Heat to sign LaPhonso Ellis
With last year's starting SF,, Bruce Bowen, seemingly on the way out. Pat Riley seem
ready to fill his void with another blue-collar guy in LaPhonso Ellis. However, unlike Bowen, Ellis has more of an all-around game. A career 14 ppg scorer, in 1996-97, the 6-7 Notre Dame alum, averaged 21.6 ppg.
LaPhonso Ellis once had the reputation of an intimidating leaper and rebounder. In fact, his game was eerily similar to the game of Antonio McDyess, before a series of injuries. Last year, McDyess played in all 82 games for Minnesota, backing up Wally Sczerbiak and Kevin Garnett. Overcoming a serious injuries to the knee and achilles tendon, Riles has found the type of blue-collar ball player that he absolutely loves to coach. Hopefully for Miami, he can be produce offensively from that SF position.
