"Shirley Temple's Stories That Never Grow Old," Random House, Inc., NY, NY, 1958
This was 1 of a series of Temple Story Books by Random House; this one contained "Rip Van Winkle" and 4 others.
It's interesting to note that there were 2 other books, with 10 more stories. The book mentions neither that Irving was the author of "Rip Van Winkle", nor that Darley was the illustrator whose drawings were used for the book. Of course, the color was added by the publisher for these books. Darley's originals were simply line drawings.
The book notes that "fifteen of the best-known artists in America were selected to illustrate Shirley Temple's Storybook. Their enchanting drawings, along with stories that have stood the test of time
make this book a treasured possession for any child."
Too bad that Irving and Darley are not mentioned.// Web Site Editor, Ray Hester
