesus,
"We know that
you will
depart from us.
Who is
to be our
leader?" Jesus said to them, "Wherever you are, you are to go to James the righteous, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being." |
2:1
Unto the angel
of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars
in his right hand, who walketh in the
midst of the seven golden
candlesticks; 2:2 I know thy
works, and thy
labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are
evil: and thou hast tried
them which say
they are apostles,
and are not,
and hast found
them liars:
2:3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and
for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. |
13a)
Jesus said to his disciples, "Compare me to
someone and tell me
whom I am
like." Simon Peter said to him, "You are like a righteous angel." Matthew said to him, "You are like a wise philosopher." Thomas said to him, "Master, my mouth is wholly incapable of saying whom you are like." Jesus said, "I am not your master. |
2:7
He that hath an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit saith
unto the churches; To
him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of
life, which is in
the midst of the paradise of God. |
13b)
Because you have drunk,
you have become intoxicated from the bubbling spring which I have
measured
out." ( C.f. "You are like a righteous angel," Thomas 13a with “The angel of the church“ Revelation 12:12.) |
2:10
Fear none of those
things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of
you into
prison, that ye may
be tried;
and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful
unto death,
and I will give thee a crown of life. 2:11
He that hath
an ear, let
him hear
what the Spirit
saith unto the
churches; He that
overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. |
14) Jesus said to them, "If you fast, you will give rise to sin for yourselves; and if you pray, you will be condemned; and if you give alms, you will do harm to your spirits. When you go into any land and walk about in the districts, if they receive you, eat what they will set before you, and heal the sick among them. For what goes into your mouth will not defile you, but that which issues from your mouth - it is that which will defile you." |
2:14
But I have a few
things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine
of Balaam,
who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock
before the children
of 2:15
So hast thou also
them that hold the doctrine
of the Nicolaitanes,
which thing I hate. 2:16
Repent; or else I
will come unto
thee quickly,
and will fight against
them with the sword
of my mouth. |
15) Jesus said, "When you see one who was not born of woman, prostrate yourselves on your faces and worship him. That one is your father." |
2:18
And unto the angel
of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of
God,
who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire,
and his
feet are like fine
brass; 2:19 I know thy works, and charity,
and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last
to be
more than the first. |
16)
Jesus
said, "Men think,
perhaps, that it is peace
which I have come
to cast upon
the world.
They do not
know that it is dissension
which I have come
to
cast upon the earth: fire, sword, and
war. For there
will be five in a house:
three will be against
two, and two against three, the father
against the son,
and the son against the father.
And they will stand
solitary." |
2:21
And I gave her
space to repent of her fornication;
and she
repented not. |
17) Jesus said, "I shall give you what no eye has seen and what no ear has heard and what no hand has touched and what has never occurred to the human mind." |
2:28
And I will give
him
the morning
star. |
18)
The disciples said to Jesus, "Tell us how
our
end will be."
Jesus said, "Have you discovered, then, the beginning, that you look for the end? For where the beginning is, there will the end be. Blessed is he who will take his place in the beginning; he will know the end and will not experience death." |
3:4
Thou hast a few
names even in |
19) Jesus
said, "Blessed is he who came into
being before he came into
being. If you become my disciples
and listen to
my words,
these stones will
minister to you.
For there are five trees for
you in |
3:10b
which shall come upon all
the world,
to try them
that dwell upon
the
earth. 3:11
Behold, I come quickly:
hold that
fast which thou
hast, that no man take
thy crown. |
20) The
disciples said to Jesus, "Tell us
what the kingdom of heaven
is
like." He said to them, "It is like a mustard seed. It is the smallest of all seeds. But when it falls on tilled soil, it produces a great plant and becomes a shelter for birds of the sky." |
3:12b
which cometh down
out of heaven
from my God: and I will write
upon him
my new name. 3:14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, |
21a) Mary
said to Jesus, "Whom are your
disciples like?"
He said, "They are like children who have settled in a field which is not theirs. When the owners of the field come, they will say, 'Let us have back our field.' They (will) undress in their presence in order to let them have back their field and to give it back to them. Therefore I say, if the owner of a house knows that the thief is coming, he will begin his vigil before he comes and will not let him dig through into his house of his domain to carry away his goods. |
3:14b
the beginning of the creation of
God; 3:15
I know thy works,
that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 3:16
So then because
thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my
mouth. |
21b) You, then, be on your guard against the world. Arm yourselves with great strength lest the robbers find a way to come to you, for the difficulty which you expect will (surely) materialize. Let there be among you a man of understanding. When the grain ripened, he came quickly with his sickle in his hand and reaped it. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear." |
3:18b and anoint
thine eyes with
eyesalve, that thou
mayest see. 3:19
As many as I love,
I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 3:20
Behold, I stand at
the door, and knock:
if any man
hear my voice,
and open
the door, I
will come in
to him,
and will sup
with him, and
he with
me. 3:21
To him that
overcometh will I
grant to sit
with
me in my
throne, even as I also overcame,
and am
set down with my
Father in his throne. |
22a) Jesus
saw infants being
suckled.
He said to his disciples, "These infants being
suckled are like
those who enter the kingdom."
They said to him, "Shall we then, as children, enter the kingdom?" |
4:1
After this I looked, and,
behold, a door was
opened in heaven:
and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking
with me;
which said, Come up hither,
and I will shew
thee
things which must
be hereafter. 4:2
And immediately I was in
the spirit:
and, behold,
a throne
was set in
heaven, and one
sat
on the throne. 4:3
And he that sat was
to look upon like a jasper
and a sardine stone:
and there was a rainbow
round about the
throne, in sight
like unto
an emerald. |
22b) Jesus said to them, "When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter the kingdom." |
4:4
And round about the
throne were four and
twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw
four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white
raiment; and they
had on their
heads crowns of gold. |
23) Jesus said, "I shall choose you, one out of a thousand, and two out of ten thousand, and they shall stand as a single one." | 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. |
24) His
disciples said to him, "Show us the
place
where you are,
since it is necessary
for us to seek it."
