Welcome to the "Darley Society's" Information Page

The Darley Society has been founded (4/1999) by Ray & Judith Hester and is currently in the process of becoming a fully functioning, non-profit "art history" and "community" organization.

The Society operates out of Darley Manor Inn, Bed & Breakfast, Felix Darley's Delaware home. Ray & Judith bought and renovated this house in 1991 and opened as a B&B in 1993.

The society is dedicated to the world-wide rememberance of Felix Darley, and helping "his" local community in the art arena via sponsoring a permanent exhibit of his works here and sponsoring local art exhibits of other artists ... of all types, and ages.

A very diverse Board of Directors and Advisory Board is in place and 'working.' They represent community leaders, business & professional leaders, and those experienced in the 'arts.' The Society is MOST fortunate to have directors of such quality.

For more information, go to:

SOCIETY ... MISSION ... with "explanations":

I. SOCIETY OBJECTIVE (Mission) :

To "elevate" and then "sustain" the awareness of Felix Octavius Darley's
contributions to illustrative art, both in his day (1821-88) and today, and to
raise awareness of art history and art appreciation in the Claymont and other
         Brandywine Hundred communities.

 II. KEY STRATEGIES:

         A. Support planned, and initiate new, exhibitions of Darley's works ... locally AND
                   in other areas
         B. Establish an "ongoing" exhibit of Darley's works IN CLAYMONT
         B. Maintain an Internet "Darley Home Page"
         C. Pursue Darley's "installation" into the Illustrator's Hall of Fame (in New York)
         D. Pursue all types of publicity for Darley's work (newspapers, TV, magazines, etc.)
         E. Bring exhibits of other artists, of all forms and periods, to Brandwine Hundred
         F. Establish and fund a Darley "art" scholarship for LOCAL youth (local, ??)
