The two most important things you need to give your Lovebird are Love and Respect. If you give them this you will have a life long companion!
DietThere diet should not consist of all seed. Pellets are the best complete diet. I like Roudybush. They should be given vegetables such as Broccoli, carrots, green peppers, corn. Just remember what is healthy for you is healthy for them. My birds love things like multi grain cherrios, chex, air popped pop corn. I like to rotate there foods so they don't get bored.
CageCage should be about 14" by 22" by 18". Bar spacing should not be any wider that 1/2". Your bird should not be able to get there head through. I use Care Fresh to line the bottom of my cage's. I find that it absorbs odors very well. All dishes should be washed with hot water and soap at least every other day and a good disinfectant used once a week on cage and dish's.
ToysYour bird should have plenty to explore and play with. Perches should be all different sizes and shapes. They love bells but you need to make sure they can not get the clapper out of it. Toys should consist of rawhide, untreated leather, ladders and ropes. Ropes should be kept trim at all times so that they cannot get there heads or feet caught in them. All toys should be checked to make sure they are not broke or that there is nothing for them to get themself's caught on. Also all toys should be disinfected once a week.