He said to them, "Whoever has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, he is darkness." |
5:1
And I saw
in the right hand of him that sat
on the throne
a book
written within and on
the backside, sealed
with seven seals. 5:2
And I saw a strong angel
proclaiming with a
loud voice,
Who is worthy
to open the book,
and to loose the seals
thereof? 5:3 And no man in
heaven, nor in
earth, neither under
the
earth, was able
to open the book,
neither to look thereon. |
25)
Jesus
said, "Love
your brother
like your soul,
guard him
like the
pupil
of your eye." |
5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. |
26)
Jesus
said, "You see
the mote in
your brother's
eye,
but you do not see
the beam
in
your own eye.
When you cast
the beam
out
of your own eye,
then you will see
clearly to cast
the mote from
your brother's
eye." |
5:6
And I beheld, and,
lo, in
the midst of the throne
and of the four beasts, and in
the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb
as it had
been
slain, having seven
horns and seven eyes,
which are the seven Spirits of God
sent forth into
all the earth. 5:7
And he came and took the book
out of the right hand
of him that sat upon the throne. 5:8
And when he had taken the book,
the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb,
having
every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the
prayers
of saints. |
27) <Jesus said,> "If you do not fast as regards the world, you will not find the kingdom. If you do not observe the Sabbath as a Sabbath, you will not see the father." |
5:9b
and hast redeemed
us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and
tongue, and people,
and nation;
5:10 And hast made us unto
our God kings
and priests: and
we
shall reign on
the earth. |
28) Jesus said, "I took my place in the midst of the world, and I appeared to them in flesh. I found all of them intoxicated; I found none of them thirsty. And my soul became afflicted for the sons of men, because they are blind in their hearts and do not have sight; for empty they came into the world, and empty too they seek to leave the world. But for the moment they are intoxicated. When they shake off their wine, then they will repent." |
5:12
Saying with a loud
voice, Worthy is
the Lamb that
was slain
to
receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and
glory, and
blessing. 5:13
And every creature
which is in heaven, and
on the earth, and under the earth,
and such as are in the
sea, and all that
are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and
power, be
unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb
for ever and
ever. 5:14
And the four beasts
said, Amen. And the four and
twenty elders fell
down and worshipped him
that liveth for ever and
ever. |
29) Jesus said, "If the flesh came into being because of spirit, it is a wonder. But if spirit came into being because of the body, it is a wonder of wonders. Indeed, I am amazed at how this great wealth has made its home in this poverty." |
6:1b
Come and
see. 6:2
And I saw, and
behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was
given unto him:
and he went forth conquering,
and to conquer. 6:3
And when he had
opened the second seal, I heard the
second beast
say, Come and see. 6:4
And there went out
another horse that was red: and power was given
to him
that sat thereon to take peace from the earth,
and that they should kill one
another: and there was
given unto him
a great
sword. 6:5
And when he had
opened the third seal, I heard the
third beast
say, Come and see.
And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair
of
balances in his hand. 6:6
And I heard a voice
in the midst of the
four beasts
say, A measure of
wheat for a
penny,
and three measures of barley for a penny;
and see thou hurt not the oil and
the wine. |
30) Jesus said, "Where there are three gods, they are gods. Where there are two or one, I am with him." |
6:8
And I looked, and
behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell
followed with him.
And power was given
unto them
over the fourth part of the earth, to kill
with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the
earth. |
31)
Jesus
said, "No prophet is
accepted in his
own village;
|
6:11
And white robes were
given unto every
one of them;
and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little
season, until
their fellowservants
also and
their brethren,
that should be
killed as they
were, should be fulfilled. |
32) Jesus said, "A city being built on a high mountain and fortified cannot fall, nor can it be hidden." |
6:13
And the stars of
heaven fell
unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth
her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 6:14
And the heaven
departed as a scroll when it is rolled together;
and every mountain
and island were moved out of their places. 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; |
33) Jesus said, "Preach from your housetops that which you will hear in your ear. For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel, nor does he put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it on a lampstand so that everyone who enters and leaves will see its light." |
6:16
And said to the
mountains and rocks,
Fall on us,
and hide us
from the face of him that sitteth on the throne,
and from the wrath
of the Lamb: |
34) Jesus said, "If a blind man leads a blind man, they will both fall into a pit." |
6:17b
and who shall be
able to stand?
