Doodles and Noodles

Like every other collector, I have a story behind why I collect My Little Ponies. And if you want to be bored to death, read on!  ;)  Here's my life story...

I began collecting My Little Ponies when I was probably about 3 or 4 years old. My mother bought them for me rather than other toys, such as Barbie, because she beleived that they were a better role model. Little did she know they would become an obsession... :)

I had tons of them. My collection started about the time the 3rd year of the My Little Ponies. I got my first ever pony for Christmas that year. It was Sparkler. I thought she was the coolest thing. She was purple (my favorite color!), was a unicorn, and even came with her own brush, tail ribbon, and smelly sticker. From that moment on, I was hooked. For my birthday that year, I received several more. Moonstone quickly became another one of my favorites, with her multi colored hair. My sister also began to like ponies, and she recieved Megan and Sundance that year, though Megan somehow ended up buried in the backyard without her clothes like all the Barbies that people would get her.

During the next year, among many others, I recieved Baby Lickety Split, and SS Wind Whistler. The So Soft ponies were the best because they were "fuzzily". She quickly became the favorite of all my ponies. After awhile, she became just like the UK version in that her flocking became so worn there was only a little left on her nose, and under her belly. But she went everywhere with me. My mom would try to tell me to leave her at home when we went places, she was so dirty. The summer after I got her, we got a kiddie pool for the backyard. She went swimming with me every day. After we were done, my mom would make me leave her outside in the sun so that she could dry off. Because of this, she developed very bleached hair and body.

Over the years, I recieved tons more ponies, and some buildings. Another one of my faves was Cheif, since I was kinda a tomboy at that time. I used to pretend that there was a fire and the other ponies were trapped in Paridise Estates, and Cheif would have to come and save them all. Since I didn't have Paradise Estate, some couch cushins arranged in a square had to do.

I also recieved 2 Dream Beauties that year for Christmas. They were the kind with the huge wings. I liked those a lot, since they were more like regular ponies, and they made me feel older. Unfortunataly, that feeling of being older also led me to beleive that I was too old for My Little Ponies. So the summer after I decided that, I decided to sell them. Every year there was a little neighborhood flea market, and I always took some of the toys I didn't want there to make a little bit of money. I gathered up all of my ponies, and took them down with some other odds and ends. And then, I proceeded to sell them all for .25 cents apeice. That is a day that makes me cringe every time I think about it. And because of the manner in which I sold them, I have no way of getting them back.

Later in life, as I was looking through some old photo albums, I came across a picture of myself when I was 7 with all of my scores of ponies. It made me start to think about what I had given up, and how I wished I had them now. That summer, I went back to the same flea market I had sold them at as a kid, and I found 8 ponies there. Most of them were $1.00 each, and I remember passing some up that weren't exactally perfect or something. I thought at that time that $1.00 was too much to pay. Boy, did I have a lot to learn...

Later that year, I decided to check on the internet to see if I could find the names of some I had gotten. Not only did I discover that, but also that there was quite a larg community of people who collected My Little Ponies online, many my own age. This surprised me, as I thought I was the only one. But it was good to know I was not alone. Over this year, my collection has grown from 10 to 150+. Many friends have been nice enough to help me increase my collection simply by giving me some, and the rest I have purchased at flea markets and from people online. Some think it's a waste (sister, family, some friends!), but I couldn't disagree more. They make me happy, and remind me of my childhood. None can ever replace those that I have lost, but I still love the ones I have! :)
