In Celtic mythology, Ainnle was the brother of Ardan and Naoise, all sons of Uisnech and Elva, daughter of Cathbhadh and Maga. The three brothers were cousins to Cu Chulainn. Ainnle and Ardan accompanied Naoise when he eloped with Deirdre to Scotland (Alba). Despite promises of safety, all three were killed at the hands of Conchobar mac Nessa in what is considered one of the most tragic stories in Celtic myth. Deirdre died of grief soon after.
