Airavata or Airabata is the Elephant of Indra. Kurma (tortoise), the avatar of Brahma or Vishnu, churned up the ocean in search of the treasures of the Vedic tribes lost during the Deluge. Along with the Elephant of Indra, many other treasures surfaced. These included Amrita (the ambrosia of the gods), Chandra (the moon), Dhanvantari (the physician of the gods), Dhanus (the bow of victory), Kaustubha (the Jewel of Vishnu), Lakshmi or Sri (a goddess of Luck and Plenty and wife of Vishnu), Parijata (the Tree of Knowledge), Rambha (the First of the Apsarases), Sankha (the Horn of Victory), Sura (the Goddess of Wine), Surabhi (the Cow of Plenty), Uccaihsravas (the First Horse), and Visha (a poison).
