DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY

Developmental psychology is the study of the changes that occur throughout life, from birth to death. Personally, i have only taken a course in child development; although, i will be doing one on aging this upcoming semester.

In the field of child development there are 3 basic issues which concern researchers:

  1. how to describe the developing child,
  2. what the course of development is like, and
  3. what factors determine/influence development

The last issue is one of the most enduring questions in the history of psychology and refers to the nature-nurture controversy. Today there appears to be a new understanding that both genetics and the environment contribute to the development process; however, how much each contibrutes to a specific area of development is still uncertain.

Some topic areas focused on by developmental researchers are:
