Hippomancy

The Celts kept certain white horses in a grove. These horses were made to walk straight after the sacred car and auguries were drawn from their movements. The Germans also kept animals in their temples. During times of hostilities, these horses were watched closely. If they departed crossing the threshold with their left forefoot, the battle was called off. In other cultures, auguries were made based upon the neighing, stamping, or sweating of the horses.