7:1 And after these things I saw
four angels standing
on the four corners
of the earth,
holding the
four winds of the earth,
that the wind should not blow on
the earth,
nor on the
sea, nor on any tree. |
35a)
Jesus
said, "It is
not possible for anyone to enter the house
of a strong man
and take it by force
unless he
binds his hands;
then he will (be
able to) ransack
his house." |
7:4
And I heard the
number of them which were
sealed: and there were sealed
an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the
tribes of the children of
7:5
Of the tribe
of Juda were sealed
twelve thousand. Of the tribe
of Reuben were sealed
twelve thousand. Of the tribe
of Gad were
sealed twelve thousand. 7:6
Of the tribe
of Aser were sealed
twelve thousand. Of the tribe
of Nephthalim
were sealed
twelve thousand. Of the tribe
of Manasses were sealed
twelve thousand. 7:7
Of the tribe
of Simeon were sealed
twelve thousand. Of the tribe
of Levi were sealed
twelve thousand. Of the tribe
of Issachar
were sealed
twelve thousand. |
35b) Jesus said, "It is not possible for anyone to enter the house of a strong man and take it by force unless he binds his hands; then he will (be able to) ransack his house." |
7:9
After this I beheld,
and, lo, a great multitude, which no man
could
number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood
before the throne, and before the
Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their
hands; 7:10 And
cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our
God which sitteth
upon the throne,
and unto the
Lamb. |
36) Jesus said, "Do not be concerned from morning until evening and from evening until morning about what you will wear." |
7:13
And one of the
elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white
robes? and whence came
they? 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir,
thou knowest. And he said to me, These
are they
which came out of
great tribulation,
and have washed their robes,
and made them
white in the blood of
the
Lamb. 7:15
Therefore are they
before the throne of God, and serve him day and night
in his temple: and he
that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. |
37) His
disciples said, "When will you become revealed
to us
and when shall we
see you?"
Jesus said, "When you disrobe without being ashamed and take up your garments and place them under your feet like little children and tread on them, then will you see the son of the living one, and you will not be afraid" |
7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. |
38) Jesus said, "Many times have you desired to hear these words which I am saying to you, and you have no one else to hear them from. There will be days when you will look for me and will not find me." |
8:1
And when he had
opened the
seventh seal,
there was silence
in heaven
about the
space of half
an hour. |
39) Jesus said, "The pharisees and the scribes have taken the keys of knowledge (gnosis) and hidden them. They themselves have not entered, nor have they allowed to enter those who wish to. You, however, be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves." | 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints |
40) Jesus said, "A grapevine has been planted outside of the father, but being unsound, it will be pulled up by its roots and destroyed." | 8:3b upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 8:4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God |
41) Jesus said, "Whoever has something in his hand will receive more, and whoever has nothing will be deprived of even the little he has." |
8:4b
out of the
angel's
hand. 8:5
And the angel took
the censer, and
filled it with
fire
of the altar,
and cast it
into the earth:
and there were
voices, and thunderings,
and lightnings, and
an earthquake. 8:6
And the seven angels
which had the
seven trumpets
prepared themselves to sound. |
42)
Jesus
said, "Become passers-by." An
alternate translation: |
8:8
And the second angel
sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast
into the
sea: and the third part of the sea became
blood; |
43) His
disciples said to him, "Who are you,
that you should
say these things
to
us?" <Jesus said to them,> "You do not realize who I am from what I say to you, but you have become like the Jews, for they (either) love the tree and hate its fruit (or) love the fruit and hate the tree." |
8:10
And the third angel
sounded, and there fell a great
star from heaven, burning as it
were a lamp,
and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains
of
waters; 8:11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood:
and the third part of the waters became
wormwood;
and many men
died of the
waters,
because they were
made bitter. |
44) Jesus said, "Whoever blasphemes against the father will be forgiven, and whoever blasphemes against the son will be forgiven, but whoever blasphemes against the holy spirit will not be forgiven either on earth or in heaven." | 8:13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound! |
45) Jesus said, "Grapes are not harvested from thorns, nor are figs gathered from thistles, for they do not produce fruit. A good man brings forth good from his storehouse; an evil man brings forth evil things from his evil storehouse, which is in his heart, and says evil things. For out of the abundance of the heart he brings forth evil things." |
9:1
And the fifth angel
sounded, and I saw a star fall from
heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 9:2
And he opened the bottomless pit;
and there
arose a smoke
out of
the pit,
as the smoke
of a great furnace; and the sun
and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke
of the pit. 9:3
And there came out of
the smoke
locusts upon the earth:
and unto them was given power, as the scorpions
of the earth have power. |
46) Jesus
said, "Among those born
of women,
from Adam until John
the Baptist, there is no
one so superior to John
the Baptist that his eyes should
not be lowered
(before him). Yet I have said,
whichever one of you
comes to be a child
will be acquainted
with the kingdom
and will become superior to John."
(John = "Jehovah is a gracious giver" with it was given Rev 9:5) |
9:4b
but only those men
which
have not the seal of
God
in their foreheads. |
47) Jesus said, "It is impossible for a man to mount two horses or to stretch two bows. And it is impossible for a servant to serve two masters; otherwise, he will honor the one and treat the other contemptuously. No man drinks old wine and immediately desires to drink new wine. And new wine is not put into old wineskins, lest they burst; nor is old wine put into a new wineskin, lest it spoil it. An old patch is not sewn onto a new garment, because a tear would result." |
9:6
And in those days
shall men
seek death,
and shall not
find it; and
shall
desire to die,
and death shall
flee
from them. 9:7
And the shapes of
the locusts were like unto horses
prepared
unto battle;
and on their heads
were as it
were crowns like
gold, and their faces
were as the faces of men. 9:8
And they had hair
as the hair
of women, and
their
teeth were as
the teeth of
lions. 9:9
And they had breastplates,
as it were breastplates
of iron; and the sound of
their wings was
as the sound
of
chariots of many horses
running to
battle. |
48) Jesus said, "If two make peace with each other in this one house, they will say to the mountain, 'Move Away,' and it will move away." |
9:11
And they had a
king over them, which
is the angel of the bottomless
pit, whose name in the Hebrew
tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek
tongue hath his name Apollyon.
