Trusting The Eyes

The 18 year old male stood in front of the mirror in his room. For the last 10 minutes he was trying to get his dirty blonde locks tied perfectly behind his head. He was getting ready for his date with Ashley.

“Ike?”

“Yeah Tay?”

“Will you help me with this tie?”

“Taylor, I don’t have the time for that. Learn yourself.”

“Oh. Okay.” Upset, his brother left the room. Seconds later, Isaac’s younger sister, Jessica walked up to him.

“Where’s my Backstreet Boys CD? Did you take it from my room? I can’t find it anywhere!”

“Jess! No! What the hell would I want with your stupid CD?” Finally giving up on his hair, Isaac Hanson pushed by a shocked Jessica and started down the stairs.

“Oh! Ike! Be home early! I need you to watch the kids for me!” His mother, Mrs. Hanson spoke.

“Get Taylor to do it! I’m NOT going to be home in time! He never does anything!” Walker stepped into the conversation after his son had his outburst.

“Don’t talk to your Mother like that, Isaac. Be home by 10:00.” Rolling his eyes, the teen growled and nodded his head. He was supposed to pick up his date 5 minutes ago but it seemed like each of his family members needed his attention. Sometimes he felt as if he was more of a parent figure then his own mother and father. Although it usually never bothered him that his siblings treated him like an adult, it did today. Isaac felt he was still a child himself, since most of his childhood was taken away. His mother used him like a built in babysitter or family counselor.

“Hey, Ike? Mom wants you to pick up Avery from her friends house and can you drop me off at the mall on your way to your girlfriend’s house?”

“NO! I cannot do that or any of that! I’m not your damn servant! I’m not a chauffeur and I’m not a freaking babysitter!! WALK, ZAC!”

With that, he stormed out of the house almost knocking Taylor and Mackie over. He ran to his car, turning it on and angrily driving backwards down the driveway. Once on the roads of Bixby, Oklahoma, he sped off hitting speeds of 60 and 70 mph. Isaac kept thinking how unfair his life was and how he didn’t feel loved, he felt used. Suddenly, a deer hopped out of the trees and ran in front of the car. Isaac attempted to slam on his brakes but only caused the car to skid, hit the fleeing deer and then smash head on into a tree. The young adult felt relaxed and tired as he watched the white light come closer and closer.

“Come with me... Come with me, Isaac...”

Though he wanted to trust the pure light, something told him not to follow it. He looked away and saw bright blue eyes crying. Immediately he knew those eyes. Those eyes were the eyes of his loving mother. he could see the love inside her dark irises. Pushing away from the light, he looked deeply in her eyes, seeing not only her soul, but the souls of his father, brothers and sisters weeping from sorrow. The amount of love he saw overwhelmed him and he held onto everything he had, knowing he must wake up and tell his mother he loved her back.

The room was dark and Isaac could hear someone crying. Completely helpless, he called out to the only name he could ever fully trust.

“Mom?” he whispered.

“I love you...”
