Sirona Well
Nierstein, Mainz County, Rheinland Pfalz
Nierstein is along the Rhine south of the city of Mainz.
On the Nierstein Track in the vicinity of a sulfur well an underground temple was discovered with an altar dedicated to Apollo and Sirona. After this discovery in 1802, it was called the "Sirona Well". Further excavations uncovered votive offerings and coins, indicating its use from the 1st to the 3rd centuries A. D. The well was long used as a healing well, and later for industrial purposes.
