The Pagan Month of September
can be found in its entirety Here. For more detailed entries, please visit the full calendar.

September acquired its name as the seventh month of the old Roman calendar. Pomona, patroness of fruit and fruit-trees, was tutelary goddess of this month in which autumn begins.

September was Meán Fómhair in Ireland or an t-Sultainn, the fat time. All these names refer to the ripening harvest. The September moon is gealach an abachaidh, moon of ripening. Haligmonath, "holy month," was the month of September among the Anglo-Saxons. The Franks called this month Witumanoth, "wood month," for this when the majority of wood was gathered for the coming cold months. September is Shedding among the Asatru.

The first Full Moon is called the Fruit or Grain Moon, a name it shares with August. It shares the name Harvest Moon with October and Sturgeon Moon with August. It has been called the Singing, Wine Moon, and the Moon When Deer Paw the Earth.

Libra takes over from Virgo around September 23rd. Those born this month have the aster for their birth flower. The stone for Virgo and those born in September is the sapphire. Chrysolite and sardonyx are also listed as stones for those born in Septmeber. Libra’s birthstone is opal or tourmaline, and Libra is also linked to aquamarine, emerald, kunzite, moonstone, opal, peridot, and pink tourmaline. Amazonite, amber, carnelian, chrysocolla, citrine, and sapphire are other stones associated with Virgo

Humor: New Bartender
A new bar opened and everyone in town was talking about it because it had a robot- bartender. One fellow had to see this for himself, so in he went and sat down at the bar. Sure enough, there was a robot bartending.

The man ordered a drink. The robot returned with it and asked him what his IQ was. The man replied that he had an IQ of 150. With that, the robot began discussing nuclear physics, hydrogen power cells, and the current state of the global atmosphere. The fellow was impressed, but was curious what would happen it he didn’t claim to be quite as bright.

So, he left the bar and came right back in, sitting at the bar. Again, the robot asked him for his IQ. This time the guy told him it was 100. So the robot started discussing football, basketball, and the proper way to grill a steak. Wow, this is amazing! He thought, but still wanted to test the robot’s skills.

Thus, he left and returned one final time. This time he told the robot that his IQ was 50. The robot replied: "So, are you really going to vote for Bush?"

Article : Axioms of Magic: III Law of Synchronicity
by Candace

III Law of Synchronicity:
Synchronicity is a term invented by Jung to describe meaningful coincidence that cannot be described by the scientific law of cause and effect. They are events connected by pattern (meaning) rather than time. (see VIII: Law of Association) Some interpret this as an ongoing and developing dialogue between the perceiver and the consciousness of the universe. Two or more events happening at the same time are likely to have more in common than the merely temporal. This dialogue is overt to the degree the perceiver is receptive to (or aware of) it. There is no such thing as a mere coincidence.

Law of Unity Everything is linked, directly or indirectly, to everything else. Every phenomena in existence is linked directly or indirectly to every other one, past, present, or future. Any perceived separation between phenomena is based on fragmentary perception or understanding of the phenomena.

According to the Law of Synchronicity and its sub-law, the Law of Unity, no event is exclusive. Events are connected through a pattern (Tao), whether we can see the whole pattern or not. The Law incorporates the idea of cause and effect, but also takes into account outer and inner causes. Events may be interpreted as external or internal phenomena. It depends upon your point of view. The term of synchronicity (syn=with and chronos=time) was described by Jung as the concurrent appearance of connections between elements, of meaningfully related events, without a unique direct cause. Science does not quite understand these phenomena and the rational mind denies them.

It is only when we are in harmony with our(external)selves, that synchronic events acquire significance. In moments of synchronicity, everything is fluid; favorable people, actions, and objects may appear at exactly the right time and place. Examples include chance meetings, clairvoyant dreams, or accidental telepathy. These are simple synchronic events. Then there are cascade events, a succession of coincidences which may be hard to follow or explain. Many would consider these extraordinary chances of fate, mere coincidences or miracles, when actually they illustrate the profound resonance between personal reality and the mysterious forces of the nominal universe. It is only our ego that prevents us from being in a state of synchronicity all the time.

