Aimon Kondi appears in the creation legend of the Arawaks of Guiana. He scoured the world with fire from which Marerewana and his followers sought refuge in underground caverns. Like nearly all creation legends, there was also a Flood (which followed the fiery devastation). Aimon Kondi is sometimes equated with Makonaima, the father of Sigu, the Arawak equivalent of Noah. When the Floods came, Sigu gathered all the animals into a cave and blocked it up. Then he climbed into a tree. Marerewana escaped with his followers in canoes.
