Conversion Corner: Chaos Lord

From out of the warp, the black armoured horror came, commanding legions of traitor marines. In the pale red glow of his powersword, his unyielding steel body made a frightfull silhoute. He is Chaos made Flesh. Well, enough with the fluff! What I've done here is gone through some neat bits and whipped up a killer Chaos Lord that anyone can build. When you're done with my steps, you get a Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour with Combi Weapon and Powersword.
Make sure all your parts are free of flash and mold lines
These are the pieces you'll need. from left to right, they are the powermace from a chaos terminator, combiweapon arm from a chaos terminator (whichever one tickles your fancy), chaos terminator body (any body but Abaddon's will do fine), metal chaos warrior head from the Fantasy Battles Chaos Warrior Regiment, two blade thingies from a Dark Eldar Talos, and finally a sword arm from the Chaos Warrior regiment. My pieces were in my bits, so some are primed now, but it's not necessary at this point. Eventually, this will be primed black after assembly.
Don't forget to save your bits for future projects
Now what we need to do is start cutting. Cut the power mace off of the arm (being very careful to mind his thumb! He'll need that!). Then, cut the sword off of the chaos warrior arm. Naturally, you'll want to put your unused arm and power mace in your bits box. Lastly, there's a little round nub on the back of the Warrior head. You'll need to CAREFULLY shave that off, so it'll fit flush on the termie body.
Krazy Glue is your friend...
This next step is easy. Mount the sword blade on the arm, using some putty to build up part of the handle under the hilt (otherwise it won't fit right with the way his thumb is). Put the Chaos Warrior head on the Termie body. My Terminator body was a bit magled, so I had to use some putty to make it fit right. The Chaos Warrior head doesn't weigh much, so pinning it is unnecessary. I guess you could pin it if you really really wanted to.
Oooh! He's areodynamic now!
Remember those blades I told you to get from the Talos? Well, now you put them on the model. These will fit nicely in the grooves meant for the Chaos Terminator trophy racks. Once again, these do not need to be pinned.
Hey, now we're getting somewhere
Now, glue his arms on and prime him completely black. For these next steps, I popped off my Chaos Lord's arms so that you can get a better look at how to continue. I suggest leaving the arms on your Terminator as you work on him. Using mine for a guide, drybrush Boltgun Metal and Gold for the various trim and accents.
Slowly, our project progresses
This next step is another easy one. Drybrush Bleached Bone on his sword grip, horns, and skull helmet ornament. For better results, put down a light brown first on these areas before hitting it with the bleached bone.
Um, you still have the arms glued on your Chaos Lord, right?
At this stage, we're going to use Blood Red right out of the bottle on some accents (like the iris on the Eye of Horus on his belt and shoulder). Using some true blue (I don't know what Citadel paint corresponds, sorry) we're going to paint two of the three tubes on his body and the wire bundles on his weapons. Then, taking a lighter shade of blue, drybrush these areas.
Look Ma! No hands!!
Now, with Dark Angel Green, we paint his helmet plume and the last tube on the Termie body. After that, we're going to drybrush Goblin Green over it. It highlights it rather well.
You'd be a fool not to give your chars Power Weapons
There are about a thousand different ways to paint power weapons. I found this firey motif was rather interesting. paint the whole blade with a bright yellow. Then, put a layer of Blazing Orange in the middle of the blade, making sure the edges of this area are jagged. Then, you take Blood Red and paint from the sword hilt up and partly over lapping the Blazing Orange. Lastly, you put some white on the very tip of the sword. You should do all these steps while everything is still pretty wet to facilitate blurring the edges. I've done this sword method on Legion of the Damned guys and it looks great. In all honesty, this sword could be better.
Side View Head On Side View
Okay, paint his stand Goblin Green, hit him with some overcoat, and take him into battle!
See? I told you he was easy