The Law of Synchronicity is like the Chaos theory of magickal thought. Chaos theory describes complex motion and the dynamics of sensitive systems. Though chaotic systems may be mathematically determined, they are nearly impossible to predict. Behavior in chaotic systems is aperiodic. No variable describing the state of the system undergoes a regular repetition of values, yet a chaotic system can evolve in a way that appears to be smooth and ordered. “Chaos” refers to whether or not it is possible to make accurate long-term predictions of any system if the initial conditions are known to an infinite degree. Since this is next to impossible, no one hundred percent accurate prediction can be made. But Chaos theory, despite its name, is about finding the order within chaos to attempt a logical prediction.

Coincidence is an illusion. If we properly understood the world(s) we live in, coincidence would cease to exist, replaced by synchronicity - events which fell into place according to our wishes and needs. Is it possible to trace a hurricane in North American to the flutter of a butterfly’s wings in South America? Chaos theory says it is. The Law of Synchronicity says if it’s not possible, it can be if you can harmonize with the universe enough to make it so.

Craft of the Week: Application of the Law of Synchronicity

Synchronicity is evident when significant coincidences that are not related to each other occur. Suppose you are driving down the road, when suddenly a small animal jumps out and causes you to slow down. A few feet later at a crossroad, another car ignores a stop sign and speeds across the road right in front of you. If you had not slowed for the animal, you would have been struck by the other driver.

Synchronicity also applies to so-called wish-magic. Wishing something passionately, we create what we desire (often unconsciously). For instance, a brilliant mind has little to do with scientific discoveries. It is intuition that yields a solution, as Albert Einstein confessed.

Psychic techniques are also based on synchronicity. Divination is a form of synchronicity. The law of synchronicity and the law of cause and effect complement each other. Understanding these fundamental laws leads to spiritual leaps in evolution. Synchronicity connects the material world to the psychic world by symbols. These symbols are not always understood, though they appear from the collective subconscious.

A person who is spiritually elevated and wise will benefits by additional degrees of freedom in how s/he interfaces with reality. The law of synchronicity offers power based on creativity and knowledge. Anything is possible.

Humor : Stairway to Heaven
A blonde, a redhead and a brunette were on the stairway to heaven. God said, “There are 3,000 steps and I'll tell you a joke on each 1,000th step you reach. If you laugh you go to hell.”

So they started walking and reach to the first 1,000th step. God told a joke, the brunette laughed and went to hell.

Then on the 2,000th step God told a joke, the redhead laughed and went to hell.

On the 3,000th step God told a joke, but the blonde didn’t laugh and proceeded to the gate. Suddenly, she burst out laughing. God asked, “What are you laughing about?”

She replied, “I just got the first joke!”

(Cinnamomum zeylanicum, C cassia)

Folk Names: Laurus Cinnamomum, Sweet Wood; C cassia: Bastard Cinnamon, Canton Cassia, Cassia aromaticum, Cassia Bark, Cassia lignea, Chinese Cinnamon, World Tree (Himalayas)

Description: Cinnamon is an evergreen of the tropics and subtropics, growing best in almost pure sand. Originally found in Sri Lanka, it now also originates in India and throughout the tropics. It prefers constant rain and heat and a stable temperature. The erect trunk grows from twenty to thirty-three feet. Young branches are almost rectangular in sections. The stiff, leathery leaves reach about six inches. They are opposite and lanceolate-ovate, bright green on the top and pale or glaucescent below. Each is furrowed by three strong veins. The flowers are velvety at edges, small and yellowish-white with a tubular corolla and six wide lobes. They are found clustered in axillary and terminal panicles. The fruit is a berry with a single seed, which remains in the calyx and turns black when ripe. Cinnamon bark is harvested from both C zeylanicum and C cassia. The root bark smells of cinnamon, but taste like camphor. The leaves have a spicy smell and hot taste when bruised, and the fruit tastes similar to juniper berries.

Effects: strong
Planet: Sun, Uranus; C cassia: Mercury
Element: fire
Associated Deities: Venus, Aphrodite; C cassia: Heng-O (Chinese Lunar goddess)

Traditions:
Cinnamon was used in the holy anointing oil of the Tabernacle by Moses, and it was also used in the mummification process in Egypt. Cinnamon leaves were woven into wreaths and used to decorate Roman temples. It is said that at his wife’s funeral, Nero burnt a year’s worth of cinnamon, not only his own supply of cinnamon, but all of Rome’s as well.

