The pentagram is a very powerful protective amulet. The number five has mystical powers, perhaps because it is considered the signature for man, its rays representing the five points of the human body or the human hand. The five points of the pentagram also represents the five elements, earth, air, fire, water, and spirit. Pythagoreans considered this an amulet for health.
Materials needed:
14 gauge silver or tinned copper wire 30 inches long
diagonal pliers
long nosed pliers
jar or cylinder with a 3 inch diameter
piece of wood
5 brads or nails 1 inch in size
resin core solder
250 watt soldering iron or torch
Make a template of a pentagram with a 3 inch diameter and trace the template on top of the wood, placing nails at each point of star. Remove the paper.
Cut your wire in half (15 inch). Use one of these wires to wrap tightly around one nail, then extend the wire diagonally to each nail in turn, bending the wire sharply, to form a pentagram. Leave about 1/4 inch extra wire at the beginning/ending nail, clipping the excess with the diagonal pliers. This will eventually form the loop.
Solder each inner joint of the star, one at a time, for about 2 minutes, allowing the solder to flow freely. You may need to weigh the joints down with about a non-flammable 2 lb weight to get them to contact flush.
Remove the nails and wrap the remaining piece of wire around the cylinder, twisting the ends around each other to secure the circle. Solder this joint and remove from the cylinder.
Rest the star on the circle, making sure the star's loop is opposite the soldered joint of your circle. Solder the points of contact, then solder the straight piece of wire and loop. Clip off any excess.
