I'm Back April 24th, 2000
Hello Everyone! Yes, I'm finally getting around to making an entry. Mostly, I've been inspired by Lyra's Baby Island entry. I wish to provide a rebuttal to some of her comments. The babies are now 3 weeks old. Actually, today is their official due date! I would like to thank everyone who sent e-mails and those who've inquired about us through Lyra. We are all doing well, and I'm feeling more confident as the days pass. Joe and I are both extremely tired a lot, but we are learning how to get along with less sleep. For me, it's not how many times they get me up at night, it's how long it takes them to go back to sleep once I lay them down! That's when I want to scream. I'm so tired, and they just lay there and fuss. Sometimes it takes an hour for BOTH of them to calm down and sleep. Because it's either both or it doesn't matter. As long as one is awake, I'm awake. They like to play tag team sleeping a lot. Now....as for Lyra's comments.... Birdie and Joe had decided to go to a movie while we were there with the girls, so we got there in time to get the last minute instructions. Well, they are more like "last hour" instructions when Birdie gives them. Now come on! I hardly gave an hour's worth of instructions. We were rushing around as it was trying to get to the movie on time, let alone giving you THAT many instructions. It just FELT that way to you, because you wanted us to hurry up and leave so you could spoil them all by yourselves! She pulls out all 900 outfits to show which will fit which baby and to tell us under what conditions we may feel we need to use one of them in the hour and a half they are gone. Now THAT is an out and out LIE! I had the cute little outfits that I thought you would have fun dressing them up in for pictures, and their bed clothes for after their baths. That was it!
So what is this I see on top of the basket when I arrive???? Brand spanking new outfits, MATCHING little pants and shirt, with adorable little hats, everything white trimmed in pink! First of all, I do not on a regular basis dress them alike. Nor do I plan to do so. Second, they were ON SALE! Third, they were PREEMIE size, which is a size that actually fits them at this point. IÕm tired of them getting lost in huge baggie clothing. Fourth, I thought they would look cute in them when we took them to their first Easter service. And lastly, you should have noticed that I did not buy them matching girly DRESSES. They were PANTS and BUTTONED SHIRTS. So there!
Next thing you know, I will arrive at Birdie's house and there she will be, sitting on the floor in her matching mother daughter outfits playing baby dolls. heh, heh, heh. I will play school, play house, and occasionally play hookie with my girls, but I'm sure that I will not be a good model at playing dolls! I grew up with two older brothers. I played with G.I. Joe's, Matchbox cars, and Tonka trucks! We played Army and climbed trees! I will share my expertise in these areas, thank you. Okay, so back to instructions. Added into the times, the amounts, what to look for in each diaper, I got instructions on how to get pictures of the girls while she was gone. I'm a teacher. I keep records. So sue me. I won't be doing it for long, but it keeps me confident that they are both getting enough to eat and are healthy. She wants me, amateur photographer, last place finisher in rookie-of-the-year contest, to take pictures of TWO squirmy, TWO sleepy TWO spitty-uppy babies so that she canÉ send them to her relatives. I haven't had time to take any cute pictures of them after they've had their baths...which is usually when they are awake. So I thought you could take a few since you had planned on taking some anyway. I had NO expectations on the quality. If a few turn out, I might make some extra copies and send to people. You were reading too much into that assignment, dearie! At this point Joni has her "whattya, NUTS?" frown on her face. Taylor was losing a battle with her eyelids, pulling with all her might with each eyebrow, but to no avail; not a sliver of eyeball was showing. Her tongue was, though, that's a good thing. Now you know why we still don't have any good pictures of them together yet!! Joni with her snorts and Flipper talk, and Taylor with all her squeaky toy noises at the same time, bubbles exploding from each of four ends; we were quite entertained! And the faces. Joni is a little more intense. Her glare is designed to question whether you really got your parenting diploma before she was born. Then she sucks in her bottom lip, and locks it tight when she is done eating, looking for all the world like the before picture in an advertisement for dentures. Her sister has the Popeye the drunken sailor look perfected. While she is studying the whole concept of opening your eyes without them rolling back in your head, she is already rooting for dinner. She turns her mouth all the way to one ear looking for something to latch onto. The only thing funnier than that look on Taylor is that look on her mommy when she imitates her (perfectly). I couldn't have described them any better! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit, Lyra. Joe and I really appreciated the time away together!
