On January 13, 1913 on the campus of Howard University twenty-two young, scholarly, and ambitious black women founded what has today become the largest Black Greek Letter Organization for African American women. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a not for profit organization with membership of over 200,000 college educated women whose main objectives are scholarship, sisterhood, and service.
The Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was founded on May 12, 1934 on the campus of South Carolina State University (then South Carolina State College). Today, sixty-six years later, the sorors of Alpha Xi continue to strive for excellence in academics and service to all.
