In Phrygian mythology, Agdistis was a hermaphrodite. It is considered a manifestation of Kybele. Dionysus tricked it into getting drunk and tied it to a tree. When it awoke, it's male sex was torn off as it tried to get free. The first almond tree grew from the blood. One the fruits impregnated the daughter of Sangarios, a river god, and she gave birth to Attis. Agdistis, now a female, fell in love with him. Attis later went mad and castrated himself beneath a pine tree.