9:12
One woe is past; and, behold,
there come two
woes more hereafter. 9:13
And the sixth angel
sounded, and I heard a
voice from the
four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 9:14 Saying to the
sixth
angel which had the trumpet, Loose
the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 9:15
And the four angels
were loosed,
which were
prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part
of men. 9:16
And the number
of the army
of the horsemen
were two
hundred thousand
thousand: and I heard the
number of them. |
49) Jesus said, "Blessed are the solitary and elect, for you will find the kingdom. For you are from it, and to it you will return." |
9:17
And thus I saw
the horses in
the vision,
and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth,
and
brimstone: and the heads
of the
horses were as the heads
of
lions; and out of their mouths issued
fire and smoke and brimstone. 9:18
By these three was the third part
of men killed,
by the fire, and by the smoke,
and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. 9:19
For their power
is in their mouth, and in their tails:
for their tails
were like unto serpents, and had heads,
and with them they do hurt. |
50) Jesus
said, "If
they say to you, 'Where
did you
come from?',
say to them,
'We came from the light,
the place where the light
came into being on its own accord and
established itself
and became manifest
through their image.'
If they say to you,
'Is it you?', say,
'We are its
children, we are the elect of the living father.' If they ask
you,
'What is the
sign of your father
in you?', say
to them,
'It is movement
and repose.'" ( C.f. It is movement and repose, with those things which the seven thunders uttered, Rev 10:4, together with Work & Rest in the Seven days of Creation, Gen 1, & the message in the Little Book: Make the Two into One, Thomas 22, 106 ) |
10:1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: 10:2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, 10:3
And cried with
a loud
voice,
as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried,
seven thunders
uttered their
voices. |
51) His
disciples said to him, "When will the
repose of the
dead come about,
and when will
the new world
come?" He said to them, "What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it." |
10:5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, 10:6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. |
52) His
disciples said to him, "Twenty-four prophets spoke
in He said to them, "You have omitted the one living in your presence and have spoken (only) of the dead." |
10:8
And the voice which
I heard from
heaven spake
unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book
which is open
in the hand
of the
angel which standeth
upon the sea and upon the earth. |
53) His
disciples
said to him, "Is circumcision
beneficial or not?" He said to them, "If it were beneficial, their father would beget them already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become completely profitable." |
11:3
And I will give
power unto my two
witnesses, and they
shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and
threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. |
54) Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of heaven." | 11:6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. |
55) Jesus said, "Whoever does not hate his father and his mother cannot become a disciple to me. And whoever does not hate his brothers and sisters and take up his cross in my way will not be worthy of me." |
11:7
And when they shall
have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the
bottomless
pit shall make war against
them, and shall
overcome
them, and kill
them. |
56) Jesus said, "Whoever has come to understand the world has found (only) a corpse, and whoever has found a corpse is superior to the world." |
11:9
And they
of the people and
kindreds and tongues
and nations
shall see
their dead bodies
three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies
to be put
in graves. |
57) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a man who had good seed. His enemy came by night and sowed weeds among the good seed. The man did not allow them to pull up the weeds; he said to them, 'I am afraid that you will go intending to pull up the weeds and pull up the wheat along with them.' For on the day of the harvest the weeds will be plainly visible, and they will be pulled up and burned." |
11:11
And after three
days and an half the spirit of
life from God
entered
into them,
and they stood upon
their feet;
and great fear fell
upon them which
saw them. |
58) Jesus said, "Blessed is the man who has suffered and found life." |
11:18b
and the time of the dead,
that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward
unto thy servants
the prophets, and
to the saints,
and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy
them which
destroy the earth. |
59) Jesus said, "Take heed of the living one while you are alive, lest you die and seek to see him and be unable to do so." |
12:1
And there appeared a
great wonder in
heaven; a woman clothed
with the sun,
and the moon under her feet, and
upon her head a crown of twelve stars: |
60) <They
saw> a Samaritan carrying a lamb
on his way to They said to him, "So that he may kill it and eat it." He said to them, "While it is alive, he will not eat it, but only when he has killed it and it has become a corpse." They said to him, "He cannot do so otherwise." He said to them, "You too, look for a place for yourself within repose, lest you become a corpse and be eaten." |
12:3
And there appeared
another wonder in
heaven; and behold a great red
dragon, having seven
heads and ten horns, and seven crowns
upon his heads. 12:4
And his tail drew
the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth:
and the dragon
stood before the woman which
was ready to
be delivered,
for to devour her child
as soon as
it
was born. 12:5
And she brought
forth a man
child, who was
to rule all
nations
with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his
throne. |
61) Jesus
said, "Two will rest
on a bed:
the
one will die,
and the other
will
live." Salome said, "Who are you, man, that you... have come up on my couch and eaten from my table?" Jesus said to her, "I am he who exists from the undivided. I was given some of the things of my father." <...> "I am your disciple." <...> "Therefore I say, if he is destroyed, he will be filled with light, but if he is divided, he will be filled with darkness." |
12:7
And there was war
in heaven:
Michael and his
angels fought against
the dragon; and
the dragon fought
and
his angels,
12:8 And prevailed
not; neither was their
place found any
more in heaven. 12:9
And the great dragon
was cast out,
that old serpent,
called
the Devil, and
Satan, which deceiveth the
whole world:
he was cast
out into the
earth, and his
angels were cast
out
with him. 12:10
And I heard a loud
voice saying in heaven, Now is come
salvation, and
strength, and the kingdom of
our God,
and the power
of his Christ: for the accuser
of our brethren
is
cast down,
which accused them before our God day and night. |
62) Jesus said, "It is to those who are worthy of my mysteries that I tell my mysteries. Do not let your left (hand) know what your right (hand) is doing." |
12:12
Therefore rejoice,
ye heavens,
and ye that
dwell in them.
