I went to New Orleans to see my house. There is nothing left to salvage. The city looks like it was hit by a bomb. It is a ghost town. There is a gray pallor over the whole horizon. There are cars now riding around a bit; but there is an emptiness that is pervasive. However, to be honest, "the destruction" is the most catching image of the scene. Also, it was sobering to think that there were still dead people lying in houses around the city.
Everywhere you looked, the houses were destroyed and devastated. They all had the same look about them. Structural zombies! Inside of my house was even a more personal, destroyed reality. You could not even walk 6 inches into the house. If the picture could be panned, you would see the real story. To be able to just scan around the rest of the block would show the twilight zone that the city is.