In the Himalayas, cinnamon bestows the knowledge of eternal life. Cinnamon was used as an incense in ancient temples of China. Cassia in particular is associated with Heng-O. Heng-O is a Chinese lunar goddess. As a hare, she makes an elixir to become a toad. Both are lunar animals.

Cinnamon is associated with tourmaline.

Magic:
Cinnamon may be used as an amulet to increase good fortune. It also aids in healing, the acquisition of money, and boosting psychic powers. The protective power of sachets and infusions and spiritual vibrations are increased by cinnamon. It increases concentration, and Cassia in particular is said to increase wisdom and knowledge.

According to Medieval lore, cinnamon and/or cassia was used in love potions.

Known Combinations:
none

Medical Indications: (Caution: do not use in large amounts during pregnancy) Parts Used: bark
Cinnamon is an antifungal, especially good for yeast infections. It relieves diarrhea and nausea, warming the body and enhancing digestion (especially of fats), thus being helpful yo those attempting to lose weight. In China, it is used for excessive gasses in the stomach. The spice aids peripheral circulation of blood, uterine hemorrhaging, and diabetes. Adding a few drops to a carrier oil and massaging it into the joints will help relieve rheumatic ache.

Dioscorides, personal physician to Antony and Cleopatra, prescribed the bark in hot rum for colds. Cinnamon is still considered a remedy for congestion. A variation of his cure is used today in country cures. Ground cinnamon is mixed into hot milk, sometimes strengthened with whiskey, sweetened with honey, or lemon juice, honey and hot water.

Nutrition:
The taste of cinnamon is gentle, sweet, and musky. The dried bark is used in spiced punches, tea, cooked fruit, pickling liquids, sweet baked goods, some meat (grilling or casserole) and fish dishes, curries, stewed fruits, fruit salad, milk or steamed puddings. Cinnamon only gives up a small amount of oil when distilled. It is best bought in sticks, which cannot be adulterated, and grated as needed. The highest quality cinnamon comes from the thinnest bark, which has the strongest flavor and scent.

Mercantile Uses:
Aside from its use as a spice, cinnamon is primarily grown for it use in potpourris. It is cultivated in Ceylon, Malabar, Cochin-China, Sumatra, Brazil, Mauritius, India, and Jamaica. Cinnamon is cultivated by seed or cuttings. Shoots are cut back every two to three years, and the bark is left to dry in the sun for a day. The outer bark is peeled away and the inner bark naturally curls into tight sticks as it dries. Cassia is often substituted for Cinnamon without anyone being the wiser.

Poem : Eveline Beumkes

Clouds are flowing in the river, waves are flying in the sky.
Life is laughing in a pebble. Does a pebble ever die?

Flowers grow out of the garbage, such a miracle to see.
What seems dead and what seems dying makes for butterflies to be.

Life is laughing in a pebble, flowers bathe in morning dew.
Dust is dancing in my footsteps and I wonder who is who.

Clouds are flowing in the river, clouds are drifting in my tea,
One a never-ending journey, what a miracle to be!

Caledonite ranges in color from dark blue to blue green. It forms in masses and small prisms, as well as coatings for other minerals. Caledornite stimulates the navel, throat, and third- eye chakras. It can help activate intuition and psychic ability, and assists in learning to utilize them once they’ve been triggered. Astral projection also benefits from the use of caledonite. The stone also helps those engaged in public speaking to keep calm under pressure.

Humor : The Baptism
A father was in church with his children, including his five-year-old daughter. As was customary, he sat in the very front row so that the children could properly witness the service. During this particular service, the minister was performing the baptism of a tiny infant. The little five-year-old girl was taken by the whole procedure of pouring water over the infant's head. With a quizzical look on her face, the little girl turned to her father and whispered, "Daddy, why is he brainwashing that baby?"

If you owned it, you will find success in all your business undertakings. Playing a piano is an omen of success, however if it was out of tune or damaged, there will be disputes. To see children or relatives playing one indicates trouble within the family. A sweetheart playing a piano points to certain and happy marriage, but anyone else plying the piano suggests gossiping friends.