Woe to the inhabiters
of the earth
and of the
sea!
for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth
that he hath but a short time. |
63a) Jesus said, "There was a rich man who had much money. He said, 'I shall put my money to use so that I may sow, reap, plant, and fill my storehouse with produce, with the result that I shall lack nothing.' Such were his intentions, but that same night he died. Let him who has ears hear." |
13:1
And I stood upon
the sand of the sea, and saw a beast
rise up out of the sea, having seven
heads and ten
horns, and upon
his
horns ten crowns,
and upon his
heads
the name of
blasphemy. |
63b) Jesus said, "There was a rich man who had much money. He said, 'I shall put my money to use so that I may sow, reap, plant, and fill my storehouse with produce, with the result that I shall lack nothing.' Such were his intentions, but that same night he died. Let him who has ears hear." |
13:3
And I saw one
of his heads
as it were
wounded
to death;
and his deadly wound was healed: and all the
world wondered after the beast. 13:4
And they worshipped
the dragon
which gave
power unto the beast:
and they worshipped the beast,
saying, Who is like unto the beast?
who is able to make war with him?
13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and
blasphemies; and power was given
unto him
to continue forty and two
months. 13:6
And he opened his
mouth in blasphemy
against God,
to blaspheme
his name,
and his tabernacle,
and them that
dwell in
heaven. 13:7
And it was given
unto him to
make war with
the saints,
and to overcome
them: and power was given
him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 13:8
And all that dwell
upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the
book of
life of the
Lamb slain
from the foundation of the world. |
64)
Jesus said, "A man had
received visitors.
And when he
had prepared the
dinner, he sent his
servant to invite
the guests.
He went to the first one and said to him, 'My master invites you.' He said, 'I have claims against some merchants. They are coming to me this evening. I must go and give them my orders. I ask to be excused from the dinner.' He went to another and said to him, 'My master has invited you.' He said to him, 'I have just bought a house and am required for the day. I shall not have any spare time.' He went to another and said to him, 'My master invites you.' He said to him, 'My friend is going to get married, and I am to prepare the banquet. I shall not be able to come. I ask to be excused from the dinner.' He went to another and said to him, 'My master invites you.' He said to him, 'I have just bought a farm, and I am on my way to collect the rent. I shall not be able to come. I ask to be excused.' The servant returned and said to his master, 'Those whom you invited to the dinner have asked to be excused.' The master said to his servant, 'Go outside to the streets and bring back those whom you happen to meet, so that they may dine.' Businessmen and merchants will not enter the places of my father." |
13:10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. |
65) He said, "There was a good man who owned a vineyard. He leased it to tenant farmers so that they might work it and he might collect the produce from them. He sent his servant so that the tenants might give him the produce of the vineyard. They seized his servant and beat him, all but killing him. The servant went back and told his master. The master said, 'Perhaps he did not recognize them.' He sent another servant. The tenants beat this one as well. Then the owner sent his son and said, 'Perhaps they will show respect to my son.' Because the tenants knew that it was he who was the heir to the vineyard, they seized him and killed him. Let him who has ears hear." |

And I looked, and,
lo, a Lamb

66) Jesus
said, "Show me the
stone which the builders
have
rejected.
That one is
the cornerstone." (C.f. Daniel 2:34,35,45) |
14:8
And there followed
another angel, saying, |
67) Jesus said, "If one who knows the all still feels a personal deficiency, he is completely deficient." |
14:12
Here is the
patience of the saints:
here are they that keep
the commandments of
God, and the
faith
of Jesus. |
68) Jesus said, "Blessed are you when you are hated and persecuted. Wherever you have been persecuted they will find no place." |
14:19
And the angel thrust
in his sickle
into the earth,
and
gathered the vine
of the earth,
and
cast it into
the great winepress
of
the wrath of
God. |
69) Jesus said, "Blessed are they who have been persecuted within themselves. It is they who have truly come to know the father. Blessed are the hungry, for the belly of him who desires will be filled." |
15:1
And I
saw another sign in
heaven,
great and marvellous, seven angels having
the
seven last plagues;
for in
them
is
filled
up the wrath
of God. |
70) Jesus said, "That which you have will save you if you bring it forth from yourselves. That which you do not have within you will kill you if you do not have it within you." |
15:2b
and over his
image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the
sea of
glass, having
the harps of
God. 15:3
And they sing the
song of Moses
the servant of God, and the song
of the Lamb,
saying, Great and marvellous are
thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of
saints. 15:4
Who shall not fear
thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made
manifest. |
71)
Jesus
said, "I shall destroy
this house,
and
no one
will be able
to build
it
[...]." ( C.f. Jesus answered and said unto them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up,” John 2:19) |
15:7
And one of the four
beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of
God, who liveth for
ever and ever. |
72) A
man said to him, "Tell my brothers
to divide
my father's possessions
with me."
He said to him, "O man, who has made me a divider?" He turned to his disciples and said to them, "I am not a divider, am I?" |
16:1
And I heard a
great voice out
of the temple
saying to
the seven
angels, Go your ways,
and pour out the vials
of the wrath of God upon the earth. 16:2
And the first went,
and poured
out his vial
upon the earth;
and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the
mark of
the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. 16:3
And the second angel
poured out
his vial upon
the sea;
and it became as
the blood of
a dead man:
and every living
soul died in
the
sea. 16:4
And the third angel
poured out
his vial upon
the rivers
and
fountains of waters; and they became blood. |
73) Jesus said, "The harvest is great but the laborers are few. Beseech the Lord, therefore, to send out laborers to the harvest." |

16:8
And the fourth angel
poured out his
vial upon the sun; and
power was given unto him to scorch men

And men were
scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath
power over
these plagues: and they repented
not to give
him glory. |
75) Jesus said, "Many are standing at the door, but it is the solitary who will enter the bridal chamber." |
16:12

poured out his
vial upon the great
river

of the
kings of the
east might be prepared. |
76) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a merchant who had a consignment of merchandise and who discovered a pearl. That merchant was shrewd. He sold the merchandise and bought the pearl alone for himself. You too, seek his unfailing and enduring treasure where no moth comes near to devour and no worm destroys." |
16:14
For they are the
spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of
the earth and
of the whole
world,
to gather
them to the battle of
that great day of God Almighty. 16:15
Behold, I come
as a thief.
Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments,
lest he walk
naked, and they see his
shame. |
77) Jesus said, "It is I who am the light which is above them all. It is I who am the all. From me did the all come forth, and unto me did the all extend. Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there." |
16:17
And the seventh angel
poured out his
vial into the air;
and there came
a great voice
out of the
temple
of heaven,
from the throne,
saying, It is done. |
78) Jesus said, "Why have you come out into the desert? To see a reed shaken by the wind? And to see a man clothed in fine garments like your kings and your great men? Upon them are the fine garments, and they are unable to discern the truth." |
16:18b
and there was a great earthquake,
such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an
earthquake, and
so great. 16:19
And the great city
was divided
into three parts, and the cities of
the nations fell:

16:20
And every island
fled away, and the mountains were not found. 16:21
And there fell upon men a
great
hail out of heaven,
every stone about the weight of a talent:
and men blasphemed God because of the
plague
of the hail; for the plague thereof
was exceeding great. |
79) A
woman from the
crowd
said to him, "Blessed
are the womb
which bore you
and the breasts which
nourished you."
He said to her, "Blessed are those who have heard the word of the father and have truly kept it. For there will be days when you will say, 'Blessed are the womb which has not conceived and the breasts which have not given milk.'" |

the judgment
of the great
whore that sitteth
upon many waters:
17:2 With whom the kings of
the earth have
committed fornication,
and the inhabitants of the
earth have been made drunk with the
wine of her fornication. 17:3
So he carried me
away in the
spirit into the
wilderness:
and I saw a woman
sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having
seven
heads and ten horns. 17:4
And the woman
was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and
precious
stones and pearls, having a golden cup
in her hand
full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
17:5 And upon her forehead
was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE
GREAT, THE MOTHER OF
HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS
OF THE EARTH. 17:6
And I saw the woman
drunken with
the blood
of the saints,
and with the blood
of the martyrs
of Jesus:
and when I saw her, I wondered with great
admiration. |
80)
Jesus
said, "He who has
recognized the world
has found the body,
but he who has found
the body
is superior
to the world." ( C.f. He who has found ”the book of life”... ”has found the body“ and “the mind which hath wisdom“... The One Body) |
17:8
The beast that
thou sawest was,
and is not; and shall ascend
out of the bottomless
pit, and go into
perdition: and they that dwell on the earth
shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of
life from the
foundation of the world,
when they behold the beast
that was, and is not, and yet is. |
81) Jesus said, "Let him who has grown rich be king, and let him who possesses power renounce it." |
17:10
And there are
seven kings:
five are fallen, and
one is, and the other is
not yet come;
and
when he cometh,
he must continue
a
short space. 17:11
And the beast that
was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth
into
perdition. 17:12
And the ten horns
which thou sawest are ten kings, which have
received no kingdom
as yet;
but receive power as kings
one hour with the beast. |
82) Jesus said, "He who is near me is near the fire, and he who is far from me is far from the kingdom." |
17:14
These shall make
war with the
Lamb, and the Lamb
shall
overcome them: for he is Lord
of lords, and
King of
kings: and they that are
with him
are called, and chosen, and faithful. |
83) Jesus said, "The images are manifest to man, but the light in them remains concealed in the image of the light of the father. He will become manifest, but his image will remain concealed by his light." |
18:1
And after these
things I saw
another angel come
down from heaven,
having great power; and the earth was
lightened with his
glory. 18:2
And he cried
mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great
is fallen, is
fallen, and is
become the habitation
of
devils, and the hold of every foul
spirit, and a
cage of every unclean and hateful bird. 18:3
For all nations
have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication, and the kings of the earth
have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth
are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. 18:4
And I heard
another
voice from heaven,
saying, Come out of her, my people,
that ye be not partakers of her
sins, and that ye receive not of
her
plagues. |
84) Jesus said, "When you see your likeness, you rejoice. But when you see your images which came into being before you, and which neither die not become manifest, how much you will have to bear!" |
18:6
Reward her even as
she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in
the cup
which she hath filled fill to her double. 18:7
How much she
hath glorified herself,
and lived deliciously,
so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit
a queen,
and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. |
85) Jesus said, "Adam came into being from a great power and a great wealth, but he did not become worthy of you. For had he been worthy, he would not have experienced death." | 18:9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, 18:10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. |
86) Jesus said, "The foxes have their holes and the birds have their nests, but the son of man has no place to lay his head and rest." |
18:11
And the merchants
of the
earth shall weep and
mourn over her; for no man
buyeth
their merchandise
any more: |
87) Jesus said, "Wretched is the body that is dependant upon a body, and wretched is the soul that is dependent on these two." |
18:16
And saying, Alas, alas
that great
city, that was clothed
in fine linen, and purple, and

88) Jesus said, "The angels and the prophets will come to you and give to you those things you (already) have. And you too, give them those things which you have, and say to yourselves, 'When will they come and take what is theirs?'" |
18:20
Rejoice over her,
thou heaven, and ye holy apostles
and prophets;
for God hath avenged you on her. 18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, |
89) Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup? Do you not realize that he who made the inside is the same one who made the outside?" |
18:21b
and cast it into
the sea,
saying, Thus with violence shall that great

90) Jesus said, "Come unto me, for my yoke is easy and my lordship is mild, and you will find repose for yourselves." |
18:23b
and the voice of
the bridegroom
and of the bride shall be heard no more
at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy
sorceries were all
nations deceived. |
91) They
said to him, "Tell us who
you are so that we
may believe in
you." He said to them, "You read the face of the sky and of the earth, but you have not recognized the one who is before you, and you do not know how to read this moment." |
19:5
And a voice came
out of the throne, saying, Praise our God,
all ye his
servants,
and ye that
fear him,
both small
and great. 19:6
And I heard as it
were the voice
of a great
multitude, and as
the
voice of many
waters, and as
the
voice of mighty
thunderings, saying,
Alleluia:
for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. |
92) Jesus said, "Seek and you will find. Yet, what you asked me about in former times and which I did not tell you then, now I do desire to tell, but you do not inquire after it." |
19:8
And to her was
granted that she
should be arrayed
in
fine linen, clean
and white:
for the fine linen
is the righteousness
of saints. 19:9
And he saith unto
me, Write,
Blessed are they
which are called
unto the marriage
supper
of the Lamb.
