St. Autor’s Well
Maursmuenster, Alsace, France
In 830 Bishop Drogo of Metz presented the Cloister Maursmuenster with the relics of Saints Celestus and Autor. Originally they were to have been given to the city of Strasbourg. But as the ox cart carrying the holy relics neared Maursmuenster, the oxen stopped in a meadow nearby and would not move. Attempts to goad them into moving resulted in the oxen stamping the ground so heavily that a spring burst forth. This was named the St. Autor’s Spring and was useful in curing various illnesses.
