In Spanish the colors (adjectives) and the surrounding words (nouns and articles) are related or linked because they all have the same gender. That is, the noun - as the nucleus - determines whether the adjectives and articles are masculine or feminine.

They show this linkage in their endings.

- Sometimes they share a common ending vowel. - For example:

UNA BLUSA BLANCA (femenine) ---------- UN GATO BLANCO (masculine)
(a white blouse ------------ a white cat).

The colors
BLANCO, NEGRO, AMARILLO, ROJO, ROSADO, and MORADO
change their ending from - O -, for masculine nouns,
to - A - for femenine nouns.

(BLANCA - NEGRA - AMARILLA - ROJA - ROSADA - MORADA).

The colors
VERDE, GRIS, AZUL, MARRÓN, CELESTE, ROSA, MOSTAZA, LILA, CREMA (BEIGE), and NARANJA
do not change their endings.

UN GATO GRIS ------ UNA BLUSA GRIS