And he saith unto me, These are the
true sayings of
God. |
93)
<Jesus
said,>
"Do not
give what is
holy to dogs,
lest they
throw them on
the dung-heap.
Do
not throw the pearls
to swine, lest they [...] it
[...]." ( C.f. “Lest they trample them i.e. [The Sayings or Testimonies of Jesus] under their feet,” Matthew 7:6. ) |
19:10b I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. |
94) Jesus said, "He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in." | 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. |
95) Jesus
said, "If you have
money,
do not lend
it at interest,
but give it
to one
from whom you will not get it back." |
19:12
His eyes were as a
flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a
name
written, that no
man knew, but
he
himself. 19:13
And he was clothed
with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is
called The Word
of
God. 19:14
And the armies
which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine
linen,
white and clean. |
96) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman. She took a little leaven, concealed it in some dough, and made it into large loaves. Let him who has ears hear." |
19:16
And he hath on his
vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS,
AND LORD OF
LORDS. 19:17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; |
97) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman who was carrying a jar full of meal. While she was walking on the road, still some distance from home, the handle of the jar broke and the meal emptied out behind her on the road. She did not realize it; she had noticed no accident. When she reached her house, she set the jar down and found it empty." | 19:18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. |
98) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain man who wanted to kill a powerful man. In his own house he drew his sword and stuck it into the wall in order to find out whether his hand could carry through. Then he slew the powerful man." |
19:19
And I saw the beast, and the kings of
the earth,
and their armies, gathered
together to make
war against him
that sat on the horse, and
against his army. 19:20
And the beast was
taken, and
with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which
he
deceived them that had
received the mark
of the
beast, and them
that worshipped his
image.
These both
were cast alive
into a lake
of
fire burning with
brimstone. |
99) The
disciples said to him, "Your brothers and
your mother
are standing outside."
He said to them, "Those here who do the will of my father are my brothers and my mother. It is they who will enter the kingdom of my father." |
20:1
And I saw an angel
come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great
chain
in his hand. |
100) They
showed Jesus a gold coin
and said to him, "Caesar's men
demand
taxes from us." He said to them, "Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, give God what belongs to God, and give me what is mine." |
20:4b
and which had not
worshipped the
beast, neither his image,
neither had received
his mark
upon their foreheads, or in their
hands; and they lived and
reigned with Christ
a thousand years. |
101) <Jesus said,> "Whoever does not hate his father and his mother as I do cannot become a disciple to me. And whoever does not love his father and his mother as I do cannot become a disciple to me. For my mother [...], but my true mother gave me life." |
20:7
And when the
thousand years are expired, Satan
shall be loosed out of his prison, 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations
which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog,
to gather them
together to battle: the number of
whom is as
the
sand of the
sea. |
102) Jesus said, "Woe to the pharisees, for they are like a dog sleeping in the manger of oxen, for neither does he eat nor does he let the oxen eat." |
20:09b
and devoured them. |
103) Jesus said, "Fortunate is the man who knows where the brigands will enter, so that he may get up, muster his domain, and arm himself before they invade." |
20:11
And I saw a
great
white throne, and
him that sat
on
it, from whose face the
earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found
no place for
them. 20:12
And I saw the
dead, small and great, stand before God;
and the books were
opened: and another
book was opened,
which
is the book
of life:
and the dead
were judged out of those things which
were written in
the books,
according to their
works. 20:13
And the sea gave
up the dead
which were in it; and death and hell
delivered up the dead
which
were in them:
and they were judged
every man according to their
works. 20:14
And death and hell
were cast into
the lake of fire. This
is the second death. |
104) They
said to Jesus, "Come, let us
pray today and
let
us fast."