Selling a piano is a warning of loneliness and disappointment. Shifting or in any way moving a piano signifies solid achievement. Tuning one is a forecast of good news. An old fashioned piano suggests that you have neglected advice and opportunities in the past, and it would be best not to do so again.

A Pickaxe is a symbol of hard work, though it promises satisfying results if you persevere. A broken one denotes disaster in all your undertakings. An enemy is working to destroy you.

Minor troubles will easily be overcome with positive action if you dreamt of a Picket fence. Picketing for a cause predicts recognition for a job well done.

You will have good food if you were Picking different things. Good news is on its way if you picked up anyone, and picking up a child indicates an inheritance. Your relationship with relatives will be good if you picked flowers.

Owning a Pickup Truck is augury that enemies will fail to do you harm, and using one is an omen of important and beneficial events in the future. Be on guard against spiteful gossip however if others used one.

Pickles mean a mystery will be solved. You will be tempted by love if you made pickles, but buying them is a promise of financial gain. You will have no ambition if you ate pickles, though throwing them away means your troubles are at an end. Giving pickles to others is a sign of important and beneficial events to come, but receiving them is an omen of false friends. If you hungered for pickles, you will have many rivals and it would be good to guard your private affairs. Bad pickles predicts disappointing meetings and lovers’ quarrels.

A dream of a Pickpocket is an omen of loss and harassment through some enemy. If your pocket was picked, you are the object of some person’s envy and spite and may lose friends through his or her machinations. If you picked someone else’s pocket, you will embarrass a companion through course behavior.

A Picnic foretells danger through a secret. If it was a happy picnic, false friends are gossiping about you. Others enjoying a picnic predicts the failure of an enemy. You will have success and enjoy life if you attended a picnic, and if children were there, you will have luck and prosperity. A picnic with relatives means you will realize your high ambitions, but a picnic with relatives suggests doubtful success in love. Storms or any kind of interference denotes temporary setbacks in love or business.

Your hopes will meet with immediate success if you were given a picture. Joy is augured if you painted one. Having a collection of pictures suggests you will suffer through someone’s ingratitude, and if others had pictures, enemies are working toward your destruction.

Pictures of naked women is an omen of public disgrace, and naked men mean unhappiness in love. Any pleasing picture indicates a double-cross by one you trust. There is danger in love if you saw a collection of old pictures, and a collection of modern pictures is a warning to take care in your dealings. Destroying a picture means you will be pardoned for strenuous force in establishing your rights.

Pies in a pastry shop predict dissension within the family, but joy in the home is augured if you cooked a pie yourself. Making a pie to give to others promises good fortune after your present perils. If someone gave you a pie, friends are seeking your ruin. Good fortune lies ahead if you ate pie, and giving it to relatives to eat forecasts new interests and surroundings. Hard work awaits you if you gave children pie to eat. The meaning may be modified by what the pie contained.

You will cause someone great happiness if you dreamt of a Pier, and sailors upon a pier means happiness for you. If you were stood on one alone, it is a warning of trouble, while being on one with others also warns of danger ahead. Be cautious in your affairs if you saw others on a pier, though seeing a pier with workmen predicts good earnings. Striving to reach a pier and failing is a sign that you will lose whatever distinction you coveted most.

Pigs are an augury of good earnings. Thin pigs are a sign that you will be irritated by children. You will receive a legacy after the death of a relative if you saw many pigs. Joy will come if you bought pigs, though selling them is a warning that your friends will hate you. A friend may attempt to harm you if you dreamt of wild pigs. Pigs wallowing in mud mean hurtful associates will do you wrong.

Great success is foretold if you saw Pigeons. White pigeons are an omen of consolation, while gray ones predict devotion. Brown and white pigeons are good for business. Many pigeons presage charitable work. A marriage is imminent if you saw a pigeon’s roost. A pigeon flying is a sign of good news on its way which will bring favorable changes, and if it was walking on the ground, news is coming from far away. A pigeon landing on a ledge is a favorable sign for love. Pigeons fighting are a symbol of change in your own affairs. Feeding pigeons or watching them eat is a sign of some temporary financial problem. A pigeon shoot is a warning of low, debasing pleasures which will mar your character.