Jesus said, "What is the sin that I have committed, or wherein have I been defeated? But when the bridegroom leaves the bridal chamber, then let them fast and pray." |
21:1
And I
saw a
new heaven and
a new
earth:
for the
first heaven and
the
first earth were
passed away;
and there
was no more sea. |
105) Jesus said, "He who knows the father and the mother will be called the son of a harlot." |
21:3
And I heard a
great voice out
of heaven
saying,
Behold, the
tabernacle of God is with
men, and he
will
dwell with them,
and they shall
be
his people,
and God himself shall
be with them,
and be their
God. |
106) Jesus said, "When you make the two one, you will become the sons of man, and when you say, 'Mountain, move away,' it will move away." |
21:5
And he that sat
upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things
new. And
he said unto me,
Write: for these words are true and faithful. |
107) Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine sheep and looked for that one until he found it. When he had gone to such trouble, he said to the sheep, 'I care for you more than the ninety-nine.'" | 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. |
108) Jesus said, "He who will drink from my mouth will become like me. I myself shall become he, and the things that are hidden will be revealed to him." | 21:9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. |
109a) Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a man who had a hidden treasure in his field without knowing it. And after he died, he left it to his son. The son did not know (about the treasure). He inherited the field and sold it. And the one who bought it went plowing and found the treasure. He began to lend money at interest to whomever he wished." |
21:10
And he carried me
away in the spirit to a great and
high mountain,
and shewed
me that great city,
the holy 21:11
Having the glory
of God: and her light was like unto a stone most
precious, even
like a jasper
stone, clear as
crystal; 21:12
And had a wall
great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels,
and names written
thereon, which are
the names
of the twelve tribes
of the children
of |
109b) Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a man who had a hidden treasure in his field without knowing it. And after he died, he left it to his son. The son did not know (about the treasure). He inherited the field and sold it. And the one who bought it went plowing and found the treasure. He began to lend money at interest to whomever he wished." |
21:15
And he that talked
with me had a golden reed
to measure the city,
and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 21:16
And the city
lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he
measured the city
with the
reed, twelve thousand
furlongs. The
length and the
breadth and the height of it are equal. 21:17
And he measured
the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the
measure of a
man, that is,
of the
angel. |
109c) Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a man who had a hidden treasure in his field without knowing it. And after he died, he left it to his son. The son did not know (about the treasure). He inherited the field and sold it. And the one who bought it went plowing and found the treasure. He began to lend money at interest to whomever he wished." |
21:19
And the
foundations of the wall of the city
were garnished with all manner of precious stones.
The first foundation was jasper;
the second, sapphire;
the
third, a
chalcedony;
the fourth, an emerald; 21:20
The fifth, sardonyx;
the
sixth, sardius;
the seventh, chrysolyte;
the eighth, beryl;
the ninth, a topaz;
the tenth, a chrysoprasus;
the eleventh, a jacinth;
the twelfth, an amethyst. |
110) Jesus said, "Whoever finds the world and becomes rich, let him renounce the world." |
21:22
And I saw no
temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple
of it. |
111) Jesus said, "The heavens and the earth will be rolled up in your presence. And the one who lives from the living one will not see death." Does not Jesus say, "Whoever finds himself is superior to the world?" |
21:25
And the gates of
it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. 21:26
And they shall bring
the glory and
honour of the
nations
into it. 21:27
And there shall
in no wise
enter into it
any thing
that defileth,
neither whatsoever worketh abomination,
or maketh a lie: but they which are
written in the Lamb's
book of life. ( C.f. “Written in the… book (or scroll) of life” with “will be rolled up“ ) |
112) Jesus said, "Woe to the flesh that depends on the soul; woe to the soul that depends on the flesh." |
22:1
And he shewed me a
pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of
God and of the Lamb. |
113)
His disciples said to him, "When will the
kingdom come?"
<Jesus said,> "It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be a matter of saying 'here it is' or 'there it is.' Rather, the kingdom of the father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it." |
22:5
And there shall be
no night there;
and they need no candle,
neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign
for ever and
ever. |
114a) Simon
Peter said to him, "Let Mary leave
us, for women
are not worthy of life."
Jesus said, "I myself shall lead her in order to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every woman who will make herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven." |
22:13
I am Alpha
and Omega, the
beginning and the
end,
the first and
the last. 22:14
Blessed are they
that do his
commandments, that they
may have right to
the tree of
life, and may enter in through
the gates into
the city. 22:15
For without are dogs,
and sorcerers, and
whoremongers, and murderers,
and idolaters,
and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. |
114b)
Simon
Peter said to him,
"Let Mary
leave us, for
women are not
worthy
of life."
The
Gospel
According to Thomas |
22:17
And the Spirit
and
the bride say,
Come. And let him that
heareth say, Come.
And let him
that
is athirst come.
And whosoever will,
let him
take the water
of life freely. 22:18
For I testify unto
every man
that heareth the
words of the
prophecy
of this book, If any man
shall add unto
these things, God shall add
unto him the plagues
that are written in this book: 22:19 And if any man
shall take away
from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take
away his part
out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things
which
are written in this book. 22:20
He which
testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly.
Amen. Even
so, come, Lord Jesus. 22:21
The grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ be with
you all. Amen.

The Addendum The Original Gospel Received by Jesus Christ https://takethescroll.blogspot.ca The basis of this side
by side comparison of scripture was the realization that the Gospel scribed by
Thomas could be the original Gospel of Jesus Christ. The New Testament writings
all seemed to be building upon this Testimony
of Jesus. |
Thomas introduces this
gospel as “the secret sayings of the living Jesus.” Though presented
openly to all who might listen, this gospel appears to be a more
spiritually-minded message with hidden
insights for those who will seek diligently and is tailored primarily for those
who forsake
all to follow Christ. It seems like Jesus delivered this "Original Gospel"
to those closest to him, and to those who walked with him in His Way.
Later, writers like James, Paul, Peter, and John appear to create their
own letters following the pattern provided to them by Jesus within this
gospel. The New Testament can be seen as the apostles applying this Preaching
of Jesus Christ to the circumstances of their own
communities. May we rightly divide
the scriptures, give attendance to reading, and meditate upon the words of
Jesus that our profiting may appear to all. |
